  1. Hard to know. Bogey on 6 vs Devers for 10 means they both end their contracts at the same age, but the 4 years extra Devers gets are all prime years. I'd put the money on Devers. He may take $28M x 10 or $27M x 11 or 12.
  2. I'm not going to lose an ounce of sleep over a trade like this. I never heard of either of these guys. Stay positive..
  3. Word is, we will flip him & Duran to the Ms for Winker.
  4. Hoy, Hoy, Hoy! Happy Thanksgiving! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/11/red-sox-acquire-hoy-park.html
  5. Hopeful, yes, but the guy was in serious decline before he had a brief hot streak in 2020. Expecting even .700 was a dream.
  6. It's the kind of deal teams make all the time. There is a good chance he barely moves the needle, but I felt the same way when we claimed Schreiber of waivers and when we signed Strahm.
  7. Exactly. If this guy was worse than the players we are about to DFA or trade to make room for more additions, then it would be a head-scratcher. I don't recall anyone being happy with the Strahm signing or the Schreiber claim, at the time.
  8. But, you knew that was a long shot, right? (We all "hoped.")
  9. I've been one of Blooms biggest supporters, but that trade was awful from day one. This isn't hindsight positions, either, I hated the deal from the start. The money part was the worst, as we were walking the tax line, at the time. I said it then, the deal would only work, if one of the prospects came through. That may still happen, but I'm not holding my breath. If it was about the defense, we could have just moved Dugo to RF and parked Renfroe in LF, but this whole false hope that JBJ would return to form was misplaced, and this is from a Sox fan who had JBJ as his favorite player since he was called up. One thing many of the Bloom bashers never bring up is the Renfroe signing, to begin with. IMO, it was made with the savings from the Beni trade- another trade Bloom was and still is being bashed over.
  10. Some high potential guys just never put it together. I'm done with DHern. I'm not saying this guy is the answer, but I'd rather he be given a shot than DHern or Brasier.
  11. If this means Brasier or DHern are finally shown the door, I'm fine with this signing. Maybe, he'll be the next Strahm.
  12. I know there were some posters who mentioned the idea that he could be non-tendered, but I don't recall anyone saying he should or will be. Several felt it a good idea to trade him, but nobody liked the JBJ trade, except maybe Kimmi.
  13. True, and we all know the defense is why we traded him- not the money.
  14. Renfroe had 2 arb years left when we traded him. How would it make sense to overpay him for 2 years? Also, who were the people saying Renfroe was not worth the $7M arb? I don't recall any. I do remember people saying we need to subtract that $7.6M from JBJ's money, but I don't remember anyone saying he wasnt worth $7M.
  15. The only way anyone takes Yelich is with a major chunk of change and or a solid SP attached.
  16. Does that make for 5 dumb GMs for acquiring him or letting him go?
  17. We'd be lucky to get Urquidy or Neris... not both. Dugo is no slouch.
  18. It got me thinking maybe even Dugo for Urquidy & Neris.
  19. Very true, and this is also a glaring example on what some GMs value in their catchers. Contreras is viewed as a major FA catching option, and yet he would have been the back-up to Maldonado and his .586 OPS since 2021, as was Vaz after he was traded for.
  20. Word was that the higher ups asked Dusty about the trade, and he felt there would be clubhouse issues over Contreras taking a back-up role to Maldanado. I'm not sure why that would sour Crane against Click, but that's the word, here.
  21. You play too much fantasy sports.
  22. Apparently, it was the nixed Contreras trade that ruffled feathers.
  23. Not unless you have one.
  24. I just can't even think about wanting to believe, anymore.
  25. I could be wrong, but I think the Astros went from late April to late August and for part of September with a 6 man rotation. Verlander, Valdez, Garcia, Odorizzi, Javier & Urquidy. When they traded Odorizzi, McCullers returned from injury to take the 6th slot. I think Odorizzi missed a few starts in the middle, and they went with 5 for a stretch, but then later Hunter Brown got a couple starts that made a 7 man rotation for 2 cycles in September. Looking at the GS numbers, Valdez had 31, which you can't get on a true 6 man rotation for a big chunk of the season, so maybe I'm wrong, 31 Valdez 28 Verlander 28 Urquidy 28 Garcia 25 Javier 12 Odorizzi 8 McCullers 2 Brown Javier was in the pen for 5 games, but everyone else, except Brown were pretty much starters. I think Ordorizzi & McCullers were the only guys missing time with injury. You'd expect 32-33 starts from Valdez, Verlander, Garcia and Urquidy had there been a strict 5 man all year.
