  1. Soxprospects.com podcast said Brez has signed 13 top 20 prospects to 11 by DD at this point in his tenure. This was before the Contreras deal was announce, so add one for Fajardo. (Dobbins had graduated)
  2. No more than the average business owner is.
  3. SOXPROSPECTS.com has Crawford, Sandoval and Casas beginning the 2026 season on the IL. (Houck will be moved to the 60 Day IL once the season starts.) They used to have Rafaela at 2B, but he's back in CF again.
  4. I think two things are near certainties before opening day: 1. We trade an OF'er. 2. We add a 2Bman or 3Bman. Maybe... To PIT: Rafaela (38) Mullins (3) & Hicks (-18) owed $24M/2 To HOU: Hunter Barco (16) To BOS: Paredes (11) Bennett Sousa (5 and a LHP) & M Keller (9) owed $56M/3
  5. I think the financial limitations may not be the tax line, but rather no large and long deals. We may have $20-26M to spend, yet.
  6. Although another move or two are likely, here is what we have, right now: 1. L Duran DH 2. L Anthony LF 3 R Contreras 1B 4. L Abreu RF 5. R Story SS 6. R Romy 2B (L DHam) 7. L Mayer 3B (R Romy) 8. R Narvaez C 9. R Rafaela CF Bench: Wong, Campbell, Yoshida/Casas, DHam SP: Crochet, Gray, Bello, Oviedo, Sandoval/Crawford/Harrison (Tolle/Early) RP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Watson, Hicks, Kelly, SP or Moran This is not a better team than 2025.
  7. His bat has been better than Bregman, Bichette and Suarez, so those thinking this dumpster diving are misinformed.
  8. He hit .800 in 2024- just one year ago, but he did miss a lot of time. .856 in 2023 was nice. That will be 3 years ago after 2026 is over. I do agree, his trade value is too low to move him. We need 1B depth and a power bat, so he may fill one or both needs in '26.
  9. I had hoped we'd trade an OF'er and make room for Ref, but we do have K Campbell.
  10. Lots of talk down here in HOU that Paredes will be traded. Nobody wants Walker. Altuve sucks in LF. Pena is a keeper. Correa is going to play 3B. They have Yordan to DH and avoid injury. HOU needs an OF'er. Some are saying the Sox want too much for Duran, Abreu or Rafaela, so maybe there is a match.
  11. He's not the Power bat I wanted, but we could still add that. He's a pretty good hitter, as you point out, and his defense was pretty good, too. 2022-2025 OPS+ (OBP/SLG) 134 Schwarber (.349/.507) 134 Alonso (.337/.501) 133 KMarte (.357/.492) 126 Contreras (.356/.461) 126 Bregman (.351/.451) 118 Suarez (.318/.461) 118 Bichette (.333/.453)
  12. Contreras by sample sizes: .793 2024-2025 (43rd out of 155 w 900+ PAs) .817 2023-2025 (26th with 1400+ PAs) .813 2022-2025 (Only 22 players had a better OPS and more PAs) .809 2021-2025 (Only 23 players had a better OPS and more PAs)
  13. Breggie might be why they passed on Alonso. I think Breggie goes to TOR, if they pass on Bichette or NYM. TOR is all in.
  14. Yes, and when you looked at our projected SP'ers from the A to MLB levels, we had a surplus of more than 5, so this makes sense, to me I question the Bernardino trade, but something happened, last season that turned Brez & Cora off. I liked Dobbins, Clarke and some others, and I still though Perales has giant upside, but Fajardo is the guy I hated seeing traded. Sonny Gray certainly rates to be a better 2026 pitcher than any ones we traded. Oviedo might be, too. Watson, Samaniego and Bennett all have various levels of promise- not as much as Fajardo, Clarke & Dobbins and maybe Perales, but we should still be a big plus on SP'er depth at the ML level down to A+.
  15. Some GM will give Breggie 4 and maybe even 5.
  16. If we trade Duran or Rafaela as part of getting Marte, the financial cost will be less than $10M AAV. If we don't get Marte, my guess is we sign Okamoto or E Suarez or trade for Paredes, Vientos or Donovan. HOU really wants an OF'er. The NYMs seem to not want Vientos. The Cardinals seem to want all our players, so why not one more STL-BOS trade? Imagine we go the whole winter with no significant FA signing!
  17. Agreed. I guess is Narvaez hits much worse in 2026, we may want to PH for our catchers, but we shouldn't need the third one very often, unless an injury happens.
  18. The history of the largest and longest deals is not very good. The Sox history is even worse, especially if you view Nate's re-signing as not really a FA deal. Under JH and over $70M and 3+ years 2023 Yoshida (Pretty damn bad) 2022 Story (Not good) 2018 JD Martinez (Very good) 2016 Price (Not good.) 2015 Sandoval & HRam (Both were awful) 2011 Carl Crawford (Yuck-a-doodle-doo-doo!) 2010 Lackey (Not good) We are 1 for 7 on the L & L deals under JH.
  19. There is still time for more toe-dipping or a high dive. (Hopefully no belly-flops!)
  20. If we did not have 2-3 holes, I'd agree on keeping depth. I don't want Duran to DH, either. He's worth more to all 30 teams as an OF'er than as a DH. If we didn't have Masa and Tristian to DH, I might be kinda okay with DH'ing Duran, but we have both. I also see Campbell and Masa as LF depth, so I think trading an OF'er has to happen. We need a 2Bman or 3Bman. Both, if you don't trust Mayer/Romy/DHam/Sogard. IMO, we still need a #2, but I doubt we get one.
  21. I think in an emergency, yes. STL has some nice catcher depth, and they had 4 catchers get 100+ innings in 2025, but WC got zero.
  22. I share your deep concern on large and long contracts, and also not about saving JH money, but about knowing we always have a limited budget and wasting money will hurt us for years to come. I plan on living longer than the longest contract we have signed or will sign. I'm thinking a big bat is a higher priority than a #2 SP. I'm wondering if Brez sees Gray as the #2 or if Gray + Oviedo makes up for not getting a true #2. (If you go by fWAR and projected fWAR, Gray has been and will be a top 60 SP'er- even a top 30 in some categories.) We have made a ton of trades, so far, and still have 4 OF'ers plus Campbell/Masa as OF depth. We may be looking at the biggest winter trade yet to come, or perhaps a major signing. Maybe both. I think we will avoid a large and long deal, so maybe E Suarez or C Bassitt might be the one signing we make. Trades might involve KMarte, Paredes, Donovan, Vientos or someone we never thought of.
  23. The Sox have traded away these prospects, this winter: 4. Perales (for #6 Bennett) 6. Jh Garcia (Oviedo and #29 Samaniego & #31 Guzman) 8. Clarke (with Fitts for S Gray) 8. Fajardo (w Dobbins & Aita for Contreras) 20. Travieso (w Jg Garcia for Oviedo plus) 21. Paez (Rule 5 loss- not a trade) 36. Aita (w others for Contreras) All together, we traded these 13 players & prospects: Dobbins, Fitts, Bernardino, Grissom, Murphy, Guerrero, Jh Garcia, Perales, Clarke, Fajardo, Travieso, Aita & Reimer For these 12 players and prospects: Sonny Gray, Wilson Contreras, Johan Oviedo, Ryan Watson, Tristan Gray, Jake Bennett, Tyler Samaniego, Adonys Guzman, Ronny Hernandez, Braiden Ward, Luke Heyman & Isaiah Jackson No free agents signings, so far- the only AL team in that boat.
