  1. One would expect the GM from 4-7 years ago to have more top prospects than the one from 0-3 years ago, due to aging and development, and I'm pretty sure DD added better prospects than many of expected he did when he left, and even a year or two beyond his departure. Here are the top prospects there were in the system before DD and added by DD during his time, here: Graduated (date became a non prospect) Devers 9/17 Brasier 8/18 Taylor 8/19 DHern 9/19 Dalbec 5/21 Houck 9/21 Duran 7/22 Crawford 8/22 Bello 10/22 Still prospects (pre-Bloom) w current soxprospects rankings 2. Casas 4. Rafaela 6. Mata 8. Walter 9. Paulino 12. Murphy 13. Wikelman 15. Perales 17. Lugo 18. TWard 19. Bonaci Bloom prospects of acquired when prospects: Graduated: Whitlock 6/21 Winckowski 9/22 Still prospects (current soxprospects ranking) 1. Mayer 3. Bleis 5. Yorke 7. Romero 10. Anthony 11. Wong 14. E Valdez 16. Jordan 20. Hickey 21. Coffey 22. Kavadas 23. Seabold 24. Downs 25. Rodriguez-Cruz 26. Abreu 27. German 28. Drohan 29. Kelly 30. Brannon 31. J Paez 32. R Hern 33. Binelas 34. McDonough 35. Uberstine This is not even close to "decimation" or "emptying."
  2. I'm one who has no beef with DD bring us 2 first place finishes and the best season the Sox have ever had, but think we also went overboard in trading prospects. I, too, agree it is ******** to say he decimated or emptied the farm. Devers, alone exposed that exaggeration. A couple posters, maybe 3 or 4, in moments of hyperbolic rants have said he "decimated" or "emptied" the farm. I'm not sure why we are going on an on about this. DD traded over 20 prospects, who at one time or another were top 20 on soxprospects.com. Many had already lost value, when traded. Many had hyped value when traded, and never met the promise they had when traded. A few have done okay or better than okay. A few are still pending to some degree. In hindsight, the trades were worth it, but let's not shortchange the affect, even if less than many think it is, on the current team and farm value. We basically have nobody left from those trades, but a lot of glory to show from many of them. We'd also be better, right now with Kopech, Moncada, Margot, Beeks, and a few others. We'd also be better, if DD was handed a better farm or drafted/signed IFA better than he did. I think he did better than I expected when drafting so lowly and having penalties on IFA signings and restricted bonus pool money due to winning so damn much. All we need to do is look at who our farm has produced since Devers was called up in 2017. That's over 5 years ago. Let's not pretend the farm has been a big help since then. Even if you count the DD prospects trades after the Devers call-up as prospects that helped us, that list is short and nearly insignificant, excpet for maybe Beeks for Nate.
  3. .426>.599>.438 ('12-'14) .481>.574 ('15-'16) .667>.519 ('18'19) not quite .600 to .400 but still a .148 drop followed by .400 in '20. .400>.568 ('20-'21) Not exactly .400 to .600 or ,600 to .400 but not are for us.
  4. Except for our beloved team.
  5. Just Baseball's End of Year Rankings: 18. Casas 21. Mayer 81. Rafaela 3 NYY: 12, 35, 59 5 TBR: 25, 34, 75, 77, 83 2 TOR: 5, 13 6 BAL: 2, 3, 23, 29, 67, 89 Bleacher Report updated Sep 9th: 13. Mayer 35. Casas 43. Bello 98. Rafaela
  6. I wish I has mentioned those AL East crowns.
  7. Would this be a realistic plan to make us competitive in 2023, while also looking beyond '23 and hopefully helping there as well, despite giving up some prospects: 1. Trade Rafaela, Yorke, Wikelman & Hosmer to MIA for Luzardo and Berti 2. Sign Nimmo 3. Sign Swanson 4. Sign Fulmer and Montero 5. QO accepted by Wacha 6. No Paxton or Pham options 2023 Sox SP: Sale, Wacha, Luzado, Pivetta, Bello LR: Crawford SR: Whitlock, Houck, Fulmer, Montero, Scheiber, Barnes, Taylor C: McGuire/Wong 1B: Casas 2B: Story 3B: Devers SS: Swanson LF: Verdugo CF: Kike RF: Nimmo SH/UT: Arroyo, Berti, Refsnyder, Dalbec
  8. We wasted 2 years on Price before that 2018 ring, too, although we did finish in 1st place in 2016 & 2017.
  9. I get the feeling over 15 teams will be knocking loudly on Miami's door. We will have to match or exceed every other offer.
  10. I actually think the plan was to try and make the playoffs, this year, with Story's help, but the higher priority was beyond 2023 and Story fit in those plans as well.
  11. You obviously are not talking about me. I wanted us to trade for Montas and sign Baez & Suzuki, last winter, among many other great plans..
  12. Exactly the words I used, but if it placates the restless fans for 2023, maybe it serves that purpose. One could say we "wasted" a year of Story (maybe two), but it did quiet the complainers a tiny bit for a brief period of time.
  13. I knew he pitched very well vs the Sox, but I did not recall, if he actually got credited with the win or was pulled in a 1-1 score game of before 5 IP. Who gets the win is not always the most deserving.
  14. Having the #4 pick really helped us, on paper, so far (w the Mayer pick.)
  15. Well, maybe two reasons I can think of: 1. To at least give the perception we are trying to win in 2023. 2. If we sign him for 2 or more years, he will help in 2024 and beyond, too. (kinda like Story was for the here and now and beyond.
  16. I could have sworn they said playoffs, but maybe my ears are going the way of my eyes. I thought it sounded weird.
  17. Just the Sox, for the most part.
  18. He might need a slight arm twist to do a Sale-type deal. The other factor is when they feel the highly competitive window is open. If they think it begins in 2024, they may not trade for a pitcher with 2-3 years of control, because they sort of "waste" one year, but if it helps boost ticket sales and NESN viewership, maybe that tips the balance, otherwise, they may wait till 2024 to make a splash trade. The SP'er FA market is to risky and squishy to commit big money and long years. I may sound like broken record, but I like notin's idea on pen arms to add, try to bring Wacha back on a QO, sign Nimmo and maybe Bogey or Swanson, and see if we can reset in 2023 doing that. Extend Devers but with the contract not putting us over in 2023, so the extension begins in 2024. (Maybe we'd need to go with Swanson over Boget to reset, unless we dump salary, somehow and somewhere.
  19. I agree, and I have been been openly calling for a major prospects for solid pitcher trade. but nothing like the scale of DD's 2+ year trading swirl.
  20. I guess the Houston radio talk show hosts are as bad as Boston's. I heard it this morning, but I should have checked it our, first.
  21. One clue that shows building up the farm is one of our top priorities is the fact that Bloom has traded very few known prospects (Groome for Hosmer and 2 prospects) and Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber. He has also made many trades bringing prospects to the Sox, some beyond July rental sell-offs. Betts for Dugo (not a prospect) and Downs & Wong Beni for Cordero (not a prospect), Winckowski and 3 lower level prospects. Nothing for Ottavino (and his contract) & German Renfroe for JBJ (not a prospect) and Binelas & Hamilton Some notable deadline deals that brought some prospects: Workman & Hembree for Pivetta (not a prospect) & Seabold Pillar for J Wallace Moreland for Potts and JRosario Mazza & Springs for RHern Cash for AAlmonte Vazquez for EValdez & WAbreu Groome for Hosmer (not a prospect) and Ferguson & Rosier (mentioned above)
  22. Verlander has zero playoff wins, despite 30 playoff GS'd and a 3.40 post season ERA and 1.07 WHIP.
  23. True, but MVP was asking so mething else. He might trade Mata & DHern for Kopech, but would he trade Houck and Bello? Houck & Mata? Bello & Mata? While many in the system were unknown or too far away to know much, DD did seem to keep many of the right ones. No doubt, having Kopech, margot, Moncada and others would make us better than the current Sale, Nate, Kimbrell and Pomeranz, but the fact is, DD did not "decimate" the farm. The farm handed to him was over-rated and weak. He did very little to improve it, except that his draftees and IFA signings have outperformed expectations, so far. Houck is about the only one to do anything at the ML level, so far, but a lot, including Casas, Bello, Mata and Walter are knocking on the door. Bloom's additions should not be expected to be making ML appearances for another year or two, but he did bring us Whitlock via Rule 5 and a bunch of near ML ready prospects via trades, some who have not shown much hope, like Wink, Seabold & Downs, but Wong has shown some glimmer of hope, and others are still rising on the farm.
  24. Paxton, too, but we expected 3-4 months for him. We got 6+. Even some of their replacements went on brief IL stints, as did spot starters Houck and Whitlock. It was a total pitcher- IL cluster you-know-what.
