  1. If you saw his last 2.2 IP, you might have thought he looked okay. It was his first 1.1 IP that did him and the Sox in.
  2. WAR speaks for itself, too. If you just read what it is.
  3. You never said that, and no they don't. The game scorer decides what's a hit. Park dimensions often decide what's a homer. OPS, one you mentioned as a choice, double counts some stats. Just defend you statements with supporting details. That's something we teach in middle school.
  4. and truthful, yes.
  5. You need to take a course in logic. All I said was that SP'ers were not as hit and miss as RP'ers. I never said it was better money spent. You read too much into simple statements.
  6. We'd be in great shape without Eovaldi. That makes total sense. I concede. You win. IMO, we should trade for starters. It works better for us, but that doesn't change the fact that starters don't miss as much as RP'ers. I'e also said, I'd rather we signed one better pitcher than 2-3 question marks- like Perez & Richards, last year and Paxton, Wacha and Hill, this year. (I was actually against signing most of the best FA pitchers, this year, because I did not see any "wow" starters, except for Scherzer and Verlander on shorter deals.)
  7. Where would JD have batted, if healthy? I say 4th and everyone else moves down a notch. I kinda like Kike 6th, until he heats it up when summer rolls in, then, maybe move him to 2nd or 5th.
  8. I never mentioned anything about the cost of a flopping SP'er outweighing that of RP'ers, just the hit-or-miss factor.
  9. Where did I say signing starters was a sure bet? I just inferred they were less hit or miss than RP'ers. The Sox examples are not indicative of MLB, as a whole, and counting just free agents, like I think the debate was referencing, discounts the Beckett, Pedro, Porcello and many other extensions, but here are our biggest FA pitching singings: Eovaldi -Good Price- Not so good, but some argue otherwise Lackey- Pretty good Dempster- Many thought it worked out fine Clement- disaster If you want to count Paxton, Richards & Masterson, then is skews downward. Look, lots of SP'ers flopped or got hurt, too, but I think significantly more did better than top FA RP'ers did over the last 4-6 years.
  10. You want ERAs or OPS against for 75% or more of the names I listed? You know most sucked, but you won't admit it.
  11. I thought the names spoke for themselves.
  12. Explain why they are better. That's how a discussion works.
  13. If they are going to pay players on performance, is HRs or BA or OPS or DRS better?
  14. What have you provided other than illusions?
  15. How many reached even 75% of expectations?
  16. I hear you. The idea was Sale would replace Wacha or Hill, and Paxton the other. While having Houck and Whitlock start fix that problem, I'm not sure the pen can withstand the loss of both. Adding Hill and Wacha to the pen might work, but maybe not.
  17. I'd be fine, if someone came up with some sort of formula that beats the two WARs or is even comparable, but I'm waiting for someone to offer a better choice. Crickets...
  18. I just did, and it was you who called it a "myth." Tell us why.
  19. Can anyone defend another stat or metric?
  20. I have to admit, I was one of, if not the first to give up on the 2019 team. I caught some flack for that, but I think it was at least after Memorial Day. Sometimes, you just get a gut feeling- good or bad- on that year's team. I can't tell much about this one, so far, and with Sale, Paxton and Taylor due back, at some point, and the short ST'ing, so much seems up in the air.
  21. Got any proof? We're talking FA RP'er, right? Biggest RP'er contracts 20-21 54/3 L Hendricks 18/2 Treinen 16/2 T May 13/2 P Baez 11/1 Rosenthal 11/1 Hand 19-20 40/3 W Smith 34/4 Pomeranz 24/3 W Harris 14/2 C Martin 11/1 D Hudson 11/1 Betances 10/1 Treinen 18-19 43/3 Kimbrel 39/3 Britton 30/3 Familia 27/3 Ottavino 25/2 A Miller 25/3 J Kelly 23/2 D Robertson 18/2 Herrera 15/2 Soria 10/2 J Wilson 17-18 52/3 W Davis 28/2 M Minor 27/3 B Shaw 27/3 J McGee 21/2 Morrow 18/2 T Hunter 17/2 Nicasio 17/2 A Reed 16/2 Neshek 15/2 J Smith 14/2 Swarzak 14/1 G Holland 13/2 Cishek 11/2 Gregrson 16-17 86/5 Chapman 80/5 Jansen 62/4 Melancon 31/3 Cecil 19/3 Dunn 16/2 Ziegler 12/2 Wood & Tazawa 11/2 Rzepczynski, D Hudson & Casilla I know the top FA SP'ers have often failed, too, but show me they failed more than these clowns!
  22. I'm always for upgrading the rotation, but some of these prices are just beyond overpays. BTW, we are paying a lot for our starters: $25.6 Sale $17.0 Eovaldi $10.0 Paxton $7.00 Wacha $5.00 Hill $2.65 Pivetta That's over $67M. If you count Price's $16M, we're at $83M, which is over a third of our total player budget of about $225M.
  23. I realise many starters “miss” too, but so do more good RPers. Even the really good ones underperform, too often. Are you saying we should pay for a top closer?
  24. Relievers are too hit and miss. I prefer spending on starters.
  25. Awards? LOL! OPS ignores defense and running and double counts some achievements. To me, an average of bWAR and fWAR looks to be as good or better than anything else.
