    Don't be surprised, if it doesn't dip by as much as you expect. 33 games is just 33 games, and his farm numbers were very good. Nobody is thinking Duran straight up for Montas.

    Last year's team was pathetic. Something like 65% of our pitching was from guys like Perez, Weber and dozens of scrubs. We knew the budget was going to be fixed. We knew we had over a dozen 40 man roster slots that needed much improvement. We had some hopes in guys like Pivetta, Arroyo, Dalbec, Renfroe, Cordero, Marwin and others, but a lot of "ifs and or buts." Whitlock was a "magic carper ride" as was Renfroe to some extent and the hot streak by Dalbec. ERod and Sale's returns were not certain, at least as their former selves. That being said, I predicted 86 wins before we signed anyone. I loved the Kike signing. My biggest reason for having so much hope going into this year was more about how the other AL teams looked. From day one, I pointed out that every AL team had major weaknesses. I think that rang true. It looks like the Astros had the least of all. I wasn't a Sox fan in '67, but from what I know, that season was more magical than 2021 and 2013. We can agree on that.

    That's true and one reason I think Cora is a very good manager. Not a genius. Not brilliant, but just plain very good. (Bloom is very good, too.)

    That's pretty much it, in a nutshell. We can overanalyze all we want, but it was just 3 games. No decisions or definitive judgements should be made solely on these 3 games. Sure, some of the wekanesses we showed in these 3 games were apparent all year long, so those are fair game.

    Much of the pitching help they picked up did worse than Robles and Davis. They just gelled at the right time. Graveman is good, don't get me wrong, but he usually isn't this good, and I never heard his name mentioned by any posters as a possible target for Bloom.

    I love baseball, and played it a long time. Maybe it's the 162 game season, but I rarely watch any other baseball games, if the Sox are not one of the teams. That's always been the case, but I usually watch the World Series or elimination games. I just don't feel up to it, this year, and I dislike the Astros too much to want to watch them win. You don't have to listen to all the Astros crap I hear down here.

    What don't you get? I think he's the best manager the Sox have ever had, which for long stretches is not saying much. I have disagreed with his choices many times, but I realize he knows much more than I do. I think he's the best. We can quibble over the terms "genius" and "brilliant," or call it hyperbole, but it's my opinion. I can understand why you don't think he is, and your points have merit, and it's your opinion. Can you answer my question?

    Morton has never gone over 195 IP and has gone over 158 just twice. Pivetta might not be a good example, even if Cora would stop yanking him. The 3rd time through rule is dominating, and it's for good reason... Pivetta: .700 first time .641 second time 1.011 third time (119 PAs is rather significant)

    The Astros pen came together at just the right time. They were not all that great for most of the year.

    That's how I see it. Sure, if our batters had a better approach, we'd likely have scored more, but probably not enough. We'll never know. It's like the chicken and egg argument.

    The pitchers that can go 6-7 cost $30M.

    Yes. 2-3 slots to fill, but not the luxury of signing 4-7 pitchers in hopes that 3 stick. Sure, we can sign several minor league contract deals, but we need solid pitching. I'd prefer 2 starters (1 could be ERod) and 1-2 RP'ers, but if we move Whitlock or Houck to starter, we'd reverse those numbers. I do think 90% of our winter budget should go towards pitching.

    I'm fine with Whitlock as a starter and think he'd be better than Houck. I also think Houck could make a great closer. He reminds me of Papelbon. I'd rather keep both where they have proven they can do very very well. No fence. Just a consistent opinion.

    3-way for a pitcher or a a pitching prospect. I doubt we trade Bogey. We might sign Baez and wait to the deadline, too.

    I was going to say something very similar, and while the A's are no push-overs, they will never spend like the Astros.

    Okay, maybe "genius" and "brilliant" might be a poor choice of words or exaggerations by some (or different views on what those words mean,) but your white flag comments are just as extreme on the other end of the spectrum.
