I see this order: 1. Plawecki 2. Potts 3. Rosario 4. Valdez 5. Arauz 6. Locastro 7T. Davis/Bazardo/Sawamura

The only catcher that might have no trade value is Plawecki. I think we keep Wong and Hernandez or trade anyone of our others. The only reason I see Cottam as a possible protectee, is that good catchers are so hard to find.

I'd say Cottam might be unprotected- Crawford a little less likely. I don't know much about Santos, but he seems to be closer to a lock than the two I just mentioned. Bello, Downs and Winckowski are locks. Feltman is likely, IMO.

Exactly, unless Henry gives Bloom a second wallet. To me, getting Baez should mean we are trading Bogey. I suppose we could trade Vaz and Renfroe to add $14M for Matz, but we need more than that. (Then, we'd need a catcher and RF'er.)

I think some other GM needs a SS more than we need a 2B/SS, but with so many on the market, one never knows. I've also read we might be a surprise choice for Semien, but I highly doubt it. We'll probably wait out on Bogey, hope Downs and Mayer impress, next season, and see what happens. I really like Baez, and I think Cora does, too. Who knows?

That's probably what they would do, since Baez has a lot of experience at 2B, but he's so much better at SS D, I would not "waste" him at 2B. If we sign Baez, trading Bogey makes the most sense, to me. Of course, it depends what we get, but I happen to think we could get a nice return.

Maybe no GM thinks Boyd is worth $7M+. He seems like a good gamble at that cost.

I'm not, but he does seem to be part of many of my BTV trades.

1. I don't think you can assume anyone would have the same stats had they been with another team playing different opponents in different parks with different defense behind them. 2. I was comparing who projects to more total value- not who would help the team when most needed (going forward). If this is the main criteria, then I'll take Downs & Wong or Graterol over Maeda. 3. It's hard to imagine Maeda helping us go farther in 2021 than we did, assuming he pitched close to the same, but he might still have been better than Perez or some other clowns.

Is Baez faster than Duran and Locastro?

With Boyd, my guess is they think he's worth less than the arb estimate of about $7M and think they can do better from withinthe system of by signing a better pitcher for $7M or an equal pitcher for less than $7M. Renfroe and Boyd are both estimated at $7M, but Renfroe has another arb year. Would anyone trade Renfroe for Boyd?

It may help some defenders, particularly OF'ers, make up for bad breaks on the ball or poor route-taking to still make the play, but yes, speed, alone does not make a defender great. The quickness vs speed aspect is important. I think Devers is quick (as in reflexes), but not too fast.

YES! Speed and quickness up the middle on defense was common with both these managers.

I'm thinking, if we sign Baez, we are telling Bogey, "You are playing 2B or 3B or bye bye."

I'd lean no, unless we trade Bogey or he readily agrees to play 2B in 2022. I'd probably go $114/6.

He was the best of the best. Sparky's comment makes sense, too, especially in an era where speed was more important- on defense and offense.

It was sarcasm. I think Maeda's production will end up being better than Downs+Wong, but it's not a clear choice.

BTV hated Boyd, then liked him, and now back to the dumps. I think the Tigers hold on to him, if all they can get is Franchy- who cleared waivers. He should not ne non tendered- even at a $7M arb cost.

Yes, one-third of $300M is $100M. That's what he will likely get. (Maybe a 6th year option with a $5M buyout making it $105M/5.)

True, but we could have benched him, if that's what we wanted all along.

Baez might get $100M/5. Let's not say he's near the money those others will be getting.
