  1. Being pantless was his money-maker!
  2. Currently, cots has us at an estimated $181M, including the player benefits and Price's $16M. If they lower the first tax line to $180M, we're already over, unless we sign nobody and let an arb player go. If we project getting to where last year's tax line was, we'd have about $30M to spend. If we plan on going over the first line but not the second (under the current rules), we'd have just under $50M to spend. Not knowing what the spending budget will be, makes it hard to try and guess who we might sign, and Bloom might be waiting to know the new system before signing any big names. Going by MLBTR's estimates on AAV contract costs, who would you suggest the Sox sign at these specific budgets? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/top-50-mlb-free-agent-rankings.html $20M $40M $60M Without looking real hard at it, here's what I come up with off the top of my head: $20M 9 x 3 S Matz 8 x 2 A Cobb 3 x 3 Iggy $40M 14 x 4 Jon Gray 14 x 3 DeSclafini 9 x 3 Graveman 3 x 2 Iggy $60M 40 x 3 Scherzer 9 x 3 Graveman 7 x 2 Villar or 20 x 5 Baez 15 x 1 Greinke 14 x 4 J Gray 9 x 3 Graveman I know I could do better with time, but I just wanted to get some others to give their suggestions at each level.
  3. Because he has 2 years, and they can "spread it out" by trading him next winter or at the deadline.
  4. I love seeing the Yanks overpay on aging free agents. Most backfire!
  5. There are other options- better ones, and they can afford an upgrade.
  6. Yes, get it done on Jon Gray. (I wanted us to trade for him at the deadline, too.)
  7. They have so many that fit our needs that they could keep 80% and we could still get 2 helpful players. I'd focus on Montas & Trivino. Bassit & Manaea are one year guys. Less costly but less useful.
  8. I think Kershaw will not sign with the Dodgers. I agree on the rest.
  9. Here are the 6 I think the Sox will be looking at: Matz Taylor (Villar/ C Hernandez) Jon Gray DeSclafani A Cobb H Neris Here are the 6 I hope they look more closely at: Baez Scherzer J Gray Graveman Iggy Y Giomes (trade Vaz)
  10. I just read 6 pm ET. (mlb.com)
  11. Exactly. Had they got him through waivers, they would not have had to keep him on the 26 all year long. This is a rare 0% issue.
  12. 3 play the wrong positions. Rodon is the closest, but I'm thinking his price tag and years will be too much.
  13. Cordero passed through waivers.
  14. Yes, look at them all sign with other teams.
  15. Look, I agree Semien will be too costly, but you know what I meant by projected WAR - the stat you always use to make a player look better or worse. Finding the worst comp is also a favorite trick of yours, I hope the Ms sign him, and we can watch your tune change in mid note.
  16. Why not use projected WAR?
  17. Watching all these old highlights are bringing back some fond memories. Maybe the years have dulled the memories.
  18. Even the greatest possible break, route and speed can still lead to the necessity of a dive to make the play.
  19. The savings they are getting from reducing the minors should help the union's side.
  20. Fair enough. JBJ did make some diving plays, too. He mastered the triangle and other weird angles. He got a great jump on balls, almost always took the exact correct route and positioned himself correctly. Lynn was fantastic- even to the point of being recklessly great. He was all about making the catch- screw his own body! No argument on any of these guys. Beniquez, Miller, Crisp and a couple others were all close, but didn't play very long. Maybe saying Kike's last 3 months in 2021 were the best 3 months in Sox CF defense history. (The dropped ball in the playoffs would not count.)
  21. His arm was so bad, I can't place him in the top 5. Remember, Manny once cut off one of his throws!!!!
  22. It does seem like a "stock" statement many GMs use.
  23. It may be "moot," but it's a long winter, so spending a day or so on discussing the best Sox defensive CF'er can be an interesting topic.
  24. If you had to name the best defensive CF'er you have seen on the Sox, who would it be?
