  1. Kike has barely played a half season in innings at SS over his 9 year career. Here are his defensive metrics by position: DRS in innings/ UZR/150 SS: + 9 in 618/+12.3 2B: +18 in 1717/ -5.3 CF: +21 in 2494/+7.8 LF: +15 in 603/+18.0 RF: +3 in 343/+11.9 Maybe he'll do a great job at SS for us. I'm still questioning the idea, but it looks like the plan.
  2. DH and Turner will be on the bench... LOL! (Don't tell notin, this!) Seriously, though, haven't you heard, Dugo will be traded. Book it.
  3. Josh Harrison is being mentioned as a possible Sox addition. He's had some mixed defensive metrics over the last 2 years at 2B, but over his career is at +26 DRS in almost 5000 innings at 2B. He has a -0.7 UZR/150 (-4.4 from 20-21-2022). Gotta like the .343 OBP over his last 650 PAs (2021-2022.)
  4. Rusney Castillo cost us over $70M and Moncada's fee and 100% tax cost us a ton, too, but they were both younger than Yoshida and Dice-K. I get why they consider them "prospects," and they did not play MLB, so that's why they call them that.
  5. They listed Dice-K as a prospects, way back when, too.
  6. I think we see Mayer, this year, too. I do think it's a bit too early to say he is a foundational player, but he sure has that promise.
  7. I'm surprised we didn't add another LF'er.
  8. No. I got the point. I thought we were okay at 1B with a returning Dalbec and his .800+ OPS and Casas near ML ready on the farm. I did not like our RF situation, and did feel like we needed depth there, but Arroyo was an after thought, and Refsnyder was a shocking surprise. We did not have the funds to fill all the open slots, especially depth slots, and I was happy we finally went for some quality over quantity with the Story signing, although I did "scratch my head" over the position choice, at the time. I've never claimed Bloom made all good choices, despite what a certain poster likes to believe. I hated the JBJ deal from day one- even before we got him back. You don't have to ask me how that worked out. It worked like I expected it to work.
  9. Except Bogey.
  10. I still think this team is significantly better than 2022's team, even with Story out, all year, but better than last place does not mean greatness. We need a lot to go right to be a fun year, but we have so many legitimate hopefuls than we don't need all of them to happen, to have a nice season. Nice being making the playoffs.
  11. All of them, and for good reason. Year 1, he had 15-20 open slots on the 40 and a buck-fifty to spend. Year 2, he had 10-14 open slots on the 40 and two-fifty to spend. Year 3, he had 8-12 open slots and filled 6 of them, and even then, he had to spread the wealth, except for the Story signing. This year was supposed to be different. He had about 8 slots to fill and $90M to spend. I'm actually happy with our 40 man roster depth, now. I was so happy with it, I expected this winter to be more about quality than quantity and a focus on filling our higher need areas and not LF and DH, but I'm the Bloom Brown Noser, so what do I know..
  12. That's the other way to clear a roster spot.
  13. Forget about who is most likely to be DFA'd. Who do you honestly feel are the worst 3 players on our 40, or what 3 players would you most want to be gone? To me, Brasier and Duran are in the discussion, and both are not WOO guys, per se. They are high up on the depth chart and may play key roles on the opening day roster, if not more additions are made. Dalbec maybe in the bottom 5. Certainly Ort is. Mills, too.
  14. Many times, yes, but when you go through 50-60 players in a season, those #38-40 players often get a chance to "back-up" a back-up.
  15. I'd DFA Ort, but after that, it becomes a bit tougher- not that Mills is someone I'd be pissed off over a DFA. There are a few players with trade value, like Duran, Dalbec and even guys like Murphy, who I think a 2 for 1 type deal could be made. I think all 3 are better than many team's #40, so they could DFA their #40 to make room for a 2 for 1 trade. Yes, I said Brasier being DFA's "is not going to happen," but he's still #2 on my list.
  16. He didn't sign a ML contract, did he?
  17. I could say something about the color brown and a facial feature.
  18. If you're good at SS, like Kike appears to be, who wouldn't want to play there? It would also greatly improve his payday, next winter, if he has a solid year at SS.
  19. I don't think Dugo will be traded either, but not because teams don't want him. BTW, suggesting a trade for Mateo is not saying Dugo is great. BTV has Mateo as worth about half of Dugo, and I don't see team lining up for him, either. I just want an everyday SS who can field well. If it keeps Kike in CF, IMO, we'll be a better team. That's why I bring it up, even if the odds are very low it happens.
  20. It's 100% certain. Even if it's a sure thing Kike will play SS or 2B, there is no way we start the season with a middle IF of: On 40 Man: Kike Arroyo EValdez Dalbec (LOL) Rafaela (likely not ML ready on opening day) Hamilton (likely not ML ready on opening day) Not on 40: Niko Goodrum Christian Koss Ryan Fitzgerald If we do, I'll leapfrog Red as leader of the Bloom Basher Club.
  21. Yes, LOL. Corrected.
  22. Trade Duran for Madrigal and Dugo for Mateo. CF: Kike RF: Duvall SS: Mateo 2B: Madrigal
  23. No one move or issue usually makes or breaks a season, but when a choice is still to be made, it's fair to talk about which move would better position the team for a run at the playoffs or a miracle in some fans' eyes. To me, the team is much better with Kike in CF, Duval in RF and 2 added middle IF'er. After this Duvall signing, I seriously doubt it happens, but I do think the team would be better. That's the type of thing I like to discuss. You can keep talking about rising ticket prices, how little the 40th man matters and whatever floats your boat, but many times, the culmination of many of the small moves is what ends up making or breaking a team's chances. Take last year, for example, some posters were irate over Bloom not having added depth at 1B, RF and the pen. Well, those type of moves are, many times, the 38th, 39th and 40th men on the roster added late in the winter.
  24. We have to add a middle IF'er. 100% certainty.
  25. I just hope when it's all said and done, Kike is in CF. To me, that is most important when deciding who to add. Right now, that would mean Duvall would be in RF, and I think That's a big plus over Dugo, especially on D. I doubt this happens, though. Kike will likely play SS or 2B, depending on our next addition. In terms of who goes to make room for Duvall and then the middle IF'er we are sure to add, I'm still holding out hope we can make some sort of 2 for 1 deal, perhaps involving Dugo and or Dalbec. My current DFA list: 1. Ort 2. Brasier (not going to happen) 3. Taylor, but only if the docs say he will not return to previous form 4. It would be Duran, if we weren't so short in depth in the OF. 5. Mills? Wink? It wasn't that long ago the players listed 3rd, 4th and 5th were not considered "keepers" to any extent. Now, I kinda like Taylor, Wink and Mills.
