  1. If Arroyo ever returns, does Duran go to the bench or platoon? I like having Kike in CF.
  2. Time for Bogey to put the wrist injury in the back pocket.
  3. Cordero reaches the Mendoza line!
  4. Just read this after posting the same thing.
  5. Only 67 pitches through 5 IP! That's like 2018.
  6. JD is at .801 from May 1 to today. That's not bad for a slump. 46 RBI in 80 games is about 90 over a full season. Renfroe is at .817 since May 1st with 52 RBI in 83 games, which comes to about 100 over a full season.
  7. Come on ERod: don't give it back!
  8. It's a good question. Maybe since RP'ers usually get by on one great pitch- maybe two. Hell, Mo threw the same pitch for 40 years, and nobody could hit him.
  9. Next year, we kiss the tax line good bye.
  10. Vaz does not suck. He's the best catcher we have and better than most ML catchers. His biggest weakness, in my opinion, is not getting the best he can out of the staff, although this year that staff was exceeding expectations for most of the year. I had hoped VTek as a coach would help with the pitch-calling, but I think the whole catcher-pitcher relationship goes beyond just calling pitches and what happens when a pitcher shakes off a sign or two. I do recall some games where the pitcher never shook off a call by VTek. What's hurting us, now, is Vaz's big drop on offense. He was about at .800 from 2019-2020, but has dropped 150 points from that. Yes, the whole league has dropped as a whole, but not by nearly that much.
  11. He's a special talent. He brings a different perspective to the line-up. I would like to see him put together a good defensive season wire to wire.
  12. That's where you need a catcher who knows his s***.
  13. Devers Forevers. Lock him up- long term!
  14. I don't see Marwin being DFA'd for Munoz. We'd send down Arauz. When Arroyo is activated, then I'd do it, but I doubt Cora signs off on that.
  15. The guy put up good numbers in the minors and had a nice ML start in 2020. It seemed like just when I seemed to think he should probably be demoted to work on his swing, he had a few nice games. I was all for bringing up Santana, but that didn't work out. Casas is not ML ready. I even suggested Ockimey as a platoon for Dalbec and was laughed at by some. Should we have started Marwin at 1B? (LOL) Don't blame Cora: he had few choices- none obviously better than Dalbec. Blame Bloom, if you must blame someone, but we had to find out if Dalbec was for real or not. We can argue about when enough is enough, but I think everyone agreed. Is 2, 3 or 4 weeks all you give? Ideally, with a contending team, you have another option to play as you send the kid down to work things out in AAA. We had no better options. We tried the "throw everything against the wall" method, and Santana failed, Arroyo got hurt and Cordero is not hitting like he did in AAA before he was given his second look. To me, 4 weeks is not enough. 6-8 weeks, maybe. 10 weeks, probably. 3 months, more often than not, enough. (It wasn't for JBJ.)
  16. I don't remember saying he would. Maybe I said he might or possibly "expect" him to, way back when, but I rarely say a player will hit XXX. Are you talking about my pre-season predictions?
  17. X-Man is playing hurt, so "not showing up" is rather cruel. Devers has a ,931 OPS since July 1st- too bad nobody is on base for him to knock in. It's more JD, Vaz, Renfroe and a few others that are more to blame, OPS since July 1st .987 Plawecki (back up) .944 Arroyo (IL) .931 Devers .916 Kike .812 JD .760 Verdugo .711 Santana (IL) .689 Bogey (playing hurt) .663 Renfroe .597 Vaz .581 Cordero .577 Duran .551 Dalbec .510 Marwin All Year: .921 Devers .888 JD .873 Bogey .792 Arroyo .783 Kike .778 Plawecki .772 Verdugo .655 Dalbec .646 Vaz .625 Arauz .577 Duran .566 Marwin .554 Santana .517 Cordero
  18. He has pitched 87, 85, 75 and 74 pitches, this year, but he has yet to go past 5 IP. In 2020, he pitched 6 inning in 2 of his 3 starts. I'm not sure how much that injury set him back, but maybe he can pitch over 80 pitches, next start. If he does well, that could get him to 6.
  19. Yes, 100% on Dalbec and Cordero. Marwin hitting under .570 is unacceptable, and being 9th in team PAs seems absurd, but Arroyo has been out, and Kike was needed in CF, so I can understand most of his playing choices. Personally, I'd have limited Marwin's playing time more, but I don't see Arauz as being a better choice, so I'm okay with what Cora did. I was for demoting Cordero about the same time he was- somewhat before, but not by much. I was for finding a platoon partner for Dalbec earlier than Cora/Bloom, but not by so much more time for me to complain about the timing. I don't believe 100-200 PAs is enough to determine who a player is. With Marwin, we knew we had about a .700 hitter who in this new era would adjust to .650, so .550 is not "way off." Cordero & Dalbec ahs very limited ML sample sizes, so they both needed longer looks, IMO. Again, I'd have gone shorter on all 3, but not by enough to say Cora/Bloom messed up. I'm glad they did not give up on Renfroe.
  20. When is Houck's next start? Any word on a timetable for Arroyo's return? Brasier? Schwarber?
