  1. I did mention INT'L money a while ago, and corrected myself. This time, I meant draft slot bonus money, that you just posted about. That $1M might mean more than the slot pick differentials.
  2. Well, I'm not sure Segura could play SS, either, and while Iggy is better than EV, I'd rather have him at 2B than SS, too. Just make the trade for Rojas and turn the attention to finding a real RF'er and maybe one more solid pitcher.
  3. Agreed, and don't wait for the deadline, either.
  4. 5 years is "short," except when we bring up the idea of a 5 year plan, I guess. 2018 Youngsters: 22 Devers (called up mid '17) 24 Beni (had 4 yrs of control left, after '18 and barely matched his '18 numbers, again) 24 T-W Lin 25 Sam Travis 25 Beeks (traded away by DD for 2 months of Nate) 25 ERod (nobody is talking about letting him walk. I wonder why.) 26 Poyner 26 Betts (had 2 yrs of team control remaining after '18) 26 Bogey (was extended with an opt out) 26 Swihart If three or four means "loaded," then yes, we were. Were we "loaded" with young stars (26 or under)when Bloom took over after 2019? (I don't expect an answer.)
  5. I think the issue with Andrus is he probably wants 3 years, and we are looking for a 1 year placeholder. That might be a guy like Iggy, but defensively, he's not the same Iggy. Signing Iggy might mean the best defensive alignment would be Iggy at 2B and Story at SS. Miguel Rojas is clearly on the trading block. He was before they signed Segura to play 2B and move Chisholm to SS. We could probably get him for Duran & Murphy or better yet, Duran and Dalbec.
  6. No love for Santa... errr...I mean Santos?
  7. For signing drafted players. Someone said we get $1M less.
  8. Who was it that wrecked his finger on a screen door?
  9. We might not have tried to stay under, this year, had we stayed under, last year, but certainly staying under 2 years in a row is something we've done before and might have done, this winter too. Staying under, this year would have improved our comp picks and bonus money, plus any returns we got on the trades.
  10. Some sites say it was by more than $4M, but I think just trading JD would have gotten us under. I was all on board for trading everything not nailed down. We'd be much better positioned, right now, financially, farm strength, upcoming draft, and maybe even have a plyer or two in return ready to help in 2023. Big mistake- and this in not Monday morning QB'ing on my behalf.
  11. Okay, we have 10-12 MLB ready prospects and 2-3 that just graduated (Bello, Crawford, Wong & Wink.) BAL does have a much better farm than ours, but they also lost their "clubhouse leader" in Mancini and a key pen arm- I forget his name.
  12. I guess they don't view Enmanuel Valdez as the LHB IF'er.
  13. Although BTV has Arroyo with negative value, I think we could get a non 40 man roster prospect for him. I like the trade suggested. I'd rather see us trade Duran, Murphy, Bonaci and Dalbec for Rojas and Berti. (or, Duran, Jordan and Murphy.) I guess Berti is not a very good defensive RF'er, but he gets on base, a lot and can play the IF, so Arroyo could be traded... perhaps in this trade, if MIA wants him.
  14. I think Duran is grossly over-valued on BTV. I'd gladly do that trade and then Murphy for Michael A Taylor. I'd even give Duran and Murphy for 1 year of Rojas. i know Duran still has promise, but I'm pretty much done hoping for him to break out.
  15. It would have in '22, because Dalbec sucked and they could have player Schwarber there. My point wasn't about it being right or wrong- just that the arguments were similar- finding playing time for 3 guys at 2 positions.
  16. I think someone offered to pay the whole remaining salary. He should have taken that for a low A ball player. To me, this was a blunder, but I understand why others think otherwise, and some reasons why they said no, assuming the report was true.
  17. Segura signs for $17M/2 with Marlins. I wonder if that Wendle trade with the Sox just became more likely. Chisholm is expected to be moved to SS, so it looks like Rojas might be a trade candidate. I'd rather get Rojas for a year than Wendle. Also, the Braves get Luetge from Yanks for 2 minor leaguers.
  18. Assuming no more additions, despite having about $28M to spend and be under the tax line, here might be our opening day 26 man roster: 1. L Yoshida LF 2. R Story SS 3. L Devers 3B 4. R Turner DH 5. L Casas 1B 6. R Kike CF 7. L Verdugo RF 8. R Arroyo 2B 9. L McGuire C Bench: R Wong C R Refsnyder OF L E Valdez 2B L Duran LF or R Dalbec 1B/3B SP1 Sale SP2 Kluber SP3 Whitlock SP4 Bello SP5 Pivetta SP6 Paxton RP1 Jansen RP2 Martin RP3 Houck RP4 Schreiber RP5 Barnes RP6 Joely RP7 Mills RP8 Crawford or Brasier Farm Depth/ ML ready C R Hernandez (not on 40) 1B Crook (not on 40) 2B Hamilton SS Goodrum (not on 40) 3B Koss (not on 40) LF Duran CF Rafaela (SS) RF Abreu DH Grandberg (not on 40) P Taylor, Mata, Crawford, Walter, Winckowski, Murphy, Seabold, Kelly, German, Ort, DHern (not on 40) Santos, Feltman, Shugart, Thompson, Drohan, Fernandez
  19. 10 people convicted of trying to kill Big Papi. This was that incident back in 2019. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/10-convicted-2019-david-ortiz-attempted-killing_n_63acc85ee4b0fe267ca65937
  20. None are for longer than 2 years, so they can be viewed as bridges to some younger players or bridges to the next bridges. Some may end up being traded for prospects at the deadline, if we end up doing as poorly as many seem to think we will do.
  21. What has BAL done to get better?
  22. Correct. That's a tight squeeze but doable.
  23. BTV and SSs Value 9.6 A Rosario (1 yr) 5.9 M Rojas (1 yr) 3.2 J Mateo (3 yrs) Sox 8.7 Romero 8.0 Yorke 6.7 Dugo 6.5 Anthony & Coffey 5.9 Duran 5.6 Lugo & Walter 5.0 Jordan & Paulino 3.7 Mata & Murphy 2.8 Seabold & McDonough 2.6 Wink & Bonaci 2.4 Hamilton & Taylor 2.1 Jimenez & Abreu
