All it takes is one GM to believe Jimenez is the best of those 20 and want him badly enough to fill the 26th man slot of their roster for a year. I don't think there is such a GM out there, and it's not worth filling a 40 man slot with him over that risk.

The interest shown in Semien, last winter, makes me think this is possible, but yes, I'd be surprised by something so big not involving a pitcher. I suppose we might sign Semien or Baez and trade Bogey for pitching.

I think, because we have Dalbec, and our budget may be restricted to the point where we feel the need to add a top quality player without adding major salary, trading Casas does border on being semi-realistic. I'd say there is a bigger chance we trade Casas than Devers. I doubt either happens.

If the budget is $220M, that's $10M more than last winter and should be enough to get one really good player and 3 moderately good one. I have 4 major holes needing to be filled from outside the system, so I would think we can improve on this year. I'm not sure how much other ALE teams will improve. Toronto is talking about spending more, and we barely finished ahead of them. I'm thinking Henry and Bloom want to improve in 2022, but maybe 2023 is the all-out year. I know an argument can be made for 2022, since Bogey has an opt out and Eovaldi & JD may have just 1 year left.

I do think we could trade Vaz and or Renfroe and improve our BAbip number without creating major holes to fill. Admittedly, it's not easy to find capable catchers, but with the $7M saved on Vaz's contract and the estimated value of Renfroe's arb saved, we can probably find better defensive players without seriously hurting our offense. Trading Bogey is much more problematic, for various reasons. Moving Devers to 1B creates too much of a bottleneck, and it seems like he should get at least one more year to show he can be a steady defender at 3B. An Arroyo-Iggy 2B should be fine.

b & fWAR are cumulative numbers. The more you play (and do well) they higher the number grows. Fangraphs: DRS 14 Kike (716 innings) 12.1 UZR/150 12 JBJ (915) 16.9 UZR/150 7 Beni (1116) 5.5 4 Betts (964) 5.6 2 Verdugo (1188) -5.4 1 Cordero (250) -0.2 -1 Renfroe (1213)-3.1 -4 Duran (223) -24.1 (worst in MLB with 200+ innings in OF) -5 Schwarber (724) -6.4 It's fair to say, Kike's CF WAR would have been much higher, had he played 155 games there.

On defense in 2021: Verdugo> Beni Kike > JBJ Betts > Renfroe The OF was not the major reason for our poor BAbip. Renfroe was a significant issue, but not enough to make the OF that much worse, on defense, than 2018. Our 1B D sucked. Our catching sucked (mostly in areas not captured by stats) Our 2B was okay. Our SS has severely limited range. Our 3Bman alternated between horrific to pretty good for long stretches. There is no easy fix, this winter. (We could trade Bogey, Vaz and/or Renfroe, but then we have a new hole to fill.) Next winter offers more hope for improvement.

No way a team like the Yanks takes a player they don't intend to ever play. It's rebuilding teams that might take a far-away player, because they believe there is a good chance they become great players.

I do think adding gloves and 4 balls and 3 strikes was a good idea. Stadiums with fences to stop the ball from rolling was pretty good, too. The more recent changes are mostly hit or miss to me. I didn't really like the DH, at first, but now I wish the NL would add it. I dislike the shift, but that was used on Ted Williams, so I guess I'm not for changing the rules to prevent that.

It's about some players making $20-35M and others $600K. Now doubt, I'd give my left nut to play 1 inning in MLB for free. With so much money being generated, is $600K really fair in this context?
