  1. Just know that people trying to see the positive side of things do not always think the moves are all good ones.
  2. The point is, if he doesn't do well, he's still making more than Wacha. It's a close call, but after the Richards' gamble, I'm shying away from injury-prone pitchers. I'm not expecting Wacha to be one of our major additions, just like I did not expect Perez to be one, last winter, despite being the 3rd highest paid FA Bloom signed. I'm not expecting Wacha to do well, but he does have some promise. I'm hopeful we can find something to get him to have a better year in 2022. I know there is not mush to talk about, so this signing has been talked about more than it probably should have, but I'm trying to stay optimistic and think we have bigger pieces coming. We may sign Baez and trade for a solid #2 SP'er. Add a decent RP'er and nobody will be talking about Wacha for a while.
  3. If Kluber does well he'll make $10-12M. It's a close call, but I'm thinking the less we spend on our #5 starter, the more we might spend on our new #2 starter. That's my hope, anyway.
  4. Gausman reportedly expected to sign, soon with TOR or SFG. Scherzer expected to announce who he chooses, soon. Robbie Ray is on the top of the Angels' wish list.
  5. Rangers to sign Semien to $175M/7. That's $25M x 7. They also signed Kole Calhoun. Marlins sign Avisail Garcia to $53M/4. That's over $13M x 4. Byron Buxton agrees to extension for $100M/7. Kluber signs for $8M but can make over $4M in bonuses based on games started. Am I supposed to bash Bloom for not paying more on any of these FAs? Not!
  6. Agreed, we will cycle back up to spending large, when the time is right. I think this winter is “the right time,” but if Henry wants to wait one more year, I’ll still think he has been the best thing to happen to the Sox in my lifetime.
  7. I have no idea but I’d go Wacha. He’s cheaper, for one. Likely more innings, too. Close call. I do like Wacha better than I liked Perez, last winter. Yes, I was critical of that signing.
  8. Totally wrong.
  9. I was against bringing Perez back and giving Vaz his option. I do not agree with every move Bloom has made and have pointed out several times that 2 of his biggest 3 moves, last winter- Richards and Perez- were failures. I still have a very good overall opinion on Bloom, and I guess that irks some posters.
  10. I’ve already said I have little hope with Wacha. What more do I need to say? Do I have to bash Bloom?
  11. If this are analytics, it won't work.
  12. OK, but you have gone on and on about those of us preferring to keep Houck and Whitlock in the pen, assuming we add a quality starter or two. You've said I'm a fence-sitter, and maybe I am on Whitlock, but a lot depends on who Bloom signs next. I really like Houck as an 80-100 IP RP'er with many high leverage innings. I know he's young enough, and I think he's good enough to be a decent to good starter- maybe even great, but he's really struggled the 3rd time facing batters. The sample size is small, so these numbers are not the only story, but they are frightening, to me: Houck Career: .485 1st PA as SP (144 PAs against)/.535 as RP (39 PA) .618 2nd PA as SP (134 PAs)/ .000 as RP (just 3 PA) 1.081 3rd PA as SP (just 27 PAs) FYI: Whitlock as a RP'er: .645 1st PA (285 PAs against) If we trade for someone like Montas, I want both in the pen. If we sign a second Wacha, I'd want Whitlock in the pen, but I doubt it happens, if we sign another SP'er. We'll have... Eovaldi Sale Pivetta SP added Wacha Seabold/Winckowski/Crawford/Bello .321 2nd PA (13 PA)
  13. Exactly! What does Wacha’s last season have to do with2022? We can’t use any history to judge anything. Maybe the O’s win 100 games!
  14. You can say that about anyone. You choose to fear the worst.
  15. I’m not defending Bloom on this signing. I brought up the Perez andRichards signings as a comp and said he gets some right and some wrong and some of last years moves were highly criticised and some worked out. Bloom wa given a $40M winter budget, last year and had 10-15 slots on the 40 that were weak. He swung and missed on some, including 2 of his biggest 3 contracts. He still did a great job, though. Maybe Wacha will be a miss. Saying probably is fine with me on him. It’s only November.
  16. Is he asking for detailed analytics on Wacha’s Fenway stats?
  17. So, back to ERA- a horrible stat to use in isolation. You use onlyERA and now throw it back in our faces. Look, you don’t have convince anyone Wacha is a long shot. Yes, some are trying to spin this as best they can while you and others spin the opposite. Let the winter play out.
  18. Dude. Nobody is stirring up hate. The most emotional poster over a minor and early signing is you. No disrespect intended.
  19. You have no idea, if Tampa wants him or not. Hell, they acquired him after the same type season. They can’t even pay Snell. You think they didn’t “want” him? They can’t even afford to pay Wacha $3.5M.
  20. Look, everybody thought there was no way we could win without ERod and Sale doing very well, this year. Maybe someone else picks up the slack. Maybe not and we suck. That’s baseball. You go off expectations and hopes. Bloom is not done, but your posts have a hint of finality to them.
  21. I agreed with everything until the end. Do you know what jettison means? Both these young guys are already in the pen and doing great in a role that is becoming the new way staffs are being used. I get your point and it has merit, but please spare the omg stuff. It’s not absurd to think adding another top starter and keeping Houck and Whitlock in the pen is a good idea.
  22. Well, you only mentioned ERA and him not missing bats when he actually has a very good missed bat rate, but you don’t want to hear about analytics. I doubt many view Wacha as ERod’s replacement, and if Bloom does, then you will not be alone in thinking we will be worse, next year with our rotation.
  23. You think Bloom is done?
  24. Sale could give us 100-150 more innings, so one could view that as coming close to replacing ERod, but it still leaves a slot open. I doubt Bloom is done, so I’m waiting to grade Bloom for the winter.
  25. Maybe. He did with Perez, Richards and others. He got some right, too.
