  1. I never wanted our playoff (or ring) hopes to rest fully on Sale's shoulders, but it looks like that's the way it is shaping up. Maybe Houck or Schwarber on O or a resurgence from Pivetta, ERod and Eovalid (or at least two of these three) can take up some of the slack, but it's going to come down to Sale This should be good enough to make the playoffs: 1. Sale at 80-90% 2. Eovaldi (like from April to mid July) 3. ERod (like over his last 8 starts) 4. Houck (SSS needs to repeat) 5. Pivetta (has shown life.)
  2. So, it's not all about the pitching? (Sarcasm alert)
  3. Your GM acquired injury prone players. This happens every year to you. How long does it have to keep happening before you say it's not bad luck?
  4. Some posters wanted Devers demoted "to work on fielding and finding his groove" back in April. Several wanted Renfroe benched in early May. Many bitched about Kike's playing time: now, they bitch if he's given a rest day. It happens every year, and the same people never seem to be surprised when players do not always repeat what they did the past week, month or several months the next month or year(s).
  5. His 2020 sample size was 237 PAs. I doubt GMs see that as an age-related decline after he put up these 2021 numbers. No, I more than doubt it. I'm sure of it. He'd have to suffer a debilitating injury between now and the end of 2022 to be even close to only getting a minor league offer. Have you seen what much worse 1B/DH types have been getting, recently? Yes, maybe not $45M/3, but also no where near minor league offers, and many have never had numbers even close to JD's recent numbers.
  6. You can't be serious. How bad? A .489 OPS? He'll have just turned 35 at the end of 2022. He's been healthy and works super hard to stay on top of his game. He's not 39.
  7. The luck has turned on us.
  8. What a game! Tied 0-0 through 6, then both team match each other with 1 1 1 2 runs in 4 innings. On to the 11th. I'm off to bed.
  9. Beni comes through!
  10. Infinitely worse. (Or better.)
  11. 1 is Sale. Another has to be Houck. I'm not sure Brasier or Arroyo are ready, yet, and it looks like Scwarber isn't. Who else is there? Munoz? (add to 40) I hope it's not Santana or Andriese.
  12. We have today and next Monday off, and Sale joining the team on Saturday, assuming he starts that day, but Houck is in AAA, so I do not think he can be called up to pitch on Friday. If this is true, WTF? So... Mon: Off TUE: ERod (+1 day rest)vs Patino (TBR) WED: Eovaldi vs ____ (TBR) THU: Pivetta vs ____ (TBR) FRI: Richards NOT HOUCK? vs _____ (BAL) SAT: Chris Freakin' Sale vs _____ (BAL) SUN: ERod vs _____ (BAL) Mon OFF TUE (2), WED @ NYY, THU off, FRI-SUN vs TEX Do we start a rotation of Eovaldi (+1 day rest) + Pivetta in DBLHDR vs NYY and Houck on WED Day off Sale (+1 days rest vs TEX) ERod (+ 1 day rest vs TEX) Repeat No more Richards or Perez starts!
  13. Maybe he offered way more than any of us thought he would and was turned down. Maybe he felt some quality players would cost less than they ended up costing. Maybe he felt like getting guys like Cron would just muddy the waters with Schwarber and cause a player to be DFA'd he was not willing to DFA. (I have a list of 4-5 players I would not mind seeing DFA'd, but Bloom likely feels differently.) We may never know what was offered and or turned down or even laughed at. I do not think the team was being dishonest by saying they were looking for significant additions, and I think they feel Schwarber was significant, as do I.
  14. Is it any better seeing him in LF? (Or, playing JD in LF and Scwarber at DH?)
  15. I'd do this: I won't mention DFA'ing Marwin because he won't be DFA'd, and he's better than the players I listed below to DFA. I can't believe they sent Houck down again. We'll miss one more start by him. DFA Robles, Santana, Richards or Andriese and add Munoz to the 40. Call up Munoz & demote Arauz Promote Sale (Saturday) & demote A Davis (2 options remaining). Send Richards to the pen. Promote Houck (after 10 days?) & demote or DFA Robles, Santana, Richards or Andriese (whoever hasn't already been DFA'd for Munoz). Add Ort, Gonsalves, Espinal or Schreiber to 40 and keep in AAA. Off the IL (when???) Schwarber: Demote Cordero to AAA D Hern: Demote Rios or Richards or DFA someone from the list above. Brasier: Demote Rios or Richards or DFA someone from the list above (Perez?). Andriese: DFA Andriese Santana: DFA Santana
  16. I really did not mean to make Plawecki playing more often into a big issue, nor the Vaz getting a little less from more pitchers than his back-up. It's not a major differential, like it was with Leon, but hey, Vaz needs more rest, and Plawecki is a good back-up. Just play Plawecki a little more, is all I'm saying, and I gave my reasons. Obviously 1B and the rotation are our highest need areas. Secondly, Bogey needs some more rest to get his wrist back to 100%. I was hoping we could wait until Arroyo returned to do that, but there is no word on when he returns, and a 50% Bogey is still better than Marwin. JD seems to be responding to more rest days, but we can't afford giving him days off until Schwarber is ready, and even then, we'll need him at 1B near FT. We could use Dalbec at 1B vs LHPs (.790), but we don't want to rest JD vs lefties for Schwarber at DH. Better to use Schawarber in LF vs some LHPs.
  17. Isn't the trade deadline past? Who is available as a FA 1Bman?
  18. I said better with pitcher not framing, blocking and other factors. I said Plawecki has been a batter hitter since 2020, but not over their careers. I never said demote Vaz to back-up. Never. Vaz needs more rest, and we have an excellent back up catcher who should be used more often, especially with pitchers he gets better results from.
  19. Where did I ever say Plawecki should be the #1 catcher? I said he should get 250 PAs.
  20. As the season has worn on, Vaz Offense after day(s) off End of JuneJune 3-4 (2B) 0-5 July 0-3 1-4 2-4 0-4 (after AS break) 1-4 0-3 AUG' 2-4 1-3 Remember his BA is .257, so 1-4 is about average.
  21. I actually mentioned maybe 250 PAs for Plawecki. That leaves 450 for Vaz. I'm not saying bench Vaz, and just about everyone agrees, he needs more rest.
