    Last trade deadline, Bloom made some very good moves, but the team was in clear "sell mode." It might not be so clear, this year, but here's a look at Bloom's in season moves, last year: Signed Jack Godley, Jhonny Perada (minor league deal) Acquired Dylan Covey (TBR) Waiver pick-ups: Robert Stock (PHI), Andrew Triggs (SFG), Stephen Gonsalves (NYM), Deivy Grullon (PHI) Trades: Workman, Hembree & cash for Nick Pivetta & Connor Seabold Moreland for Jeisson Rosarion & Hudson Potts Pillar for Jacob Wallace Osich for Zach Bryant

    Probably true. Even the first pick might be 99% scouting and the whole team more than the GM. The GM might choose one from a very short list that the team comes up with.

    The plate comp would be Duran vs Arroyo not Kike. (Kike would play 2B.)

    Very well said. The GM is only the guy who helps build the consensus, and makes the final call.

    True nuff. Kike was overpaid. Kluber was better than Richards. Perez had already shown he wasn't even a very good #5. Renfroe, Cordero, Marwin, Sawamura? LOL!

    Of course, and there were not enough fans to boo loudly enough for any effect. I was speaking more about the fans on this site. Most would have wanted him gone by the middle or end of April.

    I understand your view and don't disagree. As fans, we feel better, if the team picks someone we have heard about and is ranked highly. I'm a big fan of Bloom, and looking at his first round picks with the Rays is not encouraging, but that team was all about not spending big on anyone, so maybe they took the cheapest first rounder in hopes of spreading the wealth to all rounds. Maybe that's a good strategy for big spending teams, too. Maybe it was not really what Bloom wanted to do in Tampa, but their budget forced his hand. We'll find out a lot more about Bloom this draft, IFA cycle, trade deadline and his first winter where I feel will have no tax line limit, except maybe the second line ($20M over the first line.)

    If Duran gets the call, Kike can play more 2B, as well. Santana will be given a shot at beating out Dalbec for PAs v RHPs at 1B. If he fails, maybe they give Chavis one more look, before we add a 1Bman- maybe at the deadline.

    Our 2Bman is clearly Arroyo, but he was out hurt. He may not play well enough to keep it, and we have Kike, Marwin and Santana, who can all play 2B- plus Chavis and maybe Downs by September. It is one area we could improve, but we won't be giving up any promising prospects for a rental 2Bman. I'd give Chavis & Groome for Frazier, but I doubt Bloom would give even that much up for a player under control through just next year.

    Good points. Maybe they take the best of these 5-6 guys who will demand the least money.

    Our offense isn't as bad as it has been, lately. It will come out of it. The question is "When?" How about today??????

    It certainly would have been easier to give players like Cordero, Dalbec, Chavis and some kids a longer look, this season, had we not started off so well. Maybe in a month or two, we'll be in that position, but as of now, we should try to stay in the race. I like the Adam Frazier idea and suggested several Pittsburgh trades on the BTV site involving him and others (Taillon and/or Stallings). I might still trade Vaz, Ward and Chavis for Frazier, Stallings & Brault - something that might help now and even more going forward, despite Frazier having just 1 arb year left.

    Time to stop the slide, and Perez to assume the stopper role. If we can’t hit Odorizzi and this pen, something has to change. I’d like to see a change, today (2:10 start) with Arroyo and Verdugo batting 1 or 2.

    To me, I’m not counting on anything from Sale, except maybe a few innings of decent pitching. Our best shot at doing something special is for ERod to return to 2018-19 form, or Eovaldi to stay healthy all year and pitch like 2018. This assumes no great drop off from the other 3 starters. We can add a bat and pen arm at or before the deadline and still stay under the tax line.

    Rocker’s velo has ticked back up, but many sites have him going 5-7. I’m no expert, but if Lester falls to 4, I’d take him. I think Davis might be 2nd and Rocker third, but House May be the guy we take.

    Good to hear a positive post. To me, the best part about our roster construction and draft position is how we are set up very nicely for the short and long term future.

    I don’t remember a single poster saying we should have signed Gibson. It’s easy in hindsight.
