  1. No, but second, yes- just because of PEDs.
  2. He actually does very well for most of each season. He just has horrible 3-5 week stretches that bring him down to about .720. 2017: .537 first 22 games .761 last 111 games (very respectable for 83% of season) 2018: .502 first 46 games .793 last 106 games (better than respectable for 70% of season) 2019: .409 first 31 games .828 last 115 games (Very good for 79% of season) Maybe this is why he has more value, but man-o-man, those few weeks kill us!
  3. I'm not sure I said it, and it really shouldn't matter, but when you look at history, it would seem unfair that Jete gets a unanimous vote, which is different from making it first ballot. He will make it first ballot. I wouldn't vote for him on any ballot, except maybe his last try.
  4. Apparently, JBJ has positive value- meaning someone would give something for JBJ without us having to pay a cent, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't see why he has so much higher value than other great defensive CF'er who don't hit very well getting much less on the open market. Take a guy like Jake Marisnick. He has about the same OPS as JBJ over the last 3 years, and he makes way less than JBJ. He was traded for scraps.
  5. As we all knew it would/should.
  6. Not first ballot, but yes on the second one. He barley played in the field and did not lose too many games on defense. His bat far out-weighed Jete's.
  7. They should have the check he got by selling it there. It's a story by itself.
  8. Not on the first ballot.
  9. I never said that. Being bad but not horrible might still allow you to get in. Or, if you are a great hitter (Jeter was not), it could outweigh being a really bad fielder. Jeter was a good hitter, a good runner and a horrible defender at an important position. It's close, but I say no- certainly on the first ballot, but it looks like I'm in a tiny minority on this case. How many players get in with a unanimous vote first ballot? Do you think Jeter deserves that?
  10. Well, my point was about 2020, and you mentioned him.
  11. He was ready when we needed him, at least.
  12. I totally agree, and while signing to a minor league deal can't hurt, I'd like us to sign healthier and more reliable pitchers.
  13. Bloom may not have liked Shaw, even if he had $4M to spend. I gotta think he'd have signed a few guys already, if he had a budget to work with.
  14. No action to back the words.
  15. What's not to love, but it won't be easy.
  16. I wouldn't mess with him, but he was a starter once.
  17. I doubt there's even a 50-50 chance we guess a trade like this right.
  18. D Hern was a starter for a while.
  19. The first inning often sets the tone of the game, too. I also think the mediocre pitchers who come in after the opener probably will do better without the pressure of starting and, as you pointed out, starting out against hitters that are not the 1-2-3 in the line-up.
  20. Agreed, and Myers does have some upside. He's likely to have a better season than Chavis at 1B in 2020.
  21. I think the Padres can get more than Chavis and Walden for Yates alone. I don't want Beni in CF, especially if we end up losing Betts in RF. I'd add to the deal to get Yates. I'd give Price, Chavis, Walden & Barnes (a gross overpay by the simulator) for Myers, Yates and Margot. Maybe, Price, Chavis & Barnes for Myers and Yates.
  22. That might be incentive enough, especially when the best alternative is to start Velazquez.
  23. Doesn't DHern throw just as hard in 1-2 innings later in the game, too?
  24. They don't need JBJ, even if we take Myers and Margot. This is better: Price (+$3M), Chavis & Walden for Myers, Margot & Yates I'm not sure SD would part with Yates for just this. More likely: Price & Chavis for Margot (CF for us after we trade JBJ elsewhere) and Myers (1B for us).
