  1. I would not be surprised if many agents are, wink-wink, "talking" with teams.
  2. Could Kike possibly play RF? JBJ is just so in tune with CF, although I'm sure he's a huge defensive up grade over Renfroe in RF. Arroyo is a bit of a wild card. It is possible for him to have a fully or near fully complete season, and that could force the choices. Like you, I would not count on Arroyo for jack, but he is on the roster and has skills. I'm thinking McCutchen would be for LF, with Verdugo maybe playing RF when McCutchen is in LF.
  3. Soxprospects.com finally placed the two prospects we obtained from Milwaukee in their rankings list. 18. Alex Binelas (after Walter and before Song) 26. David Hamilton (after Paulino and before Crawford) I thought they'd both be a bit higher, and maybe they'll move up quickly.
  4. Well, bringing up the fact that McCutchen is cheaper than Renfroe and JBJ is better defensively, but then ignoring JBJ's cost seems amiss, to me.
  5. Cheaper? JBJ+McCutchen? Vs LHP, it's sideways. I thought that was implied.
  6. I've been rather surprised at all we've found to talk about.
  7. The "Hernandez" at catcher is Ronaldo Hernandez-perhaps our most promising catching prospect. Wong might have a better chance.
  8. Bloom may get rid most or all long term deals, ut he won't stop signing 1-2 year deals, so this list is really just an in-system view.
  9. I don't disagree, but it seems like we'd just be moving sideways.
  10. We likely traded Renfroe because of his defense. I'm not sure McCutchen addresses the RF defense issue. (JBJ might, but having a RH'd bat in RF would improve the offense.)
  11. 2019-2021 32 Catchers have 600+ PAs (That says a lot, right there.) Vaszuez ranks... 16th OPS at .741, but only 7 catchers had an OPS over .780 (One just retired.) 19th in wRC+ at 94 However, when you look at the overall OPS by catchers in MLB, the league OPS has been: .713 in 2019 .695 in 2020 .696 in 2021
  12. So many gave up on the Sox, and there were enough reasons to do so. Winning 11 of our last 16 games, despite being swept by the Yanks followed by losing 2 of 3 vs Baltimore was an amazing feat. Guys like Schwarber, Iggy, Shaw, Robles, Davis and even Richards from the pen got us through some very difficult stretches. This was a memorable season from start to finish. Cora did an awesome job. Bloom filled about 15 slots on the 40 man and worked that damn taxi squad like a maniac. 23 different non pitchers got a PA in 2021. 33 no everyday players pitched for the Sox. That's 55 players! Several 40 man roster players never got called up, so think of all the turnover and taxi squad additions and subtractions made. I'm glad the 40 man roster only had a handful of glaring holes to fill, this winter.
  13. It seems to be the trend, now in the NCAA. Sad, but true.
  14. I meant the summer moves made.
  15. I do. If they are stronger then and decide to make bigger moves to get us over the hump, I can understand why they went somewhat light in2021. Was 2021 summer all that different from summer 2018?
  16. Okay, so Story played more than Baez, yet had a lower fWAR in 2021. He finished 9th in PAs. 13th in the offense component of fWAR (bogey placed 6th). 4th in the defense component (Bogey placed 1th) 4th in base running. 12th in WAR (Baez 11th and Bogey 5th) 2020-2021: 8th in fWAR at 6.0 (Bogey 4th at 7.1) 2019-2021: 4th at 12.0 (Bogey 2nd at 13.9) It helped to be 3rd in SS PAs & innings at SS. His +5.9 UZR/150 since 2019 places him 5th- just ahead of Baez. He places 2nd in DRS behind Baez, who played 500 less innings at SS: DRS (innings) 40 Baez (2420) 36 Correa (2420) 36 Story (2920)
  17. It doesn't always work, and our 2013 season was an example of not going all in and still finding a way to win, but 2018 was the prime example of realizing the window was about to start closing, and we went out and got Eovaldi & Pearce- not all that much more exciting than Schwarber, Robles & Co.
  18. Schwarber, Robles and Davis all did well, but I guess we were supposed to spend big and get some flops, instead. We later got Iggy & Shaw. One could argue, Bloom went 5 for 5.
  19. I understand that position, but I do not agree, nor do I think Sox management viewed, this past summer as the time to go all in. If we fail to make the playoffs, or look worse in the next few year than 2021, your position will look like the clearly right opinion.
