  1. He failed last night's audition, but I get a sneaky feeling he will get more chances.
  2. $30M would allow us to obtain other (maybe younger and more reliable) talent.
  3. We don't have as many bone-headed plays as last year, either. I blame Cora for that!
  4. Offense: 1st in MLB in runs scored (by almost 50 runs) Defense: 1st in the AL in UZR/150 (.5 better than CLE and almost double or better any other AL team) Starting Pitchers: 3rd in MLB in ERA- (83 with CLE at 78 and Hou at 79 only one can face us.) Relief Pitching: 3rd in AL in xFIP- (93 with Hou at 77 & NYY at 80) SBs: 2nd in AL with 112 (CLE at 121 is 1st, Hou is 21st, NYY is 24th & OAK is 30th Granted, I cherry-picked some stats. We are not good on DRS or some base running metrics, but we are a nicely balanced team.
  5. At his age, recent history of fickleness and contract cost, I'd be happy with opting out. I think the Yanks would pay him $170/6. (I'm not sure who else is out there, but the Yanks getting a top lefty is probably a high priority.)
  6. 112 SB 30 CS 79% I believe that is our highest SB% evaaah!
  7. Right now Workman>Kelley. Brasier> Kelly Hembree> Kelly Poyner > Kelly Thornburg> Kelly Wright> Kelly Eovaldi> Kelly Johnson> Kelly Velazquez> Kelly Injured Barnes> Kelly Maybe even Cuevas over Kelly With some of these guys, the differential is pretty small, so he still has a slim chance at turning it around and making the playoff roster. Lucky we can pitch whoever we want for playoff auditions.
  8. They will have a lot to spend over the next 2 winters. As great as we look this year, it might be now or never time.
  9. fangraphs has us ranked below average in their team running metric.
  10. Not counting tonight with Vaz 1 for 3 and Swi 0 for 3 with a BB. Catcher OPS: Last 170 PAs .582 Swihart .563 Vaz .494 Leon Last 120 PAs .666 Vaz .660 Swihart .364 Leon Last 90 PAs .754 Swihart .717 Vaz .366 Leon Last 60 PAs .608 Swihart .587 Vaz .250 Leon Last 30 PAs .597 Swihart .419 Vaz .194 Leon (yes, OPS not BA)
  11. Game 1: Sale 6/Wright 2/ Kimbel 1 Game 2: Price 7/ Brasier 1/ Kimbrel 1 Day off Game 3: Porcello 7/ Brasier 1/ Kimbrel 1 Game 4: ERod 6/ Wright 3 Day off Game 5: Sale 7/ Brasier 1/ Kimbrel 1 We might get by with just 7 pitchers, if all goes well.
  12. What's real is that we are the best Sox team in decades. What's real is we will have home field and should beat anyone we face. Yes, the playoffs are largely a crap shoot, but it's always better to be on top.
  13. I think this might be the first time we lead the league in SBs since the 1930's, if we keep going like this...
  14. Home field is ours.
  15. David Price has an opt-out clause in his seven-year, $217MM contract following the season, but the left-hander’s recent comments to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com strongly suggest he’ll remain with the Red Sox. Asked if he would consider opting out because of his recent stretch of dominance, Price bluntly replied: “Why would I leave here to go to a team that’s not as good as this team? I came here to win.” Of course, it’s never seemed likely that the 33-year-old Price would opt out of the remaining $127MM on his deal (as explored here last week), but those comments make that outcome seem all the more certain. Over his past 128 2/3 innings (including tonight’s start), Price has a 2.94 ERA with a 137-to-27 K/BB ratio. Nearly 20 percent of the 42 runs he’s allowed in that 21-start stretch came in one outing; excluding that hiccup, he’s been a brilliant complement to Chris Sale atop the Boston rotation, creating a formidable one-two punch for rookie manager Alex Cora.
  16. MLb says "day-to-day".... same (right) knee.
  17. I'd think hard about putting at #3.
  18. He's a very good base runner- not that Bogey is bad. He also has Betts up after him.
  19. I seriously doubt Phillips has any chance, unless someone gets hurt.
  20. We could start Nunez, PH Devers and then bring Lin in for D later.
  21. What's up with that? He's been negative at 3B his whole career, but is +10.0 UZR/150 this year, even though he's been a little hobbled.
  22. Since Leon does much better with starters, I'm not overly concerned about bringing in Swihart with the pen, but it is a concern. Vaz is pretty good with pitchers too. PH'ing for our weak catchers once per game is almost always a good idea when the game is close. The secong time is sketchy. I think it's only happened once this year, but how many times are we going to sub for our 3Bman in a single game?
  23. I doubt it, but we should need either at those positions, unless someone (the last sub) gets hurt in the game.
