  1. I'm fine with the DFA, since it cancels out the option. I never wanted him to vest, even if he was on his way to 40 HRs.
  2. I'm totally fine with betts up first. My beef is with Beni, especially vs LHPs. I'd bat Bogey 2nd FT, but at the very least vs LHPs. Pedey will likely never win back the 2 slot.
  3. I guess this answers my question and is why we DFA'd him. I'm fine with the move, despite what I just wrote.
  4. Nope. I wasn't even close to getting to the point of suggesting HRam be DFA'd. I thought he should be benched for a few days, start platooning vs LHPs, and if he starts hitting maybe return to his near FT role as a DH (without vesting). That's been my position, and 18 bad games in a row did not change my mind. Vs LHPs: .854 HRam .721 Moreland .649 Devers .529 Beni .426 Nunez .237 Swihart .225 JBJ Our team is .662 vs LHPs as a whole. getting rid of one of our best hitters vs LHPs, slump not with standing, would not have been my choice. Now, if it keeps us from having to pay his option next year, my mind could easily be changed. I've yet to hear anything definitive about that. Nobody can say we didn't give him a chance. He only has himself to blame.
  5. True. I was late on the HRam news.
  6. That's what I find shocking. They batted him 2nd last night. He's good enough to not demote to 9th or bench, then they DFA him.
  7. Shocking. All so Swihart can keep not playing.
  8. Leon is one of our hottest hitters and has a history of having hot spells every few years. maybe this is one. Vaz needs to get his act together on defense to keep playing. I'm not worried about his offense. (I doubt he stays under .625 the rest of the way.)
  9. I've mentioned keeping an eye on Beni vs LHPs. He's at .529 right now with less than 50 PAs this year. I'd give him a little longer, but an HRam-Beni platoon might make sense as soon as right now. JD plays LF vs LHPs. JD plays DH vs RHPs. This assumes JBJ plays FT, but once Pedey returns, Nunez could be plugged into the OF mix.
  10. All this based on just an 18 game sample size? I realize the history goes back beyond 18 games, but the guy was at .874 at the end of April and carried us with many key hits and RBIs early on. I'm all for benching him right now, but cutting the cord is way too harsh. He's in shape. He looks healthy. Maybe this is just a horrib;e slump that he'll break out of. Batting him 2nd or 3rd is near insanity.
  11. I'm not for releasing HRam, yet. He may still have a hot month or two in him. I'd start by giving him a rest, ease him back in by playing him ve lefties, only, then, if he's looking better, maybe give him one more somewhat long look, depending on how Moreland & JBJ are doing. If they are both hitting, mayeb he never gets another long look.
  12. Benching HRam is what's best for the team. It's not 'artificial". It's not about the vesting option. He never earned the right to be a FT starter out of ST'ing to begin with. He started out hot and got some big RBIs, so at that point playing him was the right thing to do, but one hot month was not enough to earn him any more tome to "work it out". His OPS+ was 89 and 93 in 2 of his previous 3 seasons. Nothing about that hints at earning anything, injury excuses and all. Plus, we bat him 3rd or even 2nd as he slumps into oblivion.
  13. I'd certainly be worried about the last 2-3 years, but getting the first 7-8 years of mostly prime or near prime years would pay for the last years.
  14. I thought you always judged guys on the tiniest of sample sizes. Leon is oneof our hottest hitters.
  15. I've always hoped they'd give Swihart a legitmate chance, even if just at DH as we bench HRam. I've said he's never proven he can hit at the MLb level, but I've never said I felt he can't. I was all for changing his position long before we did based on my hopes he can hit well enough to play somewhere else. That's actually saying a lot, since you have to hit better to play OF or 1B. My fall back was that he'd probably be a good utility player with the added value of being a 3rd catcher which would aallow us to PH for Vaz & Leon more often, but apparently Cora & DD don't trust him behind theplate in any close game. It's his defense at catcher I have a beef with. It would not surprise me, if he hits elsewhere. I'm not for trading him for that reason. I've said I'd DL Nunez, but if we never are going to give Swihart a chance, then it is a wasted roster spot. I'll agree to this: if Swihart gets traded and catches for another team at a decent level on defense, I'll "figuratively" use my quarter Irish foot to kick your Irish ass.
  16. I'd still pay him to age 38 (not as much as 26-35). He seems like the type that will age well.
  17. This is supposed to be a "realistic" thread.
  18. Hanley never earned the right top play FT this season. Moreland's numbers vs RHPs were very comparable, and his much better defense certainly tips the balance to equal or in Moreland's favor. Now that Moreland is bashing the ball, HRam deserves to ride the bench, at least vs righties. Now, an argument can be made to play HRam over JBJ, but that plan severely weakens our defense, and HRam has not been hitting better than JBJ recently: Last 28 days: .582 HRam (.253 OBP) .393 JBJ (.229 OBP) Last 14 days: .590 JBJ (.310) .396 HRam (.182) Last 7 days: .753 JBJ (.353) .059 HRam (.059) Sit his ass on the bench, because he deserves it. Saving money would be the bonus.
  19. Bottom of the order got 4 of our 5 hits.
  20. 13 Ks 3 Hits If Price can keep himself away from the "tingles", we look pretty damn sharp.
  21. Rangers up on Yanks by 2 now.
  22. 1) It's DD's call with input from Cora. 2) It's not confirmed. 3) I thought you'd be happy we kept your guy Swihart and sent down the guy you've been bashing almost as much as "Fat Sandy". 4) Sending JBJ down will likely just be temporary, assuming the rumor is true. 5) My guess is, we DL Nunez or Swihart and postpone the decision for at least 10 more days.
  23. I'd probably go to $300M/12 (maybe 11).
  24. Giving him a 10 year deal now puts almost all of the years within a reasonable age frame. He'd be 35 to start his last season of the extension. He could still be great at age 33-35. It's not like the Pujols deal that goes to age 41 with personal services payments going on for another 10 years afterwards..
