  1. All pitchers feel shoulder pain during a season. I wouldn't be surprised, if the pain Sale felt was no worse than other seasons, in which he led the league in IP or was over 190 or 200. I was even arguing last year, in the thick of a tight race, we should rest Sale more than we did. It's no fluke his August and Sept numbers are down every single season he has ever pitched, except this year. Here's an eye-opener: Since his start on June 24th, Sale has started 9 games. We are 9-0 in those starts. He is 6-0. 48 IP (5.1 IP per start) 24 Hits 6 BBs 82 Ks A sick 0.19 ERA A sick .388 OPS against. The sickest part of it all? People complaining about how he's being primed for the playoffs.
  2. Exactly. I don't get all the high criticism of Cora. The guy has done a great job this year. I love how we handled Sale. It helped to have clinched on August 5th, but still...
  3. Besides the pen and maybe SP'er depth, our biggest needs seems to be... 1. 2B (Nunez, Holt, Lin, Hernandez, Quiroz) Kinsler & Phillips are FAs. 2. Catcher Offense (Leon, Vaz, Swihart) 3. 3B Defense (Devers/Nunez, Holt, Lin, Hernandez, Swihart/Dalbec, Chavis?)
  4. Unless we plan on staying near or going over the max penalty line year after year, we probably can't keep Kimbrel, Sale, JD, Betts and Bogey (JBJ). No Porcello, JBJ, HRam, Pablito, Pom, Kelly, Pearce, Kinsler, Eovaldi, ... $31M Price $31M Sale $31M Betts $25M Bogey $25M JDM $19M Kimbrel $14M Pedey $176M for just 7 players. Add $15M for player benefits. and we're over $190M with 33 more players to count, including some with rising arb costs, like ERod, Beni & Wright. (Vaz at $4.5)
  5. Fixed it. Do the Lucroy CERA/OPS against numbers I posted worry you? Others? Plus, his offense has declined steeply. .855 .716 .608
  6. The only reason 2B is not a problem now is because we have Kinsler. Kinsler is a free agent, so we will need somebody next year. It's back to square one.
  7. Trey Ball is going to play OF in the Fall league along with others going to that league listed here.... http://news.soxprospects.com/2018/09/trey-balls-outfield-conversion-to.html
  8. I'm thinking we might be lucky, if just one of Dalbec or Chavis become more than just role or platoon players. I'm not down on them, but neither are top 100 prospects. I kinda think Ockimey might have a better shot at being a plus ML player someday.
  9. We might hit $20M on just those two!
  10. I was talking about THE championship.
  11. I don't disagree. I have said, today, we should count on zero PAs from Pedey next year. I'm not giving up hope just yet, but we need to plan accordingly.
  12. Good summary. I think arb raises will be more than $20M. We have tons of them. Betts 2 of 3 Bogey 3 of 3 JBJ 3 of 4 ERod 2 of 4 Holt 3 of 3 Thornburg 3 of 3 Leon 3 of 4 Wright 2 of 3 Smith 2 of 3 Barnes 1 of 3 Hembree 1 of 3 Swihart 1 of 4
  13. It can be dangerous to sub for your starting catcher without a back-up, but it does happen, especially when it's the playoffs and a key PH moment comes up. I've been arguing for 3 catchers for weeks. It seems like more and more people are agreeing or considering it more and more.
  14. Can we please stop bashing Cora? He's a big reason we are where we are-- home field throughout and able to rest anyone we want. They are handling Sale the best way possible. He'll be ready to pitch 90-110 pitches by game 1.
  15. Yes, he is. FA Tracker (assuming we give Sale & Nunez their options)... After 2018: Kimbrel, Kinsler, Pearce, Eovaldi, Kelly, Pom, Phillips 2019: Sale, Martinez (opt out), Porcello, Bogey, Moreland, Nunez, Holt, Thornburg 2020: Betts, JBJ, Wright, Leon 2021: ERod, Vaz (option), Barnes, Hembree, Pedroia
  16. True, but I'd still rather have a healthy Pedey than Holt/Nunez/Hernandez next year.
  17. Of course, I meant if we let Kimbrel go, we'd spend the money on several RP'ers. I'm not for letting Kimbrel go and not doing anything with our pen needs. (BTW, Kimbrel has not been "flat out dominant" this year, and we're breaking winning records here.)
  18. We won't know much about Pedey until he gets out there, assuming he does. I mentioned maybe signing LeMahieu. We might try Phillips but he's going to be another year older. We'll find someone to add depth.
  19. Even if we don't keep Kimbrel, we should be fine, unless we win a ring this fall and look to reset the tax by dumping some salary.
  20. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope our championship this year brings you both some joy.
  21. Here's what I dug up on Lucroy: With Oakland CERA 2.79 with Phegley 3.95 with Lucroy 3.96 with Maxwell OPS against with specific pitchers: Manea .519 w Maxwell .544 w Phegley (just 25 PAs) .689 w Lucroy Mengden .558 w Maxwell .751 w Lucroy n/a w Phegley Jackson .656 w Phegley .684 w Lucroy Petit .495 w Maxwell .663 w Lucroy .796 w Phegley Cahill .582 w Phegley .663 w Lucroy .810 w Maxwell Montas .569 w Phegley (26 PAs) .823 w Lucroy Treinen .292 w Maxwell .433 w Lucroy .442 w Phegley Anderson .598 w Lucroy .780 w Phegley Pagan .296 w Phegley (21 PAs) .693 w Maxwell .844 w Lucroy Brewer Pitchers Career Gallardo 2.93 w Estrada 3.57 w Maldonado 3.60 w Kendall 3.80 w Chirinos 3.94 w Lucroy Lohse 3.66 Molina 4.03 Lucroy Peralta 3.99 Maldanado 4.43 Lucroy Garza 3.25 Navvaro 3.66 D Soto 4.10 Maldanado 4.75 Lucroy J Nelson 3.61 Lucroy 4.26 Pina 5.63 Maldanado .
  22. It's not about career CERA. CERA is not supposed to be used that way. I'm not saying these guys are good, bad or ugly with pitchers, I admit, I don't know, but before I go out and get one, I want to make sure he'll make our pitchers feel comfortable with him. With Lucroy, it's hard to do any research on CERA with him vs the other catcher on the 4 teams he's played with in the last 3 years. I'd be very happy to have Leon back next year, even if he hits .500. I'd rather spend our resources on our pen and maybe keeping Kinsler.
  23. Who did USC play yesterday?
  24. I know it's not happening. You should thank the Rays for helping you towards home field with the A's.
