  1. Dalbec is the best defensive 3Bman out of Dalbec, Devers & Chavis. Maybe Chavis's stock rose a bit due to his hot first 3 weeks in MLB and timely hitting thereafter. If I was going to trade any of the 3, it would be Chavis, but since we have a need at 2B and 1B, we might just keep all 3. To me, Travis is all but gone. I'd give Ockimey a look-see as a possible 1B platoon (or DH, if we trade JD), but I think I'm in a small minority on him. Not thinking of player psyches or anything, our best alignment might be 3B Dalbec, 1B Devers, 2B Chavis, but I wouldn't mess with Devers, at this point. He improved a lot over 2019 on defense, and I don't want to distract him at all. If we plan to trade Dalbec or Chavis, I vote Chavis. We have Lin, Marco & Chatham to fight for the 2B job, or we can sign a cheap 2Bman, if they flop.
  2. So, JBJ to the M's for.... (Oh, NO! Not again!)
  3. Betts is just 1 year- Eovaldi 2. The Astros have tons of money due to not spending for several years. They do have some stars nearing free agency and big arb years, but they are losing Cole, this year.
  4. This was from Sept 30th, before the playoffs, and it mentions the Dodgers getting desperate, if they don't win in 2019. Hosuton was rumored to have wanted Eovaldi last winter. How about Betts & Eovaldi for Marisnik and a couple prospects? Then, we resign Betts after 2020 with the money saved from JD's opt out and Eovaldi's lost contract.
  5. We only have to make budget room for 2021. We can reset in 2020 with Betts or without him. JD will opt out after 2020, but I'd trade him now. We can let Leon & Hembree go. We can trade Price and Eovaldi for some relief, but from the rumors I saw, some of the players we'd get back drop off the budget after 2020 or 2021, so that would help, if we sign Betts after 2020. Once we reset, my assumption is we can go over again- just not the max line (probably). We lose Pedey's deal after 2021.
  6. I hope LSU wallops 'em, but I would not bet on it.
  7. At the time, Kimbrel was paid like the top closer in MLB, but it was 3 years. Teams have given up a lot for great players. I'm not sure many teams will or can pay $28M for Betts, but he's worth way more than that to any team. We should get a few very good offers- better, if we take back some salary or give some cash.
  8. Yes, per year, easily. People come to see him and the others play. They don't come to see Henry. Many come just to see Betts. They buy his jersey. They watch NESN, because of him, or even if just to watch all 25 players, he's worth 1/25th of that revenue per year. I'm estimating, but I'm pretty sure Betts brings in way more money than Hembree.
  9. Betts likely makes over $50-60M for the Sox, alone. Of course he's justified to make $30M+.
  10. But, you have a back-up in place.
  11. True, but on last final very generous extension offer would speak for its self. (The anti-Lester maneuver.)
  12. Agreed. Cots is all I ever use, being a "budgie" and all.
  13. It's not really "small market" anymore. The Dodgers did it with Joc. That Yanks do it. Put the best team on the field as much as possible.
  14. That's how I see it. First, I make him one final very generous extension offer, and let him know we value him and want him. Before trading him, I'd tell him we appreciate him and will be better in 2021 because of this trade. By 2021, we should have plenty of budget space to re-sign him. (By waiting until the season starts, however, we won't get a penalty for signing him in 2021.)
  15. He only has started less than 10% of his games vs lefties, so you may be right (476 to 49 GS'd). He's basically played 5 seasons and only has 377 total PAs vs LHPs. Besides, I'm fine with platoons, and it's easier to find a matching player who hits lefties well and can defend the OF for real cheap.
  16. I get that, but at the time, Webster & DLR were projected to be decent ML pitcher. It just didn't work out that way.
  17. If we end up having a big sell-off and get way below the tax line, once option could be to give Rusney his chance.
  18. I said the same about CC when we signed him. You are right, .572 means you should not play vs LHPs, but he's still worth getting.
  19. Well, Webster and DLR were supposed to be decent players, and we actually dumped 2 players (CC & Beckett) with AGon. In that year, those were a lot of dollars and years left on those deals.
  20. OK, Betts & Eovaldi. We'll keep Castillo. It's not like Eovaldi will surely be hurt.
  21. The want a ring badly. I'm flashing back to them taking CC to get pretty highly paid AGon & Beckett. But, hell no, they won't do it. Maybe if we threw in $10M x 3 years.
  22. I respect you a lot, jacko, but your team just had the most injuries in the history of the world, yet somehow our players are all fragile.
  23. Only if your name is Jacoby.
  24. Could we get Pederson for Price & Betts with no $$$ going to LA? No? How about Betts, Castillo & Eovaldi?
  25. I vote Lindblom.
