  1. I want Schwarber, but I think it's an either or situation.
  2. I don't doubt Cashman might get a GM offer, if he was to be axed, but why would anyone take a GM who spends $200M to not win a pennant to come to their team and spend $70-190M?
  3. Not true. I've mentioned it often, but have usually said he should be given a longer chance. I'd rather move Bogey off SS (to 2B?) than Devers off 3B. Besides, we have a 1Bman with Casas in the wings. Someday, maybe.
  4. Schwarber basically forces one of these guys to the bench or Kike to 2B for Arroyo: Dalbec Renfroe Verdugo JD While I like him more than any of these guys, the upgrade on O and downgrade on D does not outweigh what the same money going to a new or better pitcher could and should bring us. Let's say Schwarber costs $17M/yr. Think of what a $30M pitcher will bring us vs a $13M pitcher, Isn't that a better upgrade than Schwarber over Dalbec?
  5. BTV accepted Dalbec, Duran & Downs for Montas, Trivino and Buelvas. I know, it goes against the no 3-D trade rule, but still...
  6. I'm the driver of the Devers Forevers Bandwagon.
  7. Umm, one game proves you right? I never said going scoreless for the first 5 is a good thing, is needed or adds to our chances of winning. I just think it is silly to make statements like we need to score early to win. It's just not true. Sure, it's helpful but not essential. We keep going on and on repeating our positions. Let's just move on.
  8. If it's Devers last year, when they trade him, I wouldn't view it anydifferently.
  9. It's 26 to start with. I'll walk you through it... You had 17 listed but 3 were question marks and 1 was Chavis. So, 17-3 (???'s) = 14. 14-1 (Chaviz)= 13. 26-13=13
  10. I meant for Montas 39.6 or Manaea 18.5, but Trivon is probably worth more than 1.1.
  11. Who would OAK want from us? Downs? Duran? Arroyo? or would they demand Casas?
  12. True, but the way renfroe is hitting and hitting into DPs, I'd choose to sit Renfroe, who could also be used to PH later.
  13. That seems to be the best plan. Don't pay big for a closer. Reduce SP addition costs. I'd still sign an additional SP'er, even if ERod comes back via a QO.
  14. Is this better? This is 19 with no Verdugo & Pivetta and some players combined into 1. Pillar & Puello count as one Peraza Plawecki Arauz Moreland (re-signed) Arroyo Munoz Grullon/Lucroy count as one Perez (IP leader in '20) Weber Valdez Mazza Godley Springs Brice Osich & Covey count as one Kickham & Stock count as one Hart & Triggs count as one Leyer & Tapia count as one
  15. Okay, take 10 off my list and it's still more holes than I said. There were obviously 10+ serious holes that needed filling that were expected to be part of the 26 man for a significant time. You listed 22 slots with 17 names that included 3 question marks and Chavis. That's 13 holes by your own admission on just the 26.
  16. Agreed, but it is getting ridiculous.
  17. I know there are no rules, but one can be made. It's too subjective, now. I'd just make the bat crossing over half of the plate a strike. On the play you mention, it might be unfortunate, but you could allow umpire discretion to over rule the robo ump in just these cases. Many times, a batter trying to get out of the way, moves the bat, but it never actually goes across the plate- it is swung past the plate but not over it.
  18. I'd go for that trade-off, but I think IR is essential. Just use the pitch clock, and the IR delays won't be so bad.
  19. I think the hope was that Renfroe would do well vs lefties. Sitting Renfroe vs righties works against the notion of playing Dalbec vs lefties. Sitting Verdugo for Dalbec made more sense, in terms of L-R splits, but Verdugo caught fire. At this point, I'd play Dalbec over Renfroe no matter who is pitching.
  20. Yes, on the 40, but all 9 he added last winter played on the 26. (Andriese and Marwin were axed and Santana was up and down.) In 2020, Bloom added over 26 players before and during the season to try and fill the 40 man and many ended up playing on the 26. In a 60 game season, we played 19 position players and 28 pitchers. Here were the ones added by Bloom (in order of most PAs or IP): Verdugo Pillar Peraza Plawecki Arauz Moreland (re-signed) Arroyo Munoz Puello Grullon Lucroy Perez (IP leader in '20) Weber Valdez Mazza Godley Springs Brice Osich Covey Kickham Stock Hart Pivetta (deadline add) Triggs Leyer Tapia
  21. The Sox playoff OPS have dropped, except for Devers, and here they are: 1.282 Kike (9 RBI) 1.190 JD (10) 1.126 Devers (12) .909 Bogey (only 6) .814 Verdugo (6) .786 Schwarber (6) .667 Arroyo (3) .619 Plawecki (0) 3 GIDP in just 7 PAs .606 Renfroe (1) 5 GIDP! .500 Shaw (0) .000 Dalbec & Santana ERA listed in order of most IP (2 or more IP) 5.51 Eovaldi (16.1) 2.63 Pivetta 13.2 4.97 ERod 12.2 8.00 Sale 9.0 2.16 Whitlock 8.1 4.50 Houck 8.0 5.06 Robles 5.1 9.00 Brasier 4.0 0.00 Ottavino 3.1 0.00 Taylor 3.1 12.00 Perez 3.0 4.50 Sawamura 2.0
  22. Did he get the false teeth at a dollar store?
  23. Good news!
  24. Robo umps could call a strike anytime a bat crosses the plate or goes halfway across it- whatever they want to determine a swing.
  25. Bloom was given a roster with 10-15 holes to fill, and there were over 10, last winter. It made sense to go small on multiple deals. This winter is different. We may only have about 4-5 open slots, so going larger contracts is a real possibility. How long they are remains to be seen.
