  1. I didn't think he'd get $7M or two years... Sox Sign Enrique Hernandez I'm glad he's onboard. And hey, we did something!
  2. If there were just one decent player left at each open slot we have, I'd be worried, but there are still many left (except CF, where we may have to trade for one).
  3. Some compared Betts to Hank.
  4. Not a bad idea. Can we trade him for Kenta Maeda? We could throw in C Wong.
  5. I don't disagree, but with so many options, and only one needing to work out, I don't think we should sign any 2Bman to more than a 1 year deal. Someone like Kike Hernandez for 2 years at a relatively low cost would be fine, to me.
  6. When my family visited Atlanta in the 70's, we went to a Braves game. Hank threw a ball to my little sister during batting practice.
  7. I don't think spending over $2-4M on 2B is worth spending less on pitching, or even CF. I'm not sure we want to go more than a 1 year deal anyway, since Dwons may be ready, next year. We also have a lot of current players who are ML ready and can play 2B- maybe one shines brighter than expected: Arroyo Chavis Arauz Munoz (not currently on 40 man roster)
  8. If I signed him, it would be for SS. It doesn't make sense to move Bogey to 2B or 3B or to sign this guy and take away one of his assets by playing him at 2B. If we want to spend larger at 2B, sing Wong or La Stella.
  9. I nice age for many of the greatest pitchers of all time. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=100&type=8&season=2020&month=0&season1=1960&ind=0&team=&rost=&age=33,33&filter=&players=&startdate=&enddate= 34 isn't too bad, either... https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=100&type=8&season=2020&month=0&season1=1960&ind=0&team=&rost=&age=34,34&filter=&players=&startdate=&enddate=
  10. I think I'm more optimistic about Sale than many here, but no way will we push him hard. We may need to focus on making sure he doesn't push himself too hard. Ease him in slowly, later this year, and hope he's ready to go in 2022. Remember, we are talking about... Chris Freakin' Sale!
  11. Sorry. I didn't notice other thread. I'm not sure how to delete.
  12. Glad we didn't outbid them for him.
  13. Dalbec also has had a much higher OBP his whole career- minors included, and plays much better D. He may "swoon," but he's got more tools than Chavis has or Middy had.
  14. I'd be okay with Colome & Workman, but I'd prefer Hand & Rosenthal.
  15. Profar to Padres. Chatwood to Blue Jays.
  16. A great man. A great player. Prayers to his family & loved ones.
  17. It looks that way, but if Chavis can adjust to how pitchers have figured him out, his offensive upside still leaves the window open, IMO.
  18. They might not trade away free-agents-to-be, if we are ahead in the WC race by the deadline. Maybe that's not "going for it," but it's not giving up, either.
  19. He could, but he could also do better than the last 2 years. He looked like he was aging pretty well from ages 33-36.
  20. Agreed, like last year's bunch.
  21. ...and if we end up playing really well, maybe go for it, instead.
  22. Much of our rise in farm rankings came from deadline trades and the Mookie trade. Seabold & Pivetta (not a prospect) for Workman & Hembree Rosario & Potts for Moreland Wallace for Pillar (Down & Wong, last winter for Betts) soxprospects.com has our draftees ranked rather low, so not much of a boost came from them: 13. Yorke 19. Jordan 32. Drohan (30. Whitlock Rule 5)
  23. I think he will. Maybe 2 guys to 3 year deals (Odorizzi may be one) Maybe 2-3 guys to build capable roster depth. Maybe 2-3 guys on 1 year deals as bridges to Duran or Downs or as possible deadline trade pieces.
  24. I've thought of that, too. Even if half end up being worthless, the other half can help build up the farm- like Moreland & Pillar did, last year. Why not sign 6 like them? (We could have also traded Perez.)
  25. IMO, management is wide open to the idea that whoever plays better wins the 2B job. I'm not sure anyone already has the inside track. Arroyo has the better D, and Chavis has the better O, in theory. If we sign Hernandez, I'd guess he gets the most reps. To me, choosing who we think will play the most is guessing who we think will do the best.
