  1. Santander, too. Maybe if we took Cobb off their hands, they'd not want too much back. Downs, Ward, Chavis & Pivetta for Means, Santander & Cobb was accepted by BTV.
  2. To bad the O's have so few good players to "raid."
  3. It was nothing short of a big steal. It makes me wonder about the doubts every other GM must have on Taillon. He's not just a one year pitcher. He's not expensive.
  4. Pitt should just fold, despite the nice stadium. They will never win it all or come close, again.
  5. Thanks for the specifics. Since we probably want to keep him under 120-140 IP, too, it makes sense to keep him at AAA for a couple months. It may not be April and May, as Sale & ERod will likely start the season on the IL, and Eovaldi is always a coin toss. We may end up sending him down, once a starter comes off the IL.
  6. Yankess get Taillon for 4 prospects- none of which are all that great, according to reports. I wish we had gotten him, despite my wish to keep the farm strong.
  7. I'd be surprised if 3 of these 5 are FT players for the Sox in 2023: Wong Duran Rosario Casas Downs (Least likely on top)
  8. You win! mlbtr reports: The Pirates will receive four prospects in return. ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan (Twitter link) reports that the minor leaguers in question are right-handers Miguel Yajure, Roansy Contreras, infielder Maikol Escotto and outfielder Canaan Smith.
  9. All the more reason to think about going way over the lux tax line next winter.
  10. soxprospects.com has Brice as being out of options. I'm not sure what Bloom sees in him, and I doubt they DFA him, but I agree with your idea. I'd start Houck and Valdez in AAA. Let's get an extra year of team control on Houck and limit his IP at the same time.
  11. Can Almora field well?
  12. Agreed. Too many BBs. His K/9 is near record breaking, and his H/9 is pretty good, too. Career (only 39 IP) 16.3 K/9 7.4 H/9 7.9 BB/9
  13. I'm super high on Taillon, probably way too high, but I just suggested this trade on BTV, and it was accepted: To BOS: Taillon, Stallings, Frazier & Hasely To PHI: Vaz, Beni & Pivetta To PIT: Abel, Jimenez & Marchan And, this one with STL: BOS: Taillon, Bader, Stallings, Frazier STL: Vaz & Beni PIT: Downs, Knisner, Ward & Hurst (I'd sub Casas & Groome for Downs & Ward, if they preferred.) I might even give Casas & Downs along with Vaz & Beni to a 3rd team to get Taillon, Stallings, Frazier and a decent CF'er.
  14. I doubt we sign 2 RP'er. Our need for a closer is too great to split the budget for the pen in two. I guess we could go real cheap at CF (Marisnick) and sign Colome and another decent RP'er, but for some reason, I think Bloom & Co are happy with our pen and pen depth.
  15. We could trade Beni for prospects and be up to about $20M. That could maybe get us Odorizzi ($13M) & Colome ($7M). I seriously doubt this is the plan, but if we traded Beni & Pivetta for a good CF'er, the roster could look pretty good.
  16. I do, too, but I now give the chances we sign Odorizzi at less than 1%. I guess we could trade Pivetta or even Eovaldi, but I doubt that is even being discussed.
  17. To be honest, I expected a $7M/2 deal- maybe $8 or $9M, and he got double. Maybe with budget constraints on so many teams, the competition for mid range deals has driven their prices up. These mid range deals are often hard to judge. Last winter, I thought the Perez ($6M), Pillar ($4.5M), Moreland ($3M), Peraza ($3M) and Plawecki $900K) deals were very questionable, but I figured Bloom had a good track record at finding "diamonds in the rough," and I knew we were all about "the reset," so I wasn't critical. As it turned out, 4 of the 5 did better than I expected- only Peraza was a clear dud, but at $3M, it was no biggie. We ended up getting Hudson Potts, Jeisson Rosario (my sleeper prospect) and Jacob Wallace for Moreland and Pillar. We probably should have traded Perez, too.
  18. Agreed, but the major priority- SP'er- has been filled, and not quite to my expectations, despite the high upside of Richards. Here is what I think we will do next: 1) Trade Beni for prospects or a RP'er of CF'er (see #2 and #3). 2) Acquire a RP'er- hopefully no worse than Colome. 3) Aquire a CF'er- maybe someone like Pillar. 4) Aquire OF depth- maybe someone like Marisnick, especially if we trade Beni for anything except an OF'er. Only the closer-type RP'er could get very costly. According to cots, we are about $14M under the luxury line, but we don't know if there is a directive to stay below or near the line. If we trade Beni for a min wage player(s) of prospects, we'd have about $20M to spend, in theory. That may be barely enough to sign JBJ, Colome & Marisnick. We may decide to sign Pillar, Colome and Marisnick and have something to spend at the deadline, if needed. I still think our roatation and closer slot are our weakest links, right now, but I think we are done adding any SP'ers beyond minor league depth. Closer is #1, right now, IMO.
  19. Looks like the roster is finally taking shape. It's not exactly what I hoped for, but I'm not bummed out, either.
  20. If you guys get Taillon, I'll have to hand it to you. I'd give them Downs or Casas for him, but I doubt they take it.
  21. I heard that, and now that we have Richards, I doubt SP'er is high on our trade wish list. I'm very high on Taillon. I'd give Casas or Downs & Bello for Tailon & Frazier. (Kike to CF)
  22. Although we need an injury-prone starter like a hole in the head, I kinda agree. This guy has extremely high upside, even if as trade bait, this summer. I wanted Odorizzi, but he's not exactly a slam dunk starter, and he'll get 3+ years.
  23. Vaz never was sent to Pitt. He was only involved in 3 way trades- like Vaz & Beni to Philly, Abel, Marchan & Ward to Pitt and Taillon & Stallings to BOS.... something like that. I just did one a few mins ago: BOS: Taillon, Stallings & Haseley PHI: Vaz, Beni & Groome PIT: Abel, Marchan & Ward We get a good SP'er, CF'er and a catcher to replace Vaz.
  24. So, a one year deal for Richards basically punts the pitching staff decision to next winter. Maybe better pitchers will be available. Maybe the economic outlook will look more stable. Maybe we will decide to cross the lux line significantly. Pedey's contract comes off the books while JD and Eovaldi's a winding down to their last seasons on the books. I'm waiting for a trade now- maybe Beni for a CF'er or RP'er or both. Maybe Beni for prospects, and we sign Pillar.
