I agree, and to some extent, starters are more known commodities. We lost Ottavino, so I think keeping Houck & Whitlock in the pen makes a lot of sense.

Maybe our best chance at a FA starting pitcher is Jon Gray.

Agreed, all around. I still think we'll trade for a top 2 slot pitcher and sign a couple lower to mid cost free agents that hopefully do better than Richards/Prerez/Andriese.

Thank God, you added "Kidding." I'm glad we didn't go $44M/4 for Matz, but I did like him more than when we re-signed Perez and signed Richards.

Cards paying $44M/4 with bonuses that could add $4M. MLBTR projected $27M/3. SEA & LAA looking at Gausman. I still think we'll get our best pitcher by trade.

Sonny Gray and john Means on the block. Word is an A's starter or two are as well. I'm sure there are more. Let's see if the Sox acquire a starter by trade.

He can probably play FT LF and not embarrass himself, especially with a team like the Sox, who play half their games in Fenway

This thread sounds a lot like the recent "know-it-all" thread claiming Correa is the the young ARod that can save the Sox, but dumb Bloom doesn't know how to convince Henry to let him spend more. -
If the guy can hit, and it seems like he can, he's an easy candidate for LF or DH not utility.

I'd probably give Duran & Downs for the hope the new tacky ball will bring back some guys, like Means, that floundered late 2021. I'd do a thorough physical, too. Means can be an excellent pitcher. How many of those do we have coming up in our system?

Good stuff. It's interesting they were willing to basically see him have a third "missed year" out of 4 seasons in hopes that he comes through. I'm not sure anyone expected him to play much, let alone produce at the big league level, but he certainly seemed more capable of doing it than Jimenez is, right now.
