  1. I think it will be the 2024 reset.
  2. I doubt any team will have a speedster with no other skills on their 26 man roster. Hamilton needs to up his OBP (.332) or SLG (.397). He turns 25, soon, so I'm not sure how much he can improve. He has been hot, lately. He has 66 SBs and 8 CS. Abreu is another story. The 23 year old has 110 BBs in 124 games, this year. He has a .398 OBP (.366 career) and a decent SLG on .426 with 17 HRs and 45 XBHs in 437 ABs. He has 29 SBs and 3 CS. Before this year, he had 31 SBs and 27 CS, so I'm not sure what he is doing differently, now. Max Ferguson, another trade pick-up, is also 23 and has 61 SBs with just 5 CS. He walks a lot, too (96 BBs and a .366 OBP.) His SLG is about as low as can be (.339), and his .214 BA is worrisome, but if he can walk 96 times in the bigs, he'll make it. Rafaela does it all and has 27 SBs with 5 CS. Kier Meredith has 25 SBs and 0 CS!
  3. Let's not use the word "fair" when talking about Sosa. He probably sucked at ages 20-23, because he wasn't using PEDs, then.
  4. I'm sticking with Wolverines. Their logo could use a make-over.
  5. Yes, a flawed 2 dimensional one, at that. The robo ump would be able to detect any ball going through the 3 dimensional prism. Consistent. Fair. Instant. Unnoticeable, if they choose it to be.
  6. There will be no racially centered law suits against a robo ump.
  7. I've suggested the type of trades that might be the only way we can get an ace without overpaying an aging FA. I rarely include Mayer, Bleis or Bello. I'm not "for" many of the trades I suggest, and I'm certainly not for making 2-3 trades of the trades I mention or depleting the farm. I'm for one "splash trade" that might involve Casas or two from Yorke, Rafaela, Mata, Walter, Paulino or Wikelman. I don't think we get an ace without doing so. Show me a trade without the top 5-6 that gets us an ace, and I'm on board. I wouldn't mind two trades that don't include Casas, Mayer, Rafaela, Bleis or Bello, but I doubt we can get an ace without one of these guys. I thought I have been clear about my wishes. I am never for emptying the farm, but I'm okay with a trade or two, here and there, when needed. I'd prefer to wait until the time seems "more right," but I get the feeling Sox management will try hard to make 2023 more than just pretty good on paper. I'd prefer we not spend huge and then force a reset in a year or two. If JH wants to commit to spending big for several years in a row, I'd be more than just happy to not trade any major prospects, at all. I just don't see that happening, do you?
  8. I guess those kind of poach signings aren't ever in the media.
  9. And Theo now wants to "tame the monster he helped create."
  10. Yes, I understand, and I'm sure you are aware of a poster or two who not only dislike advance metrics and analytics but act like those who do are missing out on other aspects or enjoyments of the game we all love dearly.
  11. There is still a couple weeks left to the minor league season, but certainly some feeling for how good (or bad) some of our prospects has been gained. Yes, some injuries have kept us from knowing much more about Yorke and a few others. As many prospects have jumped in the rankings, many others have fallen, some more out of attrition & graduating prospects than poor production. Duran (#4 to start '22) graduated and lost value. Winckowski (#12) graduated and didn't show much promise in the bigs. Crawford (16) graduated and has shown he may stick as a swingman or long RP'er. I think the end of year rankings will show some huge jumps by Rafaela , Paulino, Wong, Lugo, Perales, Hickey, Kavadas, German, Drohan and Rodriguez-Crus. We also have added some top prospects by draft, IFA and trades. Here are a few- ranked, currently: 9. Romero (draft) 11. Anthony (draft) 14. E Valdez (trade) 21. Coffey (draft) 22. Wilyer "Mr. Walk" Abreu (trade) 30. Brannon (draft)
  12. Let’s help knock the Yanks out of first place!
  13. But you can replace them with machines.
  14. Go on pretending you don’t know what I mean.
  15. You know what I find amusing? How some posters think fans that are into stats can't enjoy the game like not stat fans can or do. This pretty much sums it up and make me chuckle.. Mikey Metsguy: " Hey Ferdie, did you catch the end of the Mets' game last night ? Diaz entrance to trumpets blaring , then he struck out the side to end it. Very exciting. " Ferdie Nerdwell: " No , I was on fangraphs , checking all the fWAR ratings . Then I was on BTV , seeing if they would accept my trade proposals. " Mikey : " You missed all the fun again. Diaz picked up his 29th save." Ferdie: " No, I had fun. Besides, saves are overrated. " Mikey: " Okay. See you around, Ferdie.
  16. Sale did great for us. The trade worked well. The extension has not.
  17. I thought we overpaid for Kimbrel, at the time, because he was making close to FA salary, but soon after the trade, the cost of good closers went through the roof. It was a good move, but let's not pretend Margot could not be helping the team this year. He's 10 times better than JBJ. I'm fine with trading prospects. I started my "Chris Freakin' Sale" thing the day of the trade. I just don't want to empty the farm to win in 2023. Moderation is the key. When Theo left the Sox, he spoke of how he got away from that balance.
  18. I loved the Sale trade. I have no beef with DD, at all. We went all in, and it was great. Now, we pay the price.
  19. Probably the next 3-4 might not be missed either.
  20. No, but it kind of counters the point about his home field inflating his stats.
  21. Maybe he thinks he was the only guy we need. I've always wondered who these guys are in other teams' organizations that keep finding/developing stud pitchers, year-after-year.
  22. I think Bloom might be pushed into trading a prospect or two. I'd really like to keep Mayer, Bello, Bleis and Rafaela, if possible. I like Casas, a lot, but if he could get us an ace, I'd do it. I know trading Yorke when his stock has dipped a little may not be a great idea, but I have him behind the 5 I just listed. We can't get an ace by trading 3 from Mata, Walter, Paulino and Wikelman, IMO.
  23. He was already DFA'd.
  24. That class did not perform like expected, but that doesn't mean this one is the same. That being said, I wish we had Kopech, Margot, Moncada (when healthy) and maybe a couple others I can't think of. The budget might still be near the same. The only difference is we lose so much salary, this winter, it will seem like we are spending much more. (We have some good shoes to fill, too.)
  25. It seems like ND beat Michigan more than they lost, so maybe that's why I don't really dislike them, and hey, The Wolverines is one of the coolest names for a team, right?
