  1. We've hit righties better over the season, but with Dalbec's resurgence and Verdugo now being platooned, I expected better. .787 v RHPs .758 v LHPs When a lefty starts: .754 A righty: .792
  2. Best OPS Against by the 15 pitchers with over 165 PAs against: .638 Whitlock .640 Barnes .644 Houck .662 Taylor .690 DHern .697 Ottavino .700 Valdez .701 Eovaldi .730 Sale .734 Pivetta .772 Sawamura .773 ERod .824 Richards (.594 as a RP'er in 96 PAs against) .842 Perez .942 Andriese Red= no guaranteed contract with Sox, next year. Nice to see our top 3 are some of our youngest pitchers and all have many years of team control.
  3. Going by just a very simple look at our pitching staff, something jumps out at me. Of our top 12 IP pitchers (over 40 IP), the worst 4 ERAs are our 2, 3, 4, and 5 IP leaders- all starters. 4.93 ERod 152 IP (96 ERA+) 4.52 Pivetta 149 IP (104) 4.65 Richards 134 IP (102 got here in relief) 4.78 Perez 113 IP (99) This is not all that uncommon, as RP'er typically have lower ERA for a number of reasons, but it points to the area we need the most focus on over the winter. The FA options do not look all that great, and many of the best are way past prime. Maybe a short-term post prime stud can get us to the promise land without breaking the long term bank. Who knows?
  4. They are a half back of us and a half ahead of the Jays. They play one less game going forward. We face another lefty, tonight.
  5. 2 solo HRs, again. This pattern is killing us. Errors and non errors on playable hits, too. I know we broke the team record for 3-run HRs in a season, but we need a few more, and pronto! I had hoped Sale was ready to be "pushed" to an extra inning, but sadly that was not the case. Houck doesn't look the same, either. I'm not sure a returning Whitlock is going to do any better. I'm glad we have Eovaldi going, tonight, despite his last start, but it might all come down to Richards and Taylor. It would be nice to get up by 6 or 7, but at this point, that seems like fantasy.
  6. My bad. Haniger might get some MVP votes, especially if you make the playoffs.
  7. Go ahead and give up. No doubt, this team has weakness- maybe too big to overcome, but so do all the teams around us, so I still have hope. I know this is not about just one game- the putrid one from last night- but an allstar team can lose to the O's in a must win situation. That's baseball. Keep reading into losses like that whatever you want. I call it negativity. We'll see if it ends up being reality, and you guys can "I told you so" me to the woodshed. I'm thinking some of you all will enjoy being right- more so than if we make the playoffs. That's what I find sad.
  8. Scary times in Sox Nation... 90-68 NYY +2 WC1 88-69 BOS +.5 WC2 88-70 SEA -.5 WC2 87-70 TOR -1.0 WC@ 85-73 OAK (all but dead) We are dangerously close to putting our hopes in the hand of others. Just win, and we're in!
  9. The realistic view of 2021 is getting darker and darker. Oh, wait. That's my eyelids closing. Good night. Just win, tomorrow.
  10. I never said bring back Richards. I just pointed out the option makes it more like $8.5M than $10M. I have been leaning towards offering the QO to ERod, but it is close, and it's a one year deal. He may say no, and we gain a pick and slot money. The choice to keep Richards and ERod does not need to be made now. When did I say give Bogey a raise? I'm for extending Devers, yes, but maybe not keeping him at 3B. I'm for trading Vaz, and if there are no takers, decline his $7M option. I'm for trading JD, so we can sign Schwarber. I'm for improving the D, but it won't be easy without major trades or realignments. I'm for spending almost every penny on SP'ing.
  11. Haniger is killing the A's. He just homered again. M's up 4-2 in 7th. I can't stay awake to watch. If they hold the lead, we look at this tomorrow: 90-67 NYY 88-69 BOS 87-70 SEA 87-70 TOR 85-73 OAK (all but dead)
  12. Maybe, but that's all part of the equation.
  13. Smacking fate upside the head. We better start rooting for the A's to beat the M's. It looks like the Sox and Jays are both trying to hand it away.
  14. Cause they test for steroids, now.
  15. Someone tell me why the Jays deserve it over us?
  16. Easier than the Yanks or Jays. The O's suck. I also said, if we can't beat these guys we don't deserve it. 2 more to go. One at a time, though.
  17. It seems to be our M.O. We crush the ball for key outs and they bloop, and swing-bunt and find our weak fielders to scratch runs over and over.
  18. Why? Jays are losing.
  19. It's like we thrive on backing ourselves as far into the corner as possible. The only good thing is, we've always bounced back. Getting pretty iffy, here.
  20. The ole line out to end the game. Typical.
  21. At least X swung at a strike.
  22. That's really funny.
  23. Looked like 4 balls to Devers. He swung at 2.
  24. Time for the meat of the order to bring the bacon.
  25. This game ain't over.
