  1. And Sonny Jergunson played for the Redskins. I thought you'd support my non cancel opinion.
  2. Maybe, but these numbers tell a tale. Look at others besides Kike... PAs with RISP in 2021: 212 Devers 180 JD 161 Bogey 160 Renfroe 145 Verdugo 135 Vaz 135 Dalbec 119 Kike PAs with Men on base 341 Devers 302 JD 288 Bogey 266 Renfroe 261 Verdugo 221 Vaz 221 Dalbec 202 Kike
  3. Many of those years had plenty of joys, and I would not trade a single championship for better in between seasons. Maybe we lose a couple fans here and there, when their favorite player(s) are let go, but we've done a very good job replacing them with exciting new players rather quickly, and bring a ring every 4-5 years. We were able to do that by not getting too nostalgic about aging stars. Only Betts was let go pre-prime. When that starts to become a pattern, we'll talk again.
  4. Maybe. 2 years of Montas is much more of a known than those 18 years of prospects. I think Trivino is worth more than what BTV gives him. Montas is pretty damn good and just entering prime.
  5. The 111 loss teams are more likely to trade top players. I am in agreement on Mountcastle, but Means or Mullins would be great targets.
  6. Me, too, but I think peaks and valleys are not as bad as some think they are. The thing about Dalbec is, is he drove in a lot of runs, some even when slumping. He drove in 17 runs in May, despite a .672 OPS. He was 1 RBI below Bogey, who had 150 more PAs and 7 more XBHs. He was 5th in RBI but 8th in PAs. RBI per PA: .172 Dalbec .170 Devers .168 Renfroe .156 JD .131 Bogey .104 Verdugo .103 Kike (lead off)
  7. The second one is 18 for 6.
  8. I think we take the risk of not protecting Ward and Jimenez. While I don't see us having any major 40 man roster crunches, this winter, if we want to sign 4-5 free agents, we will be hitting a point where we have to DFA or trade some valuable players.
  9. Did we keep fans after letting Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Damon and Mueller go? Manny, Beckett & Lowell? Lester, Lackey & Ellsbury? Again, I think we'll keep Bogey or Devers- probably not both, but keep bringing us the Kike's and Whitlocks, and I'll keep watching.
  10. And, unlike JBJ, his streaky bat is not carried along by stellar defense.
  11. BTV accepted these two separate deals: (not saying I would do the second one) Duran, Downs & Seabold for Means (3 yrs) Duran, Mata, Seabold for Monats (2), Trivino (3), Piscotty (1) as a salary dump
  12. I wouldn't trade top assets for Mountcastle over someone like Montas, but he is significantly better than Dalbec, especially on defense. He's younger and had good minor league numbers (as did Dalbec.)
  13. That would be replaced with, "The league is manipulating the software to ensure the Yanks win."
  14. I seriously doubt we continuously let guys like Betts, Bogey and Devers go. Even then, if we keep winning, and add new exciting players, it may not matter as much as we might think. The 2007 Red Sox was pretty different from 2004, and 2013 was way different.
  15. You crack me up!
  16. I do think a risk of being taken factor plays a big role- same as with Jimenez. Also, we will be looking at how good our 40th player is, and how much we care about losing him. If it's Rosario or Potts, we may decide to protect Ward, but depending on how many FAs we will be adding, maybe it's a much better player.
  17. I get the fan part, and don't disagree, but if we keep having seasons like this, I don't think there will be a noticeable turning away fro supporting the Sox, because we did not spend more. There may be some fans that do, but this was one hell of a season and was below the tax line.
  18. To be honest, I don't think it will even be noticeable, except after a while, you'll start thinking, "Man, I haven't seen a bad or inconsistent call, all game!" I don't see how this can be a bad thing. People actually prefer some bad calls- just to "add a human element" to the game? That's like saying every now and again, a basketball ref can say a basket does not count, because he did not see it go through the hoop.
  19. They were when he played. I don't say Mookie plays for Brooklyn.
  20. I don't disagree, but staying right below the tax line is still spending more than all but a handful of teams. With Bloom's penchant for finding low-cost gems, we should be able to stay highly competitive when at or slightly below the tax line. My guess is, we might do that, and when the perfect storm looks like it is upon us, we will pounce and go significantly over the line to maximize a window.
  21. I totally agree, but we'd be replacing Dalbec at 1B, so I'm not sure undisciplined hitting is a step back. I also think a line-up with a variety of hitters works best. His .324 career OBP outweighs the ks and blows Dalbec's away.
  22. I'm glad we kept the undisciplined hitter, Devers.
  23. It's a human calling out "ball" or "strike," and he's getting all the calls right. I don't see how this transforms the game in a bad way, if at all.
  24. I seriously doubt we stay below the tax line for more than one more season, but who knows what the next CBA will bring.
  25. It's hard to get top talent on short deals, and signing more quantity rather than quality eventually get's your roster "too deep,: and you start losing Rule 5 guys you want to keep. Our 40 man roster has not gotten to that point, yet, but we have half the holes we had last winter, and in my estimation, about the same amount of money to spend, this winter as last. If we ever decide to go significantly over the budget, we'll be almost forced to go large and long or sign 3-4 guys at $12-18M each. (That may be next year or the following season.)
