  1. 3 out of 4 and 5 out of last 8 is encouraging.
  2. The 10 man pen helps. He may stick around when we go to 8, due to others having more options remaining than his zero. He's first on my DFA list.
  3. It was 2012. Here were the GS'd that season: 33 Lester 29 Buch 29 Doubront 21 Beckett 18 A Cook 11 Dice K 10 Bard 9 F Morelaes 2 ZStewart In 2011, we had 31 Lester, 30 Beckett, 28 Lackey, 23 Wake, 14 Buch, 12 A Miller, 8 Bedard, 7 Dice-K, 5 Weiland, 4 A Aceves.
  4. What worries me is that, league wide, pitching has been mostly over-powering. Not with our starters. Our team ERA- is 97 (17th place), but our starters are at 114 (curiously only 18th).
  5. Did I miss something? Is he doing well?
  6. He's out of options, so it's DFA or IL or nobody claims him on waivers and he returns in the minors.
  7. I'm more impressed with Sawamura, this year than last. According to soxprospects.com, these are the options remaining: 0 Davis Strahm Diekman Robles 1 Brasier Valdez Danish 2 Taylor DHern 3 Sawamura Crawford
  8. He only got 2 PAs on his return. Not a gimmick, like Minnie, but not like Bard, either.
  9. That's why I said I wasn't sure it should count.
  10. Big Nate is almost at his career high for Pitches per PA at 4.18. His career mark is 3.88. Sox Pitchers: 4.73 Diekman 4.47 Brasier 4.39 Houck 4.35 Davis 4.33 Valdez 4.32 Wacha 4.18 Eovaldi 4.05 Sawamura & Strahm 4.04 Crawford 3.88 League avg 3.86 Pivetta 3.75 Hill 3.64 barnes 3.56 Robles 3.40 Whitlock
  11. Minnie Minoso missed almost 2 seasons at ages 23-24, then was out of baseball for 11 years before returning at age 50, but he just got 8 PAs (1 hit). He then came back 4 years later, at age 54 for 2 PAs. Not sure this should really count, but it is interesting.
  12. Still some impressive K:BB ratios on the farm: 12:0 Walter 11 IP 16:1 Pannone 13.2 18:2 Bello 10 13:3 Murphy 9 14:4 DHern 8.2 Top OPS with 35+ ABs 1.369 Fitzy 4 taters 1.269 Lugo 1.255 Rafaela 5 taters 1.151 Refsnyder 1.074 Cordero 3 taters 1.066 Binelas 4 taters 1.000 Hamilton .997 Y Sanchez .984 Casas 3 taters
  13. Agreed. When I first saw his name in the box scores, I did a doubt take and checked if it was someone with the same name.
  14. Impressive that he came back or impressive with his performance? 1.22 WHIP w BOS 2009-2013 1.47 WHIP w COL 2020-2022 I'm not sure I'd count his 6 IP in 2022 (.083 WHIP) as "impressive." It was 1.52 his previous 2 years w COL.
  15. His free swinging nature is what makes him great. It doesn't work for most players, but it helps having a different approach in every line-up. If the kid had a bad OBP, I'd be worried, but he's at a career .338 mark and has been at .349 since 2019 (ages 22-25.)
  16. True! It was also nice to see Big Nate settle down after a shaky looking start.
  17. I think the 15 pitchers for the month of April will lessen the "burnout" factor, especially since Cora is using them all. Only the use of Whitlock concerns me, as this is pretty much uncharted territory since Bob Stanley.
  18. Like Bobby V is someone anyone should listen to. Blind squirrel on this one. Bard wanted to start, badly. It's as much on him as Sox management, things went south so quickly.
  19. It had the feel of a heartbreaking loss filled with missed opportunities, but Big Nate settled down, and the pen was superb.
  20. RHP Nick Pivetta (9.39) vs RHP Jose Berrios (11.81) Keep the mojo risin'!
  21. I remember during the pre-Henry days, we'd lose a lot of games where we outhit the opponents by 4 or more hits. It's nice to see us pull one out while being outhit 8 to 3. (And, no taters tots were needed.)
  22. Don't change a thing! I'm convinced teams with a variety of batting approaches win more often.
  23. Well, we had Whitlock on the mound. It wasn't rocket science.
  24. We've heard some criticism of Cora's pen moves over the first 11 games, but to me, the guy works wonders with these guys. Our pen has saved our asses, thus far.
