  1. I'm looking more at the teams ahead of us than those behind us. All those teams have weak areas and have struggled at some point is the last month or two (or three.) People point to the Astros as a model organization, and rightfully so, but only COL has a higher chase rate, and ATH have a lower pitches seen per PA that they do, this year. I think HOU is 25th in runs scored.
  2. Yes, and if we didn't get Phillips and the money, we'd have darfted someone else besides Eyanson, who could have ended up better.
  3. 3 GB TOR 2.5 DET 1.0 NYY +1.5 HOU +3.5 SEA (last WC) +5.0 TEX (on the outside, now.) We have the 8th best record in all MLB: -0.5 LAD for 7th -1.0 NYY for 6th -1.5 CHC for 5th (The Sox are 1.5 games away from a top 5 team!)
  4. He's kinda the last option, unless we cycle back to I Campbell or Moran. Is Guerrero ready, soon?
  5. Good points, but the guy we might have gotten instead of Eyanson could end up outshining him.
  6. 30 MLB Teams: Rankings by batting slot: 9th: Sox are 2nd best 8th: 26th 7th: 4th 6th: 6th 5th: 5th Before tonight!
  7. Bottom 4, tonight: 3 for 7 w BB, HR, 3 runs, 2RBI Someone was saying one of our biggest weaknesses was the lower half of the line-up. (The same guy who said Narvaez was toast.) It's actually been one of our strengths, and not just tonight.
  8. Not many other options. Alonso at 1B? (Bellinger?) G Torres?
  9. I agree, but I do with we had played the A's earlier in the season when they really sucked.
  10. I was wondering if they limited his innings due to the idea of a possible promotion, soon.
  11. The A's are no longer a bad team, despite having the 3rd worst record in the AL. They are 20-15 in their last 35 games, 33-27 in last 60 games. They do much better on the road than home, so maybe that helps, this series.
  12. Line Drive % since 8/20 37.5 Yoshida 29.7 Romy 28.0 Narvaez 27.3 Lowe 24.2 Breggie 23.4 Story 22.0 Duran 17.6 Wong & Eaton 15.8 DHam 15.6 Roman 7.5% Rafaela 0.0% Refsnyder Since 8/27 37.5 DHam & Yoshida 28.1 Romy 25.9 Duran 25.0 Lowe & Narvaez 23.7 Bregman (26.2 last week is 5th)
  13. I never thought that being charming and personable was an important trait of a good GM/CBO. Just make good moves- significantly more than bad or neutral ones. Do the best with the situation and circumstances handed to you. Usually that will translate to wins, but sometimes the circumstances are so overwhelming, some slack is needed on the winning element of grading out a GM.
  14. Yes, making the playoffs is the first priority, especially after making it just once since 2018. That's once in 6 seasons, and this is season 7. That being said, we play NYY & TOR, and so we have a real say in our chances at winning the division and perhaps skipping the first round of playoffs. That is a worthy secondary goal. Of course, the goal is to take one game at a time and doing our best to win as many as we can, at least until that game result no longer matters, if ever.
  15. I think Holobetz and Phillips are tied. Holobetz has already shown he can do well. Phillips has more "unknown" upside.
  16. Didn't DSL make it and lose round one.
  17. If anybody can get 5, it might be Chapman with this catching crew.
  18. Godbout at .950 with GRE (A+.) Maybe he can give a boost to the bat side of the farm. Arias is at .800 with POR (20 ABs), Riemer .873, Romero .755 Maximus Martin is at .826 w GRE. Encarnacion .929 w SAL (A-) Anderson .924 (A-) GRod .872 and Winnay .827 FCL: Azocar 1.006, Jh Garcia .965 (promoted), Linarez .901, Fermin .831, J Rod .769 (Catcher) DSL: Brito 1.103, Darville 1.002, Andujar .974, Primera .895, Welch .863, Ogando .860, Alvarado .853, H Ramos .827, D Soto .799, H Rivas .777
  19. The next 9 games: BOS: 3 at ATH, (day off THU) 3 NYY (HUGE GAMES!) and 3 ATH NYY: (Day off MON) 3 v DET, 3 at BOS and 3 at MN TOR: (Day off MON) 3 v HOU, 3 BAL, 4 at TBR DET: (Day off MON) 3 at NYY, 3 at MIA, 3 v CLE HOU: (Day off MON) 3 at TOR, 3 at ATL, 3 v TEX (then 3 v SEA) SEA: 3 v STL, 4 v LAA, 3 at KCR (3 at SEA) Very telling week plus, coming up.
  20. bottom 4: 4 for 14 with 2 BB. 4 runs scored 3 RBI Good to see Story step up big, too.
  21. Not bad losing 3 out of 4 and still just 3.5 from the ALE lead! 3.0 behind DET for #2 in AL. 1.5 behind the damn Yankees. (Losing ground to them sucked!) up 1.0 on HOU. up 3.5 on SEA up 5.0 on WC (TEX) and 5.5 on KCR/6.0 CLE We have the 8th best record in MLB (+0.5 on SDP) -0.5 from LAD (7th)
  22. I'm sure other teams have examples like this, but we have our share, for sure.
