  1. We just did by adding Graterol, but we still have a long way to go. The trade will likely mean we finish with a worse record in 2020 than had we kept Betts & Price. That moves us up a little in the 2021 draft, We will not have not have draft of IFA penalties dues to spending, next year. (I'm hopeful we avoid penalties for the whole sign stealing situation.) We have some far away prospects that may crack the top 100 this summer or next winter. I'm trying to be hopeful, but it's hard to rebuild when your team wins and spends and gets penalized as much as we have.
  2. We certainly took a big hit to 2020, but tomorrow does look a heck of a lot brighter.
  3. I was against re-signing Porcello, but had I known we'd have this much budget space after dealing Price, I would have been okay with it, especially the one year deal.
  4. With a 26 man roster, now, the need for a big innings guy as a 5th starter is not as great. I don't think Bloom is done dealing. He has cap space now and may trade for a SP'er.
  5. Yes, we outbid everyone for Price, JD & Eovaldi, but only one was a mega deal.
  6. Great information. Some of these guys that have been traded may get traded again.
  7. Probably not, but we do outbid the big spenders from time to time.
  8. Agreed. He instantly adds value to a pretty weak farm.
  9. Mine. She just spends and spends without ever looking.
  10. I understand, and I'm glad he held out and got what he got. He may not be done dealing, since now he has cap space to work with.
  11. Where would you guys slot Graterol in our prospect rankings? soxprospects.com: 1. Casas 2. Mata 3. Groome 4. Jimenez 5. Dalbec 6. Duran
  12. Exactly, although paying $16M a year only saves us $15M a year (less than Eovaldi's deal), however trading Eovaldi would mean adding cash as well.
  13. If fun is misleading people into thinking the deal was done, then whoop-dee-freakin'-doo to you!
  14. He's not an idiot. He's a genius. Resetting the tax was not our only problem. We'd be in the same boat in 2021, assuming we will try to be competitive right away, had we not traded Price. IMO, Bloom will spend the savings from Price to get more value than Price was projected to give us over the last 3 years of his contract. Price may bounce back and make it look like a bad deal, but it was clear that we could have gotten more prospects back with Verdugo had we not included Price. Price was forced on LA, and they insisted on money to make it balance out the Betts-Verdugo equation.
  15. lmao. Nobody ever said you were wrong about us getting Verdugo. You were wrong about making it sound like it was a done deal. You got no cred.
  16. I expected to pay more than half just for a bag of used balls, so getting Graterol was a huge plus, to me. MLBTR... Graterol was a consensus Top 100 prospect a year ago and remains on those oft-cited rankings. Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs has already moved Graterol to the top of Boston’s prospect rankings, noting the big righty’s potential to either function as a high-end starter or, if he moves to the ’pen, an elite reliever.
  17. I'm hoping we can keep Devers and ERod around. Bogey is locked up at a decent cost. If Sale can return to form, we could be right there in 2021.
  18. This is more absurd than your fake news thread. Like Betts didn't "play ball." Betts is a true stud. It sucks to lose him, and wishing failure on him is just plain crazy. He didn't ask to be traded. I wish him the very best and am glad he's in the NL, so we don't have to face him all that much. I hope Bloom uses the money wisely. It's what he's known for. Let's hope the cliff is over soon. We have a nice core to work with.
  19. Touched a live nerve, I guess. That happens often when people who think they are never wrong are exposed. If you really believe the Dodgers wanted Price, you certainly can have that opinion. If you think Bloom really wished he was able to keep Price and not reset the tax, you can certainly have that opinion, too. You can even believe Boston forced Price on LA and it was a mistake. Fine, Believe whatever you want, but you were wrong on your pipe dream statement. I never expected you to own up to it. The world would stop, if you ever did. To think Betts for Verdugo straight up was a pipe dream but making LA take Price is in the Dodger's favor and no longer makes it a pipe dream (not even talking about Graterol) is funny, to me. Really funny. Cuss at me all you want, but I'm cracking up at the buffoonery of it all.
  20. Who plays a larger percentage of games over the next 3 games? Verdugo vs Price. What's the odds on this bet?
  21. She may not even be paying attention.
  22. I'd rather have him than not but not at $16M a year and certainly not at $32M a year.
  23. You can think Bloom is an idiot for dumping Price and half his contract, but my guess is it wasn't the Dodgers insisting on getting Price. I can see your point of view. Price still has a good chance at having a rebound, and we may regret forcing him on the Dodgers, but I think we can do better with the $16M x 3 years. We'll see.
  24. Had we made this deal months ago, we could have signed a couple free agents and not been too bad, this year while still resetting.
