  2. I doubt any loss in ST'ing revenue matters much.
  3. There's a chance Downs may give a significant plus. Wong looks like a longer shot, but he still has some decent promise, and finding a good catcher is always a hard thing to do: the more we have- the better.
  4. I guess I just don't understand why prospects mean nothing to you. The more good ones you get, the better the odds some make it. Making deals is all about playing the odds. In theory, Betts, Price, Verdugo, JBJ and Renfroe "aren't worth anything," until we see what they do for the remaining years of team control. I was one who said pay Betts what it takes. I think I even mentioned 12 or 14 year deals. That's how much I wanted him, but I still see the trade as trading 1 year of Betts, since it looked like we weren't going to pay him. We dumped half of Price's deal along the way, at a time we were not going to need him, even if he rebounded to greatness. We got 4 years of Verdugo, salary relief (Betts and 1/2 Price) and a couple dirty words (Downs & Wong) for 1 year of Betts. Like you, I wish we got pitching, and we almost got a good one, but all-in-all, I think the deal was pretty good considering the contexts and nuances involved. I can certainly see the other side of this coin, though.
  5. Prospects is not a dirty word. FYI, I didn't like the JBJ trade. Yes, we still paid half of Price's deal, but we shed half, too. He was a sunken cost. It was good we dumped him. This has all been litigated 100 times over.
  6. Remember, it was just one year of team control vs several years of Verdugo and some promise from the prospects.
  7. Just add a keg for all double headers.
  8. I was joking.
  9. Do you work for Manfred?
  10. Indeed. Not someone you hear many people talking about.
  11. Expand the rosters to 32 and have dbl headers 2-3 times a week!
  12. Players like Renfroe are non tendered every year by the Rays.
  13. I think we all feel that way to some extent.
  14. Did many pump up his offense, last season? (Yes, some commented on his great 2nd half.)
  15. No doubt, JBJ can still defend very well. My point was designed to show that I don't think he's the same as we remembered him in his peak years (2014-2018). Yes, he put up great defensive metrics in 2021, so maybe I'm overstating that point. The fact is, his 9 year career, based on 3 year intervals, shows steady declines in UZR/150 and DRS per inning in CF. My own personal observations do not necessarily coincide with such the somewhat steep decline his metrics show. One point needs to be made concerning JBJ's defense: declining slightly from greatness can still be great. It will come down to his offense, but this whole defense discussion was geared towards Kike vs JBJ in CF or RF. If Kike plays 2B, there is no debate. If JBJ plays, he's in CF. Period. I also realize I'm basing my opinion on Kike over a rather small sample size in 2021. However, a 1500 innings sample size is pretty significant, even if scattered over 6 seasons. MLB CF'ers with 1500+ innings in CF since 2016: 16.2 Bader (39 DRS in 2881 innings) 15.1 Kiermaier (93 in 4739) 11.3 Hamilton (49 in 4517) 10.9 Kike (16 in 1532 or 1 per 96 inning) 10.7 Buxton (55 in 3664) 12. JBJ at 6.1 (43 in 6157 or 1 per 143 inning)
  16. JBJ's 3 year stretches '13-'15 11.3 UZR/150 17 DRS in 1319 innings (1 per 78 innings) '16-'18 7.4 UZR/150 29 DRS in 3717 innings (1 per 128innings) '19-'21 4.3 UZR/150 14 DRS in 2440 innings (1 per 174 innings) His defensive prime was 2014-2018 8.9 UZR/150 47 DRS in 4890 innings (1 per 104 innings)
  17. That was a single season, too. It's a tough call, but I like Kike in CF and JBJ in RF (platoon?). I'm higher on Arroyo than most here.
  18. Why the dip in Bettsless 2020?
  19. Metrics show Kike is better in CF, and he's over 2 years younger.

  21. Expanding rosters to 27 and adding 2 teams would add 84 MLB players to the daily MLB pool of players. Raise the minimum salary by a lot, and we're talking about a hell of a lot of players being much happier, despite anything else to do with lux tax limits, arb years and other issues seemingly front & center.
  22. Maybe Cora mean the American League or was just pumping Kike up.
  23. Not in my opinion, but you nailed it on the options remaining: 0 Davis 1 Valdez, Brasier 2 DHern, Taylor, Bazardo 3 Sawamura, Crawford, Winckowski
