  1. It’s buried somewhere in the Part I thread, but good idea. I’m at the Astros parade, now. They cancelled school, today. Does Boston do that?
  2. Someone else might overpay the Mets overpay.
  3. Walter, Mata, Ward, Perales, and Wikelman, yes. Murphy? Maybe.
  4. Murphy is sure to fall in the next rankings.
  5. Okay, but you mentioned Hand and Robertson, neither of whom were sure bets at the start of 2021.
  6. Agreed. Spending on 1B/DH just dilutes the amount we can spend on higher need areas. It's also easier to find a cheap 1B/DH at the deadline, if needed.
  7. Maybe Barnes, but he's not getting a lot and shows some promise for 2023. If we reset, we'll have about $67M to spend, which seems like a reasonable amount to find a SS, RF, SP, RP and P. That's about $13M per slot, not counting any trades we could make. I'm not saying it can't be done, but I'd feel a lot better, if we had $85-100M on the winter spending budget. A lot depends on whether we are ready to trade a top prospect or two to get real in 2023. I'm torn on that idea, but if we get a guy with many years of team control, or we lock him up at a reasonable cost, now is as good a time as any.
  8. It's hit or miss on many of these second and third tier RP'ers. The 2021 Brad Hand was no steal. Robertson is 37 and went through a very rough patch from 2019-2021. It's hard to fault a GM for not taking a chance on him. Bloom did hit on Schreiber and Strahm- maybe even Kelly. It's hard to fo 6 for 6 on RP'er additions, even when spending big on the pen- something Bloom has yet to do.
  9. $65-70M to spend: SS RF SP1 RP1 RP4 SP/RP (depending on where Whitlock is slotted) At minimum, 5 slots to fill. This is assuming a likely decline at Catcher and DH and maybe a SP'er slot we fill with someone other than Bello. Yes, "payroll issues."
  10. Their fixed winter spending budget and too many slots to fill.
  11. The thing is, every major signing this winter may be followed by us saying, "I would not have paid that much for _____"
  12. Agreed, even if just for the optics. Had they countered with $320M/11, would Mookie have accepted?
  13. Our best OPS+ players in 2021 were... 134 Devers 3B 129 Bogey SS 128 JD DH 114 Renfroe RF 108 Kike CF 107 Dalbec 1B 107 Dugo LF 103 Arroyo 2B 77 Vazquez C As it turned out, our 2022 corner OF'ers, 1Bmen and DH all declined significantly, but at the time, DH, LF and 1B did not look like our highest need area- 2B and maybe catcher did, aside from pitching. 2022 143 Refsnyder RF (only 177 PAs) 142 McGuire C (108 PAs) + 109 Vaz 141 Devers 3B 131 Bogey SS 117 JD DH 102 Story 2B + 103 Arroyo 102 Dugo LF 80 Dalbec 1B 75 Kike CF 60 JBJ RF 92 Cordero 1B/LF 86 Pham LF 78 Duran OF Clearly, in hindsight, we could have used a LF/1Bman and future DH, too. We did need help at 2B, too.
  14. Somewhere, someone is thinking Bloom let Diaz get away.
  15. Only Clemson is away. TN, OSU and USC are at home.
  16. It's still a shot in the dark, but seems reasonable. I do think your team tries to improve, this winter, within reason.
  17. If we beat Navy & BC and lose to USC, we'll still get a skanky bowl offer.
  18. Tim Anderson off the boards (CWS pick up $12.5M option.) Bassitt decline mutual option. Mets pick up Vogelbach's $1.5M option. Twins pick up Sonny Gray's $12.7M option. Nats decline mutual option on Nelson Cruz.
  19. No way would I have wanted Bloom to pay that or more.
  20. Nothing too outlandish.
  21. Again, Bloom asleep at the wheel!
  22. The Beni & Renfroe trades surprised me. Trading Devers alone would surprise me- both Devers & Dugo, even more.
  23. I think that is the idea, and we have already started. Like the Astros, we have a GM from the Rays' organization. Unlike the Astros, Bloom was not handed the farm and 40 man roster depth Click was handed with Houston, so he has spent much of his efforts on building up the farm and roster depth to near the foundation needed to begin the final steps of building a consistently competitive team. It's hard to know, if he's done the job needed, but we should find out, soon.
  24. The INT and return was the nail in the coffin. It was also predictable, as Clemson was desperate and had to force throws down by so much.
  25. No, it would not surprise me, but it doesn't mean I stop counting on them as our FT'ers, right now. The odds are against either being traded, this winter.
