I disagree. When Swihart played LF for us, it was only because a deal for Beltran fell apart at the last minute. I think he has only kept him around as insurance and because he seems to have some upside potential only briefly seen several years ago. He may have also been trying to drive his trade value up, but for this long? That argument is light. I think Swihart gets traded or DFA'd at the last minute, in hopes nobody claims him. (My guess is he would be claimed. Look at some of the catchers still being recycled!)

MLBTR... Harper’s market is still “evolving,” as Heyman puts it in his latest tweet. The Phillies are still seen as the likeliest team to land Bryce Harper, though the outfielder has received several long-term deals with an average annual value of more than $30MM per season. There is no deal yet, though according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale (Twitter link), Bryce Harper “will ultimately receive” a larger contract than the ten-year, $300MM offer he received from the Nationals before free agency began. Rival general managers have been told that Manny Machado’s offer from the Padres is at least eight years/$240MM with deferred money, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale (Twitter links). Some other GMs, however, have been told that Machado has been offered $280MM. The dominoes may fall, soon!

Expand the 25 man to 27. Expand the 40 man to 44. Double minimum wage at the nest CBA. Start arbs two years earlier and begin free agency one year earlier.

It might take Swihart or Vaz a long time to build up to what Leon has established with them. Maybe it can happen much quicker than I think, then again, maybe it never happens. There's a reason Swihart has never caught Leon. There's a reason Sale has been caught by Leon in 49 games (2.42 ERA) to Vaz's 11 games (3.40). Maybe these numbers are insignificant, but I, for one, am not wanting to it put to a test. Vaz has caught Price more than Leon, and that switch doesn't scare me as much, but Leon does get more from Price: w Leon: 30 games (2.83) w Vaz: 47 games (4.32) w Swihart: 2 games (5.73) Only two games is telling as well. Certainly losing Leon's bat would almost certainly bring a plus on offense, but personally, I'd like to keep Vaz and Leon. I don't trust Leon for more than 80 games, let alone 100+, so trading Vaz would scare me more. I wouldn't be crushed, if we traded Leon, but I just don't see us getting something for him that would make up for the probable loss from Sale and Price.

We only need Leon with Sale and Price. That's 60-65 starts only.

IMO, that would be Vaz. I'm not onboard with trading Vaz or Leon.

I think the September roster expansion does allow for teams to rest players as they near the playoffs, but I agree that it gets out of hand. I'd like to see the roster expanded to 26 or 27 players and maybe the 40 man roster to 42 to 44. I could see allowing an expansion of 1 or 2 players depending on rosters being at 26 or 27 all year.

True, but in the Tampa area there are a lot of Sox fans (and Yank fans), but certainly them playing Miami and Atlanta would create a better rivalry.

Occasionally, you get a view of the CF'er and the batter in the same frame. I realize we're talking fraction of seconds in reaction time differentials between one player and another, but it seems like he gets an excellent jump on his first step both in terms of speed and as you pointed out, perfect (or near perfect) directional instincts.

No, I never said bringing the DH meant you had to make major changes, and to me, it's not for the "sake of change." Creating regional rivalries would be fantastic for baseball. Us playing Toronto 18 times a year means nothing to me. If we played the Mets, it would be much better. Adding rivalries would mean much more to other teams, and some low teams can use all the help they can get. KC vs STL TB vs MIA Oak vs SF SD vs LAA Tex vs HOU MN vs MIL MIL vs Cubs Cin vs CLE and DET Pit vs CLE & DET Then, the mega city rivalries: NYY v NYM LAD V LAA Cubs v CWS I get the hold tradition has, but this is the modern age. Build rivalries. Cut travels costs and time (Players would love less long flights.) It's not change for change sake. It's change for the better. To me, the advantages are clear as day.

MLBTR... The Red Sox are expected to trade a catcher – be it Christian Vazquez, Sandy Leon or Blake Swihart – before the season. If that happens, they’ll likely be left with minor league signing Juan Centeno as their No. 3 backstop. Manager Alex Cora said Saturday he’d be “comfortable” in that scenario, pointing out he’s familiar with the veteran Centeno from their time with the World Series-winning Houston organization in 2017, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. Centeno’s contract does not include an opt-out clause, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski confirmed to Smith, so the Red Sox aren’t in danger of losing him before the season. However, as Smith notes, if Boston adds Centeno to its 40-man roster at some point and then tries to send him to the minors, it’ll need to pass him through waivers because he’s out of options.

Yes, that's the normal interpretation, and every team has an ace, since every team has a best pitcher. Then, fans say, "We need an ace!" But, they already have one. They really just need a better ace. Fans have also been know to say, "We have 2 or 3 aces." They never say that, if they have 3 equally mediocre best pitchers on the team, so a certain objective criteria for better performance is implied.

"Ace" is hard term to define. Most fans call the best starter on their team their "ace." In this sense, one could argue there are 30 aces, but I'd argue a better #2 or even #3 on another team could and should replace the weaker "aces" in the top 30, but I'm okay with making a distinction between "ace" and "number ones". One could claim there are 10-20 "aces" in MLB and 30 "number ones" including the aces.
