Been an enjoyable game, so far.
Mookie is back! (Good time for it!)
Beni could have caught another one, but his fat legs weighed him down.
Good game by Cashner.
The pen needs to finish these guys off.
Team record in starts would cover that better than the pitcher's W-L record, but even that really penalizes pitchers who have poor run support and/or a pen that can't close the deal in low scoring, close games.
If having an .818 July OPS is "slumping", I'll take it! Dalbec is doing fine.
On Ockimey, I'm not sure I'd call .766 in his 90 games at AAA "nothing" this year. He also has 17 HRs and 32 XBHs in just 282 ABs. He was very raw when we got him, and the thought was he'd take longer than normal to develop. I'm not saying I have high hopes for him, but he has shown power in an era where power rules.
I'd have sent Travis down, kept Hernandez and gone with Holt and Vaz as 1B depth behind Moreland..
Looks like we will go with 13 pitchers the entire season. I'm not sure the last time the Sox did that.
I like ERA- and OPS Against.
I use WHIP a lot, because it's easier to find.
I'm not big on K/9 or xFIP, but the K/BB ratio is of better use for me.
IP is important for placing value on a pitcher but does not really help with determining who is better at getting someone out.
Yes. A pitcher can also go 4.2 IP of shut out ball and the next guy lets up 5 runs and gets the win.
It seems like these facts are easier to overlook than some flaws in the WAR metric.
Team record in a starter's starts is better than just the W-L record of the SP'er, but the stat is so flawed in it's not really a stat I think is very useful.
It was certainly worth it.
Soon, we pay the consequences, which is fine with me. I expected it all along. I just hope we make the lull short and not too bad, although real bad may help us draft well and do better in the extended future.
Most certainly the best game of the year for me to watch.
I'm hopeful this will be a spring board for us and the beginning of a rough stretch for the Spankees. We'll see, tomorrow. We have to break the mold of following up big wins with worse losses.
JBJ getting hot again would be a big plus. Bogey, Beni, Moreland, Chavis and just about everyone came through, but the performance from Porcello may be the best thing about tonight.
