  1. Dalbec hits lefties well, and to me, he needs more time. If we had someone to call up, maybe. We don’t. Nobody but me likes Ockimey.
  2. some awful slumps in process: 7 days .056 Bogey .105 Kike .125 Marwin .200 Santana .500 Dalbec .583 Vaz .667 Verdugo & Devers 14 days .243 Marwin .359 Kike .501 Bogey .513 Dalbec .608 Vaz
  3. I remember Houston helping Charlie Morton find a new approach at something like 32-33 years old. He wasn’t bad before but I’m hoping this turns into something like that. Perez did have one of his best WHIP seasons, last year. Maybe with Pivetta, too.
  4. This would be a great time to pull off a big win streak or winning stretch. I like the pitching match up. I hope we keep Kike from the one slot going forward. I’d prefer Arroyo in the 1 or 2 slot and Verdugo in the other.
  5. Verdugo, Kike, Renfroe, Cordero and Marwin (JD in a pinch) was supposed to hold us over to Duran and maybe Santana. This was also supposed to be a bridge year.
  6. Will anyone claim him, or do we work out a trade? Probably we get nothing.
  7. How do GMs know who will sign for less and by how much?
  8. Probably. There are cases where a team has found the secret to making a pitcher improve drastically. Maybe, for once, we are that team.
  9. Well, I stayed away from the thread to get a break from some negativity, and maybe that was the mojo we needed... lol. Nice game. Perez is officially our #1 or ace or whatever you wanna call your best starter. Makes me think of all the times I asked myself, “How do other teams get the most out of these average Joe types.” Now, we are doing it! Thanks, Bloom!
  10. I guess I'll never understand what is so dismaying about any player(s) going on a 3 game slump- no matter who they are facing.
  11. I put it under Ho Hum, because it was rather questionable. The money helped the Yanks and kept us from signing 1-2 other FAs. If Frank German works out, it's a good deal. If we make the playoffs in part because Ottavino did well, it's a good deal.
  12. It seemed rather underwhelming at the time, but post-October... The Martin Perez signing with a team option is looking like one of the best steals of the winter. The Richards signing and his health has looked like a good signing, if not great. (He has a team option, too.) The Rule 5 picks have been shockingly great: Whitlock (6th in IP on the team 1.73 ERA), Tyreque Reed (1.135 OPS at Greenville) & Kaleb Ort (0.82 ERA with Worcester as their closer)] Josh Winckowski (Beni trade) has started 5 games at AA (1.33 ERA and 0.889 WHIP) Signed Hunter Renfroe to $3.1M with 1 arb year left. Signed Danny Santana to minor league deal with opt out for majors. Traded for Rolando Hernandez © for Springs & Mazza 3 PTBNL for Cordero Ho Hum: Traded nothing for Adam Ottavino & Frank German plus cash Signed Kike Hernandez ($7M x 2) Signed Jack Lopez, Daniel Gossett to minors Waiver pick up: John Schreiber (minors) Ummm???? Signed Marwin Gonzalez to $3M x 1 Signed Matt Andriese to $1.85M with team option ($250K buyout) Signed Sawamura to $1.2M x 2 with team option ($600K buyout) Cordero for Beni & others I'm happy with these moves, and they did nothing to hamper longer term plans.
  13. Like he should bench one of them due to a 3 game slump?
  14. That might be the first choice.
  15. I'm glad for Workman. This was where he did his best, and the Sox stuck by him for a long time. DFA candidates might include: Brandon Brennan (my guess) Marcus Wilson (might want to wait until Duran is back from Olympics) Brewer (doubtful) or move Bryan Mata to the 60 day IL and start the service time clock.
  16. Yes, Houston has a vast underground, pedestrian tunnel system- complete with restaurants and shops.
  17. Last trade deadline, Bloom made some very good moves, but the team was in clear "sell mode." It might not be so clear, this year, but here's a look at Bloom's in season moves, last year: Signed Jack Godley, Jhonny Perada (minor league deal) Acquired Dylan Covey (TBR) Waiver pick-ups: Robert Stock (PHI), Andrew Triggs (SFG), Stephen Gonsalves (NYM), Deivy Grullon (PHI) Trades: Workman, Hembree & cash for Nick Pivetta & Connor Seabold Moreland for Jeisson Rosarion & Hudson Potts Pillar for Jacob Wallace Osich for Zach Bryant
  18. Probably true. Even the first pick might be 99% scouting and the whole team more than the GM. The GM might choose one from a very short list that the team comes up with.
  19. Is everyone still cheating?
  20. The plate comp would be Duran vs Arroyo not Kike. (Kike would play 2B.)
  21. Very well said. The GM is only the guy who helps build the consensus, and makes the final call.
  22. True nuff. Kike was overpaid. Kluber was better than Richards. Perez had already shown he wasn't even a very good #5. Renfroe, Cordero, Marwin, Sawamura? LOL!
  23. Of course, and there were not enough fans to boo loudly enough for any effect. I was speaking more about the fans on this site. Most would have wanted him gone by the middle or end of April.
  24. I understand your view and don't disagree. As fans, we feel better, if the team picks someone we have heard about and is ranked highly. I'm a big fan of Bloom, and looking at his first round picks with the Rays is not encouraging, but that team was all about not spending big on anyone, so maybe they took the cheapest first rounder in hopes of spreading the wealth to all rounds. Maybe that's a good strategy for big spending teams, too. Maybe it was not really what Bloom wanted to do in Tampa, but their budget forced his hand. We'll find out a lot more about Bloom this draft, IFA cycle, trade deadline and his first winter where I feel will have no tax line limit, except maybe the second line ($20M over the first line.)
  25. If Duran gets the call, Kike can play more 2B, as well. Santana will be given a shot at beating out Dalbec for PAs v RHPs at 1B. If he fails, maybe they give Chavis one more look, before we add a 1Bman- maybe at the deadline.
