  1. It's not like the league was trending towards 5+ runs per game, again. If this was all to shorten the games, these guys are dumber than I thought.
  2. One could claim the team put us and Sale through it.
  3. This could be the hardest one to win, but Perez has looked pretty good, of late. Gotta mop up on teams like this, as we have a very tough schedule ahead, particularly from May 31st to August 1st. The A's are up next.
  4. Good luck with that. I equate this with the NBA turning into a 3 point contest.
  5. Me, neither, but with so little starter depth, we're kinda stuck with this, now. I seriously doubt we make it all the way to Sale's return without needed a 6th starter. They keep saying they want to stretch out Whitlock, but they aren't doing it.
  6. Is this easier and better? 4+ IP 0 ER 6+ IP 2 ER 8+ IP 3 ER or 5+ IP 1 ER 6+ IP 2 ER 8+ IP 3 ER
  7. That's why I stopped at 8. Okay, okay- three things to remember.
  8. This could be it. It makes sense some pitchers would gain by the change more than others. Can or would they ever change baseballs in the middle of a season, or can Pivetta win the Cy Young?
  9. I'm not saying you are wrong, but he might be just getting lucky. His BAbip is .278, which is significantly less than his career .321 mark, so it does look like some luck is involved, but his hard hit % has dropped from 39.8% to 44.7% to 31.5%, this year. I'm not seeing a bunch of warning track shots or blister line-out for outs. I certainly doubt he leads our rotation in ERA, when the season is over, but it doesn't mean he has to return to 5.38 either.
  10. Just memorize 2 things: it starts at 4 IP and 0 ERs and adds an inning & ER each step. This is for "Good Starts" not "quality, and it's actually harder on the 6 IP case (2 ERs not 3). I'd be fine with taking away the 4 IP/ 0 ER category, but to me that beats 6 IP & 3 ER. BTW, this is a tweaked version of what I posted earlier.
  11. While Judge has "slumped," his OPS is still .819, so I wouldn't blame your offensive under achieving on Judge being 100 points less than expected. I'm still waiting for Stanton's annual IL stints to begin.
  12. He’s always had really good stuff, so “smoke and mirrors” might be a little harsh. His issues have been BBs and HRs. It weird he’s doing so well and walking more guys than ever. The low HRs might not be a fluke, though,
  13. Good points. Maybe it’s less warm-up time or coming into a different situation than a starter comes into.
  14. The pitching is carrying the Yanks. We keep waiting for the bats to wake up, but the more time goes by, the more I wonder if the projections were wrong. Plus, what happens if, and maybe when is a better word, Judge and or Stanton get hurt?
  15. I'd say Ottavino is still the number 1 set up man. Sawamura and Andriese might be next, but Andriese is also being used as a 2 inning guy- sometimes in the 5th or 6th inning. Whitlock is supposed be be "stretched out," so I'm not sure he's an 8th inning guy, unless he pitches the 6-7-8th or 7th & 8th. Valdez has done well, and it has seemed like it's been with smoke and mirrors, but he did the same thing, last year, so maybe he's for real. I can't see DHern as a top set-up man until he can get his control in order.
  16. It's absurd that 6 IP and 3 ERs is a QS, but 8 or 9 IP and 4 ERs is not. 5.2 IP and 0 ER is not. I understand a cut off has to be placed somewhere, and I'm okay with keeping the QS stat, as is, but we could create another stat and call it something else- like "Good Starts." 4+ IP 0 ERs 5+ IP 1 ER 6+ IP 2 ERs 7+ IP 3 ERs 8+ IP 4 ERs
  17. I wouldn't disagree. Not long ago, Taylor would be on the short list. He's done pretty well, lately. I'm not sure when the new date for Santana's opt out is, but when it's up, my guess is that is when we make the first move. We might decide to DFA Brice to bring up Santana, but it looks like they really like having 14 pitchers. Houck is no longer an option to be called up, so there is no clear pitcher to call up that has a very promising outlook. I guess Brasier is out for a while, too.
  18. Yanks won 3-2 on 5 hits. Pulled it out in the 9th.
  19. Go for the sweep, tomorrow, then we host the high flying A's.
  20. Nice win- all around. Yanks tied in 9th. Jays down big in 7th.
  21. May has not been kind to our pen ,and sometimes, our starters. IP- ER 5/1 ERod 5-4 Pen 3-4 5/2 Richards 5-1 Pen 3-3 5/3 Pivetta 5-3 Pen 4-4 (all by Brice in 0.1 IP) 5/4 Perez 5.2 2 Pen 4.1-2 (all in 10th inning) 5/5 Eovaldi 4.1-6 Pen 4.2-2 5/6 ERod 5-1 Pen 4-1 5/7 Richards 7-4 Pen 2-2 Today Pivetta 6-2 Pen 3-1
  22. One game, he went o for 3 with a BB and a big run scored. The next game he was 0 for 1 with a BB, so he got on base in 2 of his 6 PAs after that big game and before today.
  23. He’s never a GG candidate.
  24. I was just guessing, because I couldn't believe they'd bring him in during a high leverage situation.
