  1. Sox numbers pro-rated to 162 games; .341 50 103 Betts .327 50 135 JDM .285 26 107 Beni .278 29 107 Bogey .285 26 98 Moreland .251 28 92 Devers .255 18 74 Leon .200 13 50 JBJ .250 11 43 Nunez .221 8 34 Vaz
  2. This might fall under the "don't ask- don't tell" policy.
  3. Groome was rated pretty highly before the injury, despite not putting up great numbers when he was healthy. You claimed he has NO VALUE now, so I can only assume it was because of the injury. Look, I never said Groome had high value, especially after the injury, but you and I both know, every team would take him into their system for free, which is basically what value you assigned to him. Yes, it was a veiled dig at you. Even when I called you out for your "no value" statement, you never clarified it. Are you still saying he has absolutely no value at all? BTW, Groome reaches rule 5 in December of 2020, so there is ample time for him to return to strength and earn his way on the roster, or not. http://soxprospects.com/rule5.htm
  4. So, Groome had no value before the injury? I'm getting confused by all the goalpost moving.
  5. Sox OPS since last 14 days: 1.349 Leon 1.250 Pearce 1.094 JD 1.057 Betts 1.015 Devers .889 Moreland .851 JBJ .804 Holt .748 Bogey .739 Vaz .733 Nunez .591 Beni .400 Swihart Small samples size but very impressive. We have 8 players over 1.091 over the last 7 days: Leon, Devers, Pearce, Betts, Vaz, Holt, JD & JBJ. Bogey is at .812.
  6. What's the OPS of JBJ, Vaz & Leon, since Natick called for their demotion or DFA?
  7. Then , according to some, he has no value (like Groome).
  8. Maybe, instead of signing pitchers until the cows come home, we should just steal the ray's pitcher development people away from their organization by paying them what we pay Castillo. Money better spent.
  9. 2018 AL Leaders in Base Running 4.5 J Ramirez 3.8 Merrifield 3.7 Rosario 3.6 gardner 3.6 Beni 3.5 Gordon 3.3 DeShields 3.2 Devers 3.1 Pillar 3.1 JBJ 2.8 Trout 2.8 Altuve 2.8 Betts 4 in the top 12 is pretty awesome.
  10. No, you can't. Here's how fangraphs values base running by Sox players this year: +3.6 Beni +3.2 Devers +3.1 JBJ +2.8 Betts +0.9 Bogey -0.3 Leon -1.1 Vaz -1.5 JD -1.5 Holt -2.5 Moreland -5.0 Nunez Since 2016 (More games played for the Sox adds to the total.) 22.7 Betts 15.1 Bogey 13.2 JBJ 5.9 beni 3.4 Devers -0.7 Holt -1.5 JD -4.5 Vaz -5.0Moreland -5.2 Leon -5.4 Nunez -9.0 Pedey
  11. I don't think taking away 40 hits over "the average" CF'er is a stretch. True, many CF'ers "take some hits away every year. Some take more away than they give up.
  12. The Rays and A's have largely "over performed" over the years. Managers have come and gone, and the Rays even has a shake-up at the GM position, but they just keep surprising.
  13. I showed up outside the stadium opening day, the year we started the year with the closer by committee plan. I got great seats for super cheap. I enjoyed the atmosphere. I was driving to my sisters in Chapel Hill, NC after the game, so I left in the middle of the ninth inning- to beat traffic! I got seriously depressed listening to the pen meltdown on the radio heading out of TB. Some memories would be better forgotten, or as Lowell George would sing, "So I light another cigarette and try to remember to forget."
  14. Maybe Cashman can find the next Sonny Gray this deadline.
  15. I thought the same exact thing. After the ball got in his glove, he kind of hunched his shoulder inward to lessen the impact of his back against the wall. He is truly a marvel out there on defense. I hope people are realizing that it is possible for a great defender to take a hit (some doubles, triple and even HRs) away from the opponents maybe once every 2-3 games. It seems like JBJ does it nearly every game with sometimes multiple take-aways per game! I'm thinking over 150 games, JBJ might take away 60 singles, 12 doubles, 2 triples and 1 HR. That's 94 total bases over 150 games. Even if it's more like 75 total bases per 150, think how much that makes up for long, poor stretches on offense. If you added 50 singles, 11 dbls and 1 HR to his offensive line. Even adding half of that would make him one of the best offensive players in MLB. Add just 40 hits (30 singles, 8 dbls, 1 trpl, 1 HR) to last year's numbers and we have this... .329 BA .397 OBP .512 SLG .909 OPS Nobody would be complaining, except maybe natick.
  16. More than JB's has gone up since Natick called for JBJ to be sent down to AAA.
  17. Agreed, but once we bring him up, there's no putting the genie back in the bottle. His salary would have a major impact for 2 more years after this one. It just cannot happen.
  18. I wouldn't do it. The gain at SP'er barely outweighs the loss on offense, but the years of control kill the suggestion, for me. I'm still holding onto a sliver of hope we'll be somewhat competitive after 2019. This trade would kill all hope. We'd not only lose Beni's prime years (after 2019), but we'd have draft penalties that would affect us even longer than that. If we did make the trade, we'd probably use Pearce & JD in LF and have Holt/Nunez as back-ups. I doubt we'd bring Castillo up, since his contract would hurt us for the next 2 years after this all-out season. IMO, we really should just stop talking about bringing Castillo up, unless he gets to an 1.150+ OPS at AAA, and someone gets hurt.
  19. I've been there, too, and I didn't think it was as awful as everyone says/thinks it is.
  20. If it was all about the park, how do we explain this? TBR Batting OPS Home: .718 Away: .697 Runs/gm Home: 4.05 Away: 3.77 Could it just be they built their team for their park much like the Yanks and Sox have done?
  21. Don't look now, but TB is now at .500! Wow! They've won 8 of their last 10, all vs NYY, HOU & WSH,
  22. So... Trade Kelly for a prospect. Trade Barnes for a prospect. Trade Hembree for a prospect. Trade three prospects for a couple of non stooges. Kimbrel Non stooge Non stooge Buttrey Workman Velazquez Scott/Poyner/Walden Send out for the ring sizes.
  23. We've found it very difficult to make very close friends here in Texas. My wife is from Mexico and has friends from work but nothing really close or special. We've become very close friends to the parents of our daughter's boyfriend, which is a blessing. Our daughter and her boyfriend started dating in 7th grade, first love for both, and are about to finish up at A & M next year. Wow, right? I like it here in Texas, but I'd prefer to live in a New England (Maine) with 4 seasons of summer.
  24. OPS Update 1.110 Betts 1.033 JD .892 Moreland .886 Pearce .877 Beni .840 Bogey .795 Holt .741 Devers .706 Leon .637 Nunez .618 JBJ .571 Vaz .399 Swihart
  25. Every team needs guys like Pearce, Reed & Nunez '17. DD does seem to excel in this area.
