  1. I've seen a lot of great plays by CF'ers on many teams while watching them against the Sox. I have no idea what they do in the other 144 to 159 games. Some guys I only see every 3 years, and then only for 3 games on TV. To me, JBJ looks like he's top 8 to 14. His 3 year ranking is 12th, so I have no problem thinking he's around 12th best. He may better, if you take away some intangibles but probably not top 3 or 4, IMO.
  2. No. Too expensive and old.
  3. Someone was saying we should extend him not too long ago.
  4. Teams have been known to improve as the year goes on, and WC teams have won rings, too, including us. I haven't seen signs of us being a strong contender, but it's not impossible. I haven't given up yet, but I do think we should plan to sell off a few pieces, if we flop in the next 10 days. While Henry has cut off major spending, it doesn't mean we can't trade for something very good right now. I admit, it doesn't look good, but we still have some very strong players and can turn it around.
  5. Updated SP'er ERA (Listed by most IP)-GS'd 4.05 Sale (118)-20 4.34 ERod (116)-20 5.61 Porcello (111)-20 3.61 Price (92)-18 6.95 Velazquez (22)-8 6.00 Eovaldi (21)-4 7.94 Weber (11)-3 1.13 Johnson (8)-2 9.82 J Smith (7)-2 9.00 Cashner (5)-1 9.00 DHern (3)-1
  6. Updated OPS numbers after the 17 run game: .967 Bogey (Steady Bogey) .947 Devers (Will he catch Bogey?) .887 Betts (Getting close to .900) .874 JD (Nice to see him have a big game) .859 Moreland (His .859 has barely been missed.) .841 Holt (Keeps coming through) .837 Vaz (Looking like this is for real.) .779 Chavis (Not a bad rookie year!) .765 Beni (Would be nice to get near .800) .735 JBJ (Maybe a sign of a second resurgence.) .582 Leon .Low PAs: .895 Marco .533 Travis .503 Pearce
  7. TB, CLE & TEX all lost, Oak won, so I guess there is hope... CLE & OAK tied for WC lead. TBR & BOS 2 games behind. CLE & OAK have easier schedules remaining, so we have our work cut out for us.
  8. Can we lay to rest the idea that our offense need tinkering with? We are going to have to sink or swim with our rotation, and I still think there is time to turn things around, but I keep waiting for that moment to arrive, and waiting, and waiting...
  9. This team keeps teasing us with false hopes. Our starters suck this year. The pen hasn't helped, but our starters were supposed to be a big strength. They've been a huge let down. No way I even offer Porcello a QO.
  10. I just hope the keep winning vs the Rays, Guardians and A's.
  11. There are literally dozens of pitchers I'd rank higher than Mo.
  12. "He is back..." He has sucked since being back- tiny sample size not withstanding.
  13. Leave it to Dan to drive the stake through Price's heart.
  14. What if we kept...? 6.10 Pomeranz 72.1 IP 88 H (17 HRs) 35 BB 84 K 5.87 Kimbrel 7.2 IP 6 H (2 HRs) 5 BB 12 K 5.29 J Kelly 34 IP 38 H (4 HRs) 15 BB 42 K
  15. I think he meant "Sell!" But I don't want to read to much into his complex post.
  16. Trading him would not be about the return. It would be about the reset. Any return would be gravy. We might even have to pay part of his salary to get any return at all.
  17. Nobody will pay him more, even if he is red hot from here on out. He's not an OF'er anymore. Last night proved that. Look what Big Papi got paid not too long ago, and he played 1B about as well as JD plays corner OF. I'd think sewriously about trading JD and re-setting the tax.
  18. What's also eye-opening is that we're only talking about 91 PA for Beni and 113 PAs for JD with RISP, and that your numbers neglect to point out that JD is being walked in 17% of those PAs. OBP with RISP .398 JD .342 Beni No doubt, JD should have more RBIs, but the OBP of the guys in front of him are not great. OBP by batting slot: 2019 1. .362 2. .391 3. .341 (including JD's .354 in about a third of the PAs at this slot, so much lower when he bats 4th.) 2018: 1. .418 2. .340 3. .353 (.379 by JD in almost half the PAs of this slot)
  19. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I love the simplicity of baseball. I love the intangibles in the game. I also love analyzing different aspects of the game and never feel like or expect others to see or enjoy the game the same way I do. I have OCD tendencies and wouldn't wish that on anyone.
  20. Is that stuff even listed in the papers anymore?
  21. The NYY & TBR stretch overlaps the trade deadline. We may have to make a choice before that stretch is over.
  22. I know! To think anyone can believe a guy that is great for one inning sixty to sixty-five times a year can ever be greater than guys who go 6-9 innings 30-40 times a year is an absurd joke. Now, if he wanted to argue that he was the best at getting a batter out, there might be room for debate. "Best ever" is not only off the table, it's not even in the dining room or the house, for that matter.
