  1. Here's the list of Rule 5 Candidates: Brayan Bello Cole Brannen Gary Calvo Marco Cardoso Pedro Castellanos Felix Cepeda Kole Cottam Kutter Crawford Ricardo Cubillan Osvaldo De La Rosa Tyler Dearden Jonathan Diaz Danny Diaz Jeter Downs Tyler Esplin Durbin Feltman Ryan Fernandez Ryan Fitzgerald Antoni Flores Frank German Rio Gomez Devlin Granberg Gilberto Jimenez Jose Larez Dominic LoBrutto Bryan Lucas Charlie Madden Alan Marrero Elih Marrero Joan Martinez Alexander Montero Oddanier Mosqueda Brendan Nail Brett Netzer Tanner Nishioka Kaleb Ort Yusniel Padron-Artiles Aaron Perry Antonio Police AJ Politi Ceddanne Rafaela Oscar Rangel Tyreque Reed Jesus Rosillo Yasel Santana Victor Santos Zach Schellinger John Schreiber Gregori Segovia Chase Shugart Miguel Suero Jake Thompson Thaddeus Ward Grant Williams Josh Winckowski
  2. We won't be losing any of the 6 to free agency, this winter, and we may add 5-6 Rule 5 players to the 40 man roster- effectively doubling the amount in just a few short days. If you add the 5 IFAs, which is one way to obtain home grown talent, we might have 16-17 homegrown players on next year's opening day 40 man roster. We have also added some prospects by trade. Although they are not "homegrown," they are still prospects, or were not too long ago. That's not making excuses for the failures of farm-building and the trading away of several prospects that would likely be on our 40 man roster, today. We do need further change, but to me, the change has already begun.
  3. I wonder who nearly emptied the farm.
  4. Wanna know something quite amazing about our 40 man roster? Only 6 players were drafted by the Sox. (Vaz, Barnes, Dalbec, Houck, Groome, Duran) 5 are IFAs (Bogey, Devers, DHern, Bazardo, Mata) 17 by trade 7 Free Agents (JD, Perez, Plawecki, Renfroe, Kike, Richards, Sawamura) 3 Minor League FA additions (Brasier, Santana, Munoz) 3 Waivers (Arroyo, Valdez, Shaw) 2 Rule 5 (Whitlock & Arauz)
  5. All numbers are flawed. Yes, Richards has done much better as a RP'er, but maybe it's just that he's done better over the last few weeks, and not because of the role change. I admit, that is unlikely, but other pitchers have much better numbers that last 3 weeks, too. I like what I have seen in Richards, of late, but I'm not ready to trust him for multiple high leverage situations, just yet. The problem is, I don't trust anyone else, either, so we are choosing the lesser of evils, here.
  6. I think Potts and Rossario will be DFA'd. I wonder about Arauz and Munoz- maybe Davis. If we sign 3-5 FAs and protect 4-6 Rule 5 prospects, some of these guys will go.
  7. I don't disagree, but if the Yanks pass the Rays, because the Rays imploded (not likely), then maybe I'd want to face the Rays in the WC game.
  8. We keep having (or choosing) to use Whitlock the game before Houck starts. That hurts.
  9. I think it depends on how different the 4 seamer looks from the 2 seamer.
  10. 1. Schwarber LF 2. Devers 3B (what a mighty 1-2!) 3. JD DH 4. Bogey SS 5. Verdugo RF 6. Plawecki C 7. Dalbec 1B 8. Duran CF 9. Arauz 2B
  11. Plawecki has a .258 OPS over his last 7 games. That time frame coincides with the time some of us, myself included, we saying he should play more. Some, not me, wanted him to be the starting catcher over Vaz. I would sit Dalbec vs the RHP and give Duran another game. I'm not sure I'd lead Duran off, though. Maybe something like this: 1. Verdugo LF 2. Schwarber 1B 3. JD DH 4. Devers 3B 5. Bogey SS 6. Renfroe RF 7. Plawecki C 8. Arauz 2B 9. Duran CF
  12. No, of course not, but 3 games, yes, I'm 100% sure. No manager sits a guy like JD 3 games, unless they're hurt. As I showed, he hasn't even sat Dalbec 3 games but one time, and that was after he had done well in his previous 2 games. It just does not happen to studs like JD. Yes, the Dalbecs, Marwins, Santanas and other mere mortals, but not JD. With Cora being the all-loyalty guy, it was 100%. Plus, iortiz made the 3 days off claim after knowing those guys were all out (including Arroyo). Not that it matters, but right before JD's 9 game very bad slump, he hit 1.394 in his previous 6 games. 1.103 in his previous 9 games. .877 in his previous 29 games Managers rarely make knee-jerk reactions concerning their best players, and especially after just a 9 game slump.

  14. He has gone 5 innings, twice- just not with a lead. He's also gone 4.2, twice and 4.1, once. He's one 5 inning start away from tying Perez at 4.5 IP/GS. The team is 4-4 in his starts.
  15. How do we view his role in 2022? Is this all a fluke?
  16. When is the last day we gained a full game on the Yanks? I know it was at least 2 weeks ago. Nobody is gaining on the Rays (also 9-1 in their last 10!) Here is the updated AL Standings, and we are tied with the CWS for the 4th best record in the league. 81-48 TBR 77-52 HOU -4.0 best record 76-53 NYY -5.0 ALE 75-56 BOS -7.0 ALE/ -2.0 WC1 75-56 CWS ALC leader 71-59 OAK -3.5 WC2 69-61 SEA -5.5 WC2 67-61 TOR -6.5 WC2 Today's Games: BOS (Houck) @ CLE (Morgan) TBR (Archer) @ BAL (Watkins) NYY (Montgomery) @ OAK (Blackburn)
  17. I didn't agree with the idea of benching JD 3 games over a 9 game slump. Someone complimented me on that position, and I was trying to say taking that position was not hard to do "(rocket science"); it's the position every manager in MLB would make. I don't deserve credit for stating the obvious.
  18. He said he wanted to test Ottavino with a higher pressure save situation, so he would know if he could count on him the next super tight event.
  19. He said he wanted to cause a big debate on all the Sox blogs.
  20. I’m not taking credit for a decision every manager on the planet would have made. Not agreeing with the idea of benching JD over a 9 game slump is not rocket science.
  21. Actually, I suggested we bat JD 3rd or 6th.
  22. 4 balls and 1 strike. Thank God the guy swing at ‘em!
  23. Bases loaded, so bring in the guy who always walks the first guy!
  24. The thing is, even if he went 0 for 5, sitting him more than one game is just plain wrong.
