  1. For what? The hundredth time?
  2. The Manny all the way up to his last year here. Puig can't carry Manny's jock- not even 2 feet.
  3. Exactly. We all know the Yanks were better than us this year. They won a lot of games despite all the injuries. We are happy they lost, because they are our hated rival, and now we don't have to hear any Yankee fans taunting us all winter long.
  4. Comparing Puig to Manny is disgusting. You lost me on that one. Manny worked his butt off. He was almost always the first one to the park and the last to leave. His work ethic was a model for every young player. Yes, he was a boy in a man's body. He made some of the same mistakes as Puig- like not running some balls out or mental blunders, but he was a beast who had a calm intensity that was a huge asset to the team. I see no need to pin our hopes on us being able to coach Puig into greatness. We have other things to focus on. Puig is on the decline.
  5. We don't win without Sale and Price. It's not about them having to be aces every game of the year. Yes, you need other pieces, but the Sox history of ring winning involves picking up a second ace. Pedro could not win by himself. We had to get Schilling. Schilling could not win by himself. We had to get Beckett. Lester could not win by himself. We had to get Lackey. Price could not win by himself. We had to get Sale.
  6. We will have 5-8 slots on the 40 man roster that are near useless, next year. I just don't think that the 40 man roster slot was any part of the equation. Wright will have TJ surgery and his team control ended after 2020. Case closed.
  7. When the last time those two teams won a ring? Yes, they win and have a strong farm, but they never win it all.
  8. You know what I love almost as much as just the fact that the Yankees lost? This whole "You can't win without a strong pen" thing took a big hit last night and in the 2019 playoffs. 1) Osuna blows the biggest save of his life. 2) Chapman blows the game. 3) The Nats make the World Series with the 22nd best pen by WAR. 4) The Astros make the WS with the 8th best pen by WAR. (Boston was 5th.) ERA- 3. HOU 84 8. BOS 91 30. WAS 126 WHIP 2. HOU 1.16 19. BOS 1.39 27. WAS 1.48 (awful!) K/BB 5. HOU 3.1 17. BOS 2.4 21. WAS 2.3 xFIP 1. HOU 4.06 10. BOS 4.43 29. WASH 5.03 (UGLY!) If the Nats win, will this mean the whole focus moves back to the rotation?
  9. Sevy was supposed to be "the face." The injury was unfortunate, and you guys had way more injuries beyond just him. I wouldn't get too down, considering all the missed time. That being said, you are right. You need an ace. If Sevy is also one next year, then that's the true model for building a ring-worthy team. You've been telling us to follow your model of rebuilding. I'm telling you to follow ours for ring winning. Two aces = rings. Pedro-Schilling Beckett- Schilling Lester- Lackey Sale- Price We never won with just one ace.
  10. He sets a poor example for young players, and we should have a lot of them in the next few years. The uptick in offense over JBJ is barely enough to offset everything else. Who has these OPS over the last 5 years? (I jumbled up the sequences.) Player A: 740, 758, 785, 820, 833 (.792 combined in 2304 PAs) Player B: 717, 726, 738, 832, 835 (.765 combined in 2229 PAs) Yes, player A is Puig, but he beats out JBJ by under 30 points. Just say No. We need to get younger, smarter, and going with a 29 year old distraction is not my idea of a rebuild.
  11. ...but, but, but, they had the all important pen!
  12. I never said he had no talent. I said he's a cancer, and he is.
  13. I don't cry fix often. The NBA is fixed. I have no doubt.
  14. The east team didn't matter, so yes, maybe they didn't fix that half. It's not like Milwaukee was going to generate more viewers.
  15. No, we could trade him.
  16. The 40 man roster will have plenty of space. Wright was and would not be taking a slot away from anyone special. It was about his impending TJ surgery.
  17. Only his first 6 weeks were awful in 2019.
  18. You don't read much, I assume.
  19. Even if JD decides to stay, we might be better off trading him, so it's not all about his choice.
  20. I'm thinking 2 years is not unrealistic. To me, it's all about JD & Betts.
  21. I could see Stasburg to NYY & Cole to LAD. All the more reason for the Sox to reset and trade Betts & JD this winter. Let the 3 teams burn themselves out in 2020.
  22. Re-signing or not, trading him is probably best. I love the guy. I'd give him $320/10 (counting 2020), but I doubt we'll go that high. Get something for him and JD. Get what we can for JBJ. Look to maybe trade some players that are FAs after 2021 at the 2020 deadline. Reset the tax. Draft well. Get back to finding some top international free agents. Build the farm but look to get back tp spending big after 2020 or 2021. Ring time in 2021 or 2022 (2023 at the latest).
  23. My guess is Cashman goes to the bank this winter. 2020 is probably the Yankees peak year in their window. They should go for broke. (Hopefully, they go broke and make some of the mistakes we made.)
  24. They deserve it: NFL Championships: 13 Green Bay 9 Chicago 8 NY Giants 6 New England, Pittsburgh 5 Washington, Dallas, San Fransisco 4 Cleveland, Balt/Indy, Philly, Detroit 3 Rams, Denver, Raiders 2 Cards, Ravens, Seattle, KC, NY Jets, TB, NO 0 Vikes, Bills, Bengals, Panthers, Falcons, Chargers, Titans, Jags, Texans 13 wins are more than the bottom 17 teams combined! It's also more than the 3rd and 4th place teams (NE 6+ Pitt 6) Winning 13 out of 18 trips to the final game is a .722 winning %. (4 wins or more only) .833 SF .750 Pitt .722 GB .667 DET .625 Dal .545 NE The Pats have had a very nice run, recently: 6 championships in an 18 years span. The 49'ers won 5 in 14 years. The Steelers won 4 in 6 years. The Lions won 3 in 6 years. The Browns made it to the final game in 6 straight years and 7 of 8 but won just 3. The Pack probably had the nicest dynasty by winning 5 in 7 years ('61-'67) and made it to the final game in 6 of 8 seasons ('60-'68). The Packers also dominated from 1929 to 1944, winning 6 in those 16 years (better than the Pats 6 in 18), and they made the final game in 9 of 18 years ('27-'44). Some more ancient history: from 1920 to 1946 (27 years) these 3 teams made the finals this many times: 15 Chi (7 wins) 11 NYG (3 wins) 9 GB (6 wins) 35 Total (16 wins) 65% of the finals' teams were these 3! 59% of the championships were these 3!
  25. I just screamed so loud I scared my dog! My wife said, "I thought you didn't like the Astros." I said, "I don't: I hate the Yanks!" Life is sweet here in Houston.
