  1. The biggest drawback to using 3 catchers in a game is having Swihart behind the plate. The good thing is, he seems to do pretty good with out pen, which is when he might be used as a catcher.
  2. I wonder why I never thought of carrying 3 catchers for the playoffs!
  3. great points, and those two trades were the headliners, but trading all of those prospects PLUS the ones traded you did not mention was a bit over the top, in terms of sheer quantity given up over such a short time span. The Pom and Thornburg trades seemed like overpays at the time. (I actually liked the Sale & Thornburg trades, because I had given up on Shaw and have always loved Sale.) I wouldn't have made all those deals, but I have always said, I love the team DD built, and I like the fact that he created a 3-4 year window and not a 1-2 year grasp for a ring. I thank him for that. If we win a ring, I'll be okay with every trade and signing he and Ben made. Just win, baby!
  4. Rick's let up 4 HRs in his last 3 starts, but the opponents have a .190 BA (.266 OBP) against him in those games. It always seems to be about the HRs (and timing of the HRs) that Porcello has to worry about.
  5. I had Holt in just about every trade suggestion I made. I guess my hopes for a Pedey return and a healthy Nunez out of the gate clouded my judgement. I also did not expect a .700 plus OPS. He's been a key piece in this year's team. He was doing better than Nunez, but we kept playing Nunez more-- not a peep from Brock. He's a true team player who always gives is all. I'm glad we kept him, but I can't promise he won't be in some of my trade suggestions this winter.
  6. If we signed LeMahieu, it would be because Pedey is done. We could then trade Nunez or Holt, but my thought was that we'd use Devers at DH some and maybe some 1B, which would give Nunez a lot of time at 3B and less at 2B. Signing Grandal to do some catching and play some 1B, assuming we don't keep Pearce might work. Too bad he hits righties better than lefties, so he's not a good platoon with Moreland. I guess we'd then trade a catcher.
  7. True, but we have gotten quite a bit of talent by trading pitching prospects like Kelly, Kopech, Espinoza and Logan Allen.
  8. Updated Sox OPS 1.054 Betts 1.026 JD M .917 Pearce .878 Bogey .835 Beni .766 Moreland .723 Holt .710 JBJ .710 Devers .707 Kinsler .674 Nunez .573 Swihart .551 Vaz .527 Swihart
  9. Let's say we win it all this fall and look to cut some salary next year while still taking a stab at a back-to-back. Let everyone walk... Kimbrel Kinsler Pomeranz Kelly Eovaldi Phillips Go light, but take a decent stab at some upside... Sign: RP: Cody Allen (4.10 ERA/1.39 WHIP this year, but 2.59/1.13 in previous 5 yrs) 2B: DJ LeMahieu (.348 3 yrs ago, but can field well and hit near .780) 1B/OF/DH: Bring Pearce back. Let it ride....
  10. Bogey Career OPS: .770 Career Late & Close: .769 .841 this year .725 last year .768 year before .871 year before .684 year before Hard to project anything from this...
  11. The Yanks did not suck earlier this year: they suck now, though.
  12. Truer words have never been spoken.
  13. JBJ is up to .710, now. He's up 208 since May 19th. He's been pretty consistently about .790 for 4 months in a row. (.794)
  14. They've revealed nobody consistently does much better in the clutch than otherwise. Year-to-year numbers yo-yo all the time.
  15. Me, too. Get all three for all I care. Let them work their way into a corner/
  16. I never disagreed with the point about "at some point you have to cash some in." I loved the Sale trade. My counter was to the added point of "that's the whole point of having them." If you said that's "one point of having them..." I'd have wholly agreed.
  17. Has anyone else noticed how successful we've been when PH'ing for our catchers, recently?
  18. The Yanks can afford to sign Kershaw, Machado and Harper and still be below the max line by letting Gardner go.
  19. We clinched already... back in early August. This magic number crap is voodoo clown s***.
  20. I give up. One post you say chips are only good for trading, and then another you talk of using the farm to plug holes.
  21. Hitting well and throwing well are skills. Hitting and throwing well "in the clutch" are not.
  22. jbj...jbj...jbj !
  23. Fantastic, but not a repeatable skill.
  24. We certainly got some nice returns (not named Thornburg) on many of our prospect trades, but where would we be without several years of relatively low-cost players like Betts, Beni, Bogey, JBJ and Devers? I'm not arguing against trading top prospects. I've suggested hundreds of trades myself. My point was a counter to the claim this cliam... "At some point you have to cash in some chips - that's the whole point of having them..."
  25. Some big names for this winter.... Bryce Harper Manny Machado C Kershaw J Donaldson C Kimbrel B Dozier Andrew Miller Z Britton D Keuchel DJ LeMahieu N Cruz, A Beltre, AJ Pollock, E Gatis, A Cabrera, E Andrus, W Ramos, McCutchen, C Blackmon
