I’m really liking what I see from McGuire. He looks like a keeper.
To think we dumped Diekman and his salary for him makes the move look even better.
Tapia is certainly making a strong case to make the team. It’s nice so many bubble players have options.
Too bad Alfaro’s catching skills are reportedly bad.
Chang looks to be the IF bench guy.
Dalbec is hitting well, but usually has poor Aprils and Mays, so he could be tge odd man out.
With so many pitchers rehabbing, it’s hard to project the 13.
I do think playing him in LF a few games makes more sense than SS, but if we ever need him at SS in an emergency, it gods he got one game in.
(If he does end up at SS, we may wish he played more.)
Agreed.
I do worry about Sale overthrowing out of sheer competitiveness, so maybe opening day might add to that possibility.
I don’t see starting game 2 as a big deal, though, and he may face easier starters for the first few starts.
I believe since 2020, but certainly 2021 and 2022.
I remember there being a debate after Cora stated he would not platoon Dugo.
I’m not sure a full platoon is needed, and we had nobody, early last season, but vs tough lefties, I think he should sit.
Career OPS:
Tapia
.709
.684 v LHP
Refsnyder
.676
.728 v LHP
It seems we have 3-4 OFers who do well v LHPs and better vs LHPs than RHPs, so Ref looks like the better choice.
I do recall a couple posters roasting Bloom for neglecting the need for a RH’d hitting OFer, last year.
Ref did have a .784 OPS v lefties in 2021, so maybe 2022 was not such a fluke.
I’m cautiously optimistic and think he earned a long look for 2023. I like Tapia, too, but STing numbers should not be enough to displace Ref, IMO.
Starting Dalbec in AAA is easy. It’s the 40 man slot that is more of an issue, although it seems like it’s not that hard. Ort, Ort, Ort seems to be the easy choice, but it never seems to happen.
There is also the Alfaro situation.
Maybe some one goes on the 60 to make room.
Not you.
If Dalbec might be forced to play SS, again this year, playing him one game in STing is not something to read too much into. (Not that you are, personally.)
Koss has no chance to make the 26. This isn’t about winning a STing game. It’s about seeing if Bobby Dee might be an emergency, 1 game or partial game back up at SS.
