  1. Well said, Max. I'm very happy in what I've seen so far this year. We seem to have more energy and desire. We never give up. We have good pitching, hitting, running and defense. Maybe we won't ebnd up #1 in any category, but we'll be near the top in all.
  2. The biggest reason our farm sucks is because we called up Devers and Beni early and traded away about 15 guys that at some point were in our top 20 prospects. It's not because of poor drafting, except for pitchers. (Even the pitchers we drafted or signed as IFAs helped bring us back a lot in trade.) How high would our farm system be, if we had Beni, Devers, Moncada, Kopech, Espinoza, Basabe, Allen, Asuaje, plus others including Groome & Co.
  3. I wish every Sox player would struggle the recent Devers.
  4. There were so many bargains in January and even February. If we truly did not have a big concern about going over the max line, I think we should have (would have?) gone over then and still left the option to make some deadline deals if anyone was injured or struggling. I'm still not convinced we will go over, and I've been going on the assumption we didn't want to. Maybe I've been wrong (not the first time). I do still think we might deal Pom to free up space, if he ever gets some value back. If we go over, I'm wondering about going over by $5-10M not $1-2M. At this point the difference is not that much once the penalty is kicked in anyways.
  5. Right, my bad. Even more reason for Cashamn to kick up his 3 year window chances while still keeping the beyond looking much better than ours.
  6. I think Cashman is just posturing to try and feign disinterest. He'll come back when he realizes Degrom improves his chances more than anyone else on open market.
  7. Welcome to the jungle!
  8. Degrom has 2 playoff cycles under his contract. He's worth a lot. I wouldn't believe the Yankees' posturing. They will probably get him, because he is the best guy out there that would give them the strongest boost in chances at a ring for 2 years. They won't have to give up their whole future to get him, so I bet a deal gets done. I hope DD does not panic and try to match up with a bonehead big splash deal.
  9. Like we didn't know we'd be "in it" in January?
  10. Nunez starting to heat up. Positive vibrations.
  11. Get them talking by starting with Sanchez, Torres or Andujar. Maybe Torreyes, Frazier, Adams and Loaisiga would work.
  12. I get that, but I'm wondering why not? I thought the biggest worry was the draft penalties not the money(tax). Plus, there were lots of low cost bargains at the end of the FA signing period that could have been signed and not put us over by much AND not cost us prospects in trade. I'm okay with watching the budget. I don't blame Henry for not wanting to spend way too much. He's already blowing the next guy away, and that's not even counting Castillo! My point is, if we go out and trade for a $5M (after prorated) guy, we could have just signed a $5M guy last winter and had him all year.
  13. The Nats pen reminds me of DD's Detroit pens.
  14. Too bad the no DH rule kept ERod from going the rare 7 or 8 IP.
  15. Just checked in. Wow, only 84 pitches for ERod after 6 innings? Is that a typo in the box score?
  16. I meant last winter, while good, cheap free agents were signing left and right.
  17. I totally agree. He's the type of player I want, and I think he will age well. Having the ability to DH could really extend his career. He has to know that.
  18. Friendship and loyalty to your countrymen perhaps trumps team loyalty.
  19. I never said DD would not go over the max line. I actually said, if he is going to do so, why hasn't he already, and why not go way over, then?
  20. I'll say We'll have a heck of a PH'er brigade Today.
  21. EE 5 out of hos previous 6 seasons over .900 and all 6 over .886 with TOR After signing: .881 .776 He's already showing signs of decline, and Moreland is out performing him. .929>.886>.881>.776 He's owed almost $22M next year with a $5M buyout on $20M for 2020. Puig .772 this year is much better than JBJ, but one has to worry about his volatility. (He's a career .827 OPS guy.)
  22. Let's hope his luck changes.
  23. I'd take Stanton at $22M x 10 in a heart beat. That's like paying him $30M x 7 up to age 35 with 3 free years afterwards.
  24. If JD reaches 650+ PAs, leads the league in HRs and RBIs, maybe he'll realize playing some DH helped keep him healthy and fresh and strong. It's hard to figure out what the market will be like when his opt out comes up, but he will be a couple years older. That fact may cut into some of the financial gains he could expect to get by being a FA again.
