  1. That often happens with false equivalencies.
  2. It appears DD & Henry were not.
  3. Beni in CF is an awful idea, even if just for a 1 year bridge to 2021. Beni in LF is bad enough (defensively).
  4. Couple this with the huge drop off from international FA signings, and we can see why our farm is ranked 30th.
  5. Plus, JBJ was a comp pick. We won't be getting those anymore. Other comp picks (Imagine what our teams would be like without these guys): Ellsbury Buchholz Lowrie D Bard Hagadone (part of VMart trade) Ranaudo Workman Barnes Swihart JBJ Johnson Light (traded for Abad) Kopech (part of Sale trade) Kopech was our last comp pick way back in 2014.
  6. This looks realistic. I might go a step further by trading JD for the best prospects or young ML talent I can find, even if I pay part of just his 2020 salary. (He will likely opt out after 2020, unless he gets hurt or falls off a cliff.) I'd hope we go back to spending in 2021, including making a solid offer to Betts. No FA returning. No JBJ or JD. Sign only FAs that look like they can help for the long run at a reasonable cost or 1 year bridge players to fill some gaps and keep us respectable for 2020. SP: Sale, ERod, Price, Eovaldi, D Hernandez, Chacin (Wright/Johnson/Velazquez/Weber/Shawaryn) RP: __FA__, Workman, Barnes, Hembree, Taylor, Walden (Failed SP'er/Brasier/Houck/Brewer/Lakins/Poyner/Reyes/Feltman/Bazardo) 1. Betts RF 2. Beni LF 3. Bogey SS 4. Devers 3B 5. Chavis 2B 6. Dalbec/Ockimey or Travis 1B/DH 7. Ockimey/ Travis 1B/DH or Chatham/Lin 2B 8. Vaz C 9. __FA__ CF
  7. I'm not ready to anoint Duran as our FT CF'er next year, but if we are resetting next year, it might be an option. I'd prefer to use the little budget space we might have with no JBJ on the roster to sign a cheap but great defensive CF'er. Maybe Travis, Duran or Lin can be our OF depth. I don't want JD in the OF, either, unless we are at a NL park.
  8. I've suggested Dalbec at 1B. I used to suggest him at 3B and Devers at 1B, but RD has stepped up his defense to the point where messing with him would be a mistake. I'm fine with giving Dalbec a chance at 1B, since 1B is wide open, however, notin makes a valid point. His defense at 3B would be wasted at 1B, and that value may be worth more to another team than ours. Assuming we get equal value back in trade, the theory of trading him to a team in need of a 3Bman for an equal value prospect that plays a position we need makes sense.
  9. He's a pure hitter. He's always been that. I wouldn't mess with a thing. Sometimes a great line-up needs a guy that doesn't fit the mold of the other hitters- like Adrian Beltre did way back when.
  10. Tiny sample size. He had those numbers early in the year,m and I heard the same thing. Some even wanted to demote him. Don't read too much into simple slumps.
  11. Would you want him back?
  12. Ben is available, isn't he?
  13. I agree. I was just wondering who was doing the thinking. Looks like my suggestion that we will reset after 2020 or 2021 is looking correct.
  14. Ask yourself why mess with success?
  15. You could trade Dalbec for a good young 1Bman.
  16. If that's what they said (doubtful) and this has nothing to do with my response about restgate.
  17. It's crazy to think we won't have a reset. We have some role players on the farm but nothing that will give us a boost.
  18. Who are the "thinking Sox?" Henry? We have no GM. I'm hoping that if we do decide to trade Betts this winter, we make a push at signing him after 2020. If we trade Betts, we might as well trade JBJ, and maybe even ERod, Workman and Barnes. Build up the farm. Keep a core of Bogey, Devers, Beni, Vaz and out of necessity, Sale, Price and E-o. Maybe look to spend again for 2021, but only players that look to have long term impact, or waiting until 2022 might also make sense.
  19. Sounds about right, although you never really mentioned Chavis as having a role at starting or platoon 1B or 2B- just later as an IF'er.
  20. What happened on that very first day of ST'ing, before any games even started?
  21. I happen to think the idea of giving the SP'er a little extra rest in spring made sense. They are aging, injury prone and came off a long playoff season with extra innings pitched. My hope was, we might suffer a little in April but more than make up for it later in the year, when we needed them most. I think most baseball people think resting players a little more helps them later in the season. The fact that it did nt, in this case, proves nothing. One sample size proves nothing. Sure, it can be used as evidence to support the opinion that it was a bad idea, but nothing can be proven. There are countless reasons why we sucked out of the gate. We've sucked in April before and gone on to have good to great seasons. Who know why that didn't happen this year. My guess is there are over a dozen reasons all lined up against us, this year.
  22. No, I didn't see the fire and desire, but I'm not about to blame it on Bogey getting 4 less ABs in spring, or that a lot of players getting 4-10 less ABs of 4-10 less IP as the big attitude changer. Maybe, and I stress the word maybe, it played a very small, and I stress the word very, role in the lack of fire & desire. That's my opinion, and you guys can go to town with yours, but it's all total speculation by all of us.
  23. ...and Workman and Barnes.
  24. This plan will likely put us over the $40M line, assuming we get a decent SP'er, RP'r and pay JBJ $10-11M. Maybe we can stay just under to avoid the penalties in the draft slots.
  25. I'm not sure anyone else will offer him 10-12 years, and I know the risk of these long term deals, but going longer than anyone else may help us keep him and lower the AVV.
