    If you project his numbers over 650 PAs, it’s more like 35 HRs and 110 RBI. If you project just the 2021 numbers over 650, it’s more like 30-100.

    It makes it harder, yes, especially when our high need areas are pitching and defense, and we don’t seem to need a fix at 1B or LF.

    I do think Cora is a great manager, but I also feel like having to defend him so often gets tiring and makes it look like I think he can do no wrong. He makes mistakes and I disagree often. I don’t always view my disagreeing as being critical, so I am see how I look hypocritical to some, and why is it okay for me to be critical but not others. I thinks a heat of the moment thing for some, who just need to lash out at something or someone. The manager is always the easy target. I guess what bothers me is the apparent talking out of both sides of the mouth, and the hindsight what ifs. When I hear things like “he’s handing this game away,” my skin crawls.

    JD makes $19.4M next year. His choice might be to take that and see what he can get afterward or go for something longer term as a higher security position. I dont think he opts out but he might. He might opt out and get $60M/4 while Schwarber signs for $68M/4. It’s a guess at this point.

    JD will probably not opt out, so it's not hard to imagine us thinking we can't pay two guys big money as primary DHs and poor defenders anyplace we put one of them. One scenario is we sign Schwarber to $16M a year and trade JD while paying $6M a year of his 1 year left and end up spending $22M on a DH- same as this year. (Would someone take JD +$6M?)

    Kinda the same as the first FA to sign. If it's with the same team, it's basically an extension, but he did hear out other teams, first, I guess.

    I get that, but they take it our on Cora (and Bloom), while some seemingly like and care about those two.

    They play 26 games in the next 27 days. (2 days off and one double header) Much is said of their 12 games remaining against TBR & NYY, but their other 14 games look very winnable: 7 vs BAL 7 vs MIN They end the season with 3 v BAL at home, while we play 3 away at WSH.

    Agreed, and the D sure sucked for the scrub pitchers that came in during games past, but Cora was blamed for those losses.

    We all had high hopes for Verdugo after hitting .817 with LAD in 2019 and .844 in 2020. He was at .899 on May 5th, and it was a close call on grouping him with the Devers, Bogey & JD group of with the second tier. He's still at a respectable .785 and has had some big hits along the way. Speaking of OPS...now Verdugo is between 2nd and 3rd tier... 1.005 Schwarber (95 PAs) .894 Devers .867 Bogey .865 JD .828 Renfroe .811 Kike .785 Verdugo .777 Arroyo (175) .762 Dalbec .756 Plawecki (148) .656 Vazquez .578 Duran (112)

    Agreed, and the SEA-BOS series could turn the season, even without a sweep. either way. The funny thing is, the Ms have a big net run disparity between scoring and allowing runs, yet they look closest.

    Exactly. I'm not for handing him away. I guess, if Schwarber proves he can play 1B, we could trade Dalbec and keep Verdugo.

    If Dalbec hits well, Verdugo is too good to ride the bench. He's worth more to another team as a starter than to us as a 4th OF'er. I got that reasoning from you.

    If we keep Schwarber and JD, trading Verdugo makes sense. LF Schwarber CF Kike RF Renfroe The only viable option might be to do a 3-way platoon (Verdugo-Dalbec at the plate and Schwarber playing 1B or LF depending on who sits.) v RHP 1B Schwarber LF Verdugo CF Kike RF renfroe v LHP 1B Dalbec LF Schwarber CF Kike RF Renfroe

    Okay, then even the O's and Seattle records, and you're barely 3-4 games better off.

    The 2018 team was not a great defensive team, but they had a few positions where they were plus or even plus, plus. There's a difference between average or even a little below average and what we are seeing, now. This is unchartered territory, to me. It's been horrific. It's gut-twisting, horrible defense.

    I gotta say this, because it lines up with what I've been saying about all of the Cora bashing over lose-lose choices. Yesterday, Cora used our best pitchers and all 11 runs scored on them. NOT Davis & Gonsalves. Is Cora a genius for bringing them in and keeping us in the game? Why aren't people bashing him for bringing in Richards (1 run), Taylor (1 run), Ottavino (1 run) and Whitlock (3 runs) after Sale's start (5 runs)? Here's a game we lost while Cora did everything he could to win it and used all our best guys, many who now can't be used, tonight. Can we cut the guy some slack? Yes, he makes mistakes, and the team seams to be lacking focus due to several obvious reasons that transcend baseball, but even when he seems to do everything everyone wants him to do, we still find a way to lose.

    I don't disagree, but our defense sucks way worse than I've ever seen any team play in my lifetime. It's not even close. It doesn't take the pitching or hitting off the hook, but the D has lost plenty of games we could/should have won. Yes, we have over performed our expectations, but that is no sniveling excuse for the D to play like this. (See how I twisted that 180?)
