  1. Nice reply. Thanks. I've never claimed Ben was flawless (not that you are saying I have). He made some very bad signings and non signings. He blew the Lester negotiations with the low ball initial offer or the act of not immediately following up the low ball offer with something more substantial. To me, just one change to what Ben did might have radically changed his grade: had he signed Lester (or Scherzer) instead of HRam & Pablo, his history with us would be looked at much more nicely. Also, I didn't mean to sound like I was blaming Henry and top management for not allowing Ben to sign a 30+ pitcher long term. To me, Henry has to be totally blameless in anything. Without him, we have no rings.
  2. Then, maybe he goes to AA soon.
  3. Maybe since Holt looks to be in much better physical condition, strength wise, he won't peter out this year. Maybe Nunez's knee will improve and he'll have a second half like last year. Maybe, maybe... (I agree, a pen arm is a higher priority than 2B.)
  4. Well, with a guy who only has 2.5 months of team control left and some will be for rehabbing, I'm not sure the high or low stock point is as strong as usual.
  5. The thing is, for starting pitchers, many times you are just looking at one game per season in the post season, especially, if they had a bad game. It's not like a whole month. It might be like saying, Joe Smoe has pitched terribly every July 5th to 15th, so it would be stupid to start him tonight.
  6. If I tried to tell you I think player A is going to have a bad game tonight, because he has stunk for last 10-15 games, you might think, "okay with that," but if I told you he has stunk every July 12th for the last 10-15 seasons, you'd probably think, "what the hell?"
  7. Think of it this way: the O's are out of it this year but hope they can compete in years to come. Trading 2 months of Machado does nothing to hurt their odds this year. Their chances are already zero. My trading Machado to NYY, they not only strengthen their long term future- they weaken NY's by taking some of their best young talent away.
  8. How good can this team be? This good is my response.
  9. Great post, as always, but my guess is every good GM has had times they were not able to convince ownership of something they really wanted. While you can't believe everything you read, it was widely stated that ownership did not want to sign any 30 year old pitcher to a long term deal. That might have also been why Ben passed on Scherzer to sign HRam and Pablo. The change in ownership philosophy, if indeed it was a change, that allowed DD to sign Price should be a factor when comparing recent Sox GMs.
  10. See. I'm not so rigid as many might think I am.
  11. Pom has very little time to build trade value, but he could be a waiver wire trade guy, if he gets his act together in time. The thing is, if he gets his act together, we might need him.
  12. It still amazes me this needs to be repeated so often. Small sample sizes are one thing, but when they are scattered over multiple seasons, their significance should be even more minimized.
  13. My guess is they'd have moved him to AA, but Chavis and Ockimey are getting all the time at the corner IF positions.
  14. As bad as the Sox pitching prospects have beenas far back as Rheo's last few years, other GMs sure have fallen in love with many of them. Kelly was a big piece in geting us AGon (AGon enabled the Dodger dump trade to happen.) Kopech helped us get Sale. Espinoza got us Pom Logan Allen helped towards Kimbrel. Nogasek helped on A Reed Frank Montas, J Aro, Ranaudo, Alex Wilson, Pennington and others.
  15. I still think the Dodger dump trade was one of the Red Sox alltime best trades, and yet it seems forgotten by those who just see the bad in Ben. (Note" there was a lot of bad to harp on, granted.)
  16. Another great win. Bogey's gonna be over .900 soon.
  17. Did I happen to mention how happy I am we have... Chris Freakin' Sale! He's the only pitcher in MLB to ever have 5 straight games with 11+ Ks and just 1 BB in all 5 starts.
  18. I've always felt like one huge bat in a line-up can help others do better, but I was never one to think it makes a major impact. Now, I'm questioning my own philosophy on that one. Cora has helped. Overall health has helped as many players were playing hurt last year. To me, I think adding JD has made the biggest difference.
  19. It's not so much what he ends up at- just hit .250 the rest of the way and into October
  20. Some day our luck will run out, but let's enjoy it while we can.
