  1. This kid can field. If his bat improves, we might see something special, someday.
  2. Probably, yes, but we did trade Nomar in the heat of a ring run.
  3. Yes, too early to know, for sure, but the numbers don't seem to show anything all that exciting, except the K-rate. 2018-2022 26.3 K% (best) .228 BA against (best) 10.2 BB% (second worst) 16.1 K-BB% (Tied second best) 1,30 WHIP (second best) 101 ERA- (second worst) 3.96 xFIP (second best) 3.48 SIERA (Best)
  4. What is an elite return? Some teams pay a lot for 2 month rentals they think can put them over the top. We got Pivetta and Seabold for 2 months of Workman & Hembree. We got ERod for 2 moths of Andrew Miller. There are worse examples, for sure, but we should get something pretty nice. If we end up trading Bogey, do we go all out and trade Big Nate and JD, too?
  5. It need not be to a team looking to keep him, large and long. It just needs to be a team he agrees to waive his no trade contract to go to.
  6. That rubbed me the wrong way, too. I have been thinking they are setting Bogey up to agree to waive his no trade clause at the deadline.
  7. We have a few pitchers with shocking K:BB ratios, so far!
  8. I think the modern style is to look at BB% and K% not BB/9 or K/9, and it makes a ton of sense. If pitcher A K's 2 in an inning where he lets up 1 H and 1 BB and gets a no K out, he K's 2 every 5 batters, and walks one every 5 batters. Play B might get 2 K's, but allow 2 hits and 1 BB and a non K out. He K's 2 every 6 batters. They both have 2K/IP and 1 BB/IP, but pitcher A has a 40% K rate, while B has a 33% K rate. (Player B has a 16.5% BB rate, while A has a 20% BB rate.) Then, there is K%- BB%!
  9. If the criteria was something like what I suggested, maybe people would pay more attention to that number and percentage.
  10. He'll probably get over $95M/4, more likely $110M/5. I'd love to bring him back, but it's hard to know how good and how healthy he'll be as he ages. His health has been much better, for us, but he's still missed some time.
  11. Oh, I understand that, but the tendency is to stick with something forever, even when obvious adjustments make sense.
  12. I think Bloom values defense more than most fans do, and I also think many Sox fans overvalue Bogey's "steady D." I really think that is why Story got this offer, and Bogey got that offer. I honestly think Bloom will not raise his offer to meet, let alone exceed, Story's deal.
  13. I wanna get me one!
  14. Not really. He has one of MLB's highest K;IP ratio in history. 19 Ks in about 12 IP is right in line with his career, and 6 BBs in 12 IP is about right, too.
  15. Think about big extensions given to our own pitchers, too. How many have worked out very well? Lester's did, but was that just arb years covered? Beckett's was not bad. Then, there is Buch, Porcello, Sale and others with some good and some not so good.
  16. Isn't 8 IP and 4 ERs even better? It is 4.50, as well. Isn't 5.2 IP and 0-3 ERs better, too? Why does it have to remain so arbitrary? I realize that setting up new parameters will be arbitrary, as well, but it will be fairer and more accurate. Something like this: 4 IP 0-1 ERs 5 IP 0-2 ERs 6 IP 0-3 ERs 8 IP 0-4 ERs (One could argue 3 IP and 0 ER as being included, especially with today's trends, but I'd be fine with leaving that one out.)
  17. Robo balls and strikes will be quick and more importantly, consistent. The home plate ump can even yell out "Strike" or "ball," if that's what MLB wants to do. I just don't get the fear and loathing surrounding robo umps.
  18. Why $30M? $24M will beat the Sox offer.
  19. How about these K:BB ratios? 18:0 Walter (17 IP) 11:0 Pannone (9.2 IP) 8:0 Padron-Artilles (6.0 IP) 6:0 German (3.0 IP) 11:1 J Webb (4.1 IP) 10:1 Bello (5.0 IP) 19:6 DHern (11.2)
  20. DHern started for WOO. He did walk 2 in 3IP but just 1 H and O ERs (5 Ks of the staff's 16!) 13 Runs scored" Casas 3-4 w BB Fitzy 2-5 w 3B Refsnyder 2-4 w HR, 2B & BB Cordero 2-4 w BB Ramos 202 w HR Grullon 2-3 AA Walter remains unscored upon and walked zero again (6 IP 3 H) on the season... 17 IP 6 H 0 ER 0 BB 18K
  21. The ump can't even see the whole strike zone, so there is that, too.
  22. You can say that, again... and again.
  23. I think he pulled him at the right time, too. Ialso like how we are using Whitlock, and suggested something like this, not long ago.
  24. It's 50-50 because he's on the 40, Mata's on the IL and some of our starters have been known to be fragile, not because I think he's great.
  25. That's not soon enough.
