  1. It's only 8 games, but I'm worried a bit, too.
  2. Our staff is light years better than last year's, and we don't even have Sale back, we have Houck at the alt site, Brasier on the IL and ERod with just 1 start under his belt. Okay, okay, that's the optimist view. I know we'll have some hard stretches here and there, but I like the way this team is coming together. 5-3 sure beats 3-5. 154 to go!
  3. I read this after my post. Nice point, max!
  4. I hated it, at first. It seemed like it cheapened the game and made a mockery of history, but it's growing on me, and I hate 15 inning and 4+ hour games.
  5. Sure looks different than Houck being sent to our alt site.
  6. Agreed, but he may play good enough for 6-7 years to nearly reach the value of his contract, and the decline will not matter.
  7. No doubt. If Richards stinks for 2 more starts, they may invent an IL stint for him.
  8. I'm with you. It's always been about the health of our starters and the need to have 3-4 of them doing well or 4-5 doing okay at any given time. The offense can cover the lack of defense.
  9. the AL East standings are upside down from most projections: 4-3 Bal 4-3 Bos 4-4 TB 3-5 NYY 3-5 Tor (The alphabeticalorder helps some, too.)
  10. Why can't Bloom find guys like them?
  11. Rough start to the season, but you guys will be back. I do think that like all of us, your eyes got too wide in the spring time.
  12. Very true, but clearly one main objective was to reset the tax and maybe even stay near the line for a year or two afterwards. Had we extended or re-signed Betts and kept the same budget restraints in place, it would mean going with in system or very inexpensive players at several other positions over the next 10 years. Now, that doesn't mean it can't be done. We've had a very large contract on the books pretty consistently, or at least 2-3 players over $20M/yr for many years since Henry's arrival. Look how Price's contract became a hindrance by just year 3 or 4 out of just 7. Clearly the Sox could "afford" Betts, but at what cost to the rest of the roster construction going forward? I think the Sox made the choice that having Betts was not worth having Verdugo, Downs, Wong and the money from not signing Betts to spend on several free agents and/or extensions. I do wonder when and if we'll ever sign anybody to a 7 or more year contract- maybe if they are 26 or 27 years old.
  13. I usually don't care much one way or another. Guys like JBJ, who was my favorite player, I root for, even though I argues against bringing him back at that high of a cost. I wasn't a huge fan of Beni, but I hope he does well, except vs us. I hope Porcello gets a chance some where and does well. Price, Kelly, Kimbrel and most of the others I can think of, I don't really care about.
  14. LOL Maybe it lasted just one year: 2020, and even then, it was just 60 games.
  15. Funny how you say once velocity is lost it can’t come back about Sox pitchers. BTW, I wasn’t trying to be cute about velo, but it is almost all you talk about with Sox pitchers with injury histories.
  16. No slack should be given. These guys need to know very simple rules and the have a large staff to help out. Besides, this was no new rule, and there weren’t that many new rules, anyway.
  17. It’s still early but where all those posters so dead set against trading Price? Too busy praising Kimbrel I guess
  18. He was a summer “steal.”
  19. My first marriage ended this way, but years later, I realized it was all for the best.
  20. Why not tell us about his loss of 3-4 mph on his velocity?
  21. Cordero could really end up being the steal of the winter, although Witlock might have something to say about that.
  22. Barnes has been real good for several years- just not as a closer and not on back-to-back nights. I'm 100% on building a rotation from the top.
  23. My HOF would be like 3 rooms.
