  1. Sogard. That's a good one! Back to small sample sizes when it suits you, I see.
  2. You and Ole Red make a nice couple. Have you two set a date, yet?
  3. Brez probably could have traded Story, last winter, while paying a modest sum, Now, he'd need to pay the whole amount or close to it. Brez could have traded Duran after 2024. Many of us called for it, then and after 2025. Ultimately, a GM has to be a fortune teller to avoid criticism, and Brez missed on those two. It matters not if he hit on more than he missed, according to many here.
  4. If we do buy, buying Bichette would get me into the fire Brez camp.
  5. No, none are better hitters, especially vs RHPs. I would not mind Romy as the FT DH (v R and L) but Masa is better than the others, and we need Duran in LF and Monasterio at SS. We might also want Romy at 2B vs RHP or LHP, if Seigler ever comes back to earth.
  6. We all make mistakes. Just a few claim to never make them.
  7. I didnt say "want." I said he could maybe pitch 85 more.
  8. We can win a playoff series or two, because the team we will be playing has as many holes as we do. We have one advantage: one of the best 1-2-3 SP'ers and 1-2 RP'ers. (I'm still for selling, though.)
  9. He's on the IL, but of course you never make mistaken points. LOL.
  10. Of course Anthony is not Judge, but would the Sox be under .500 without their major injuries? Why make that distinction for the Yanks and not the Sox?
  11. Team Positional fWAR Rankings 4th 1B (27th in '25 and 24th '21-'24) Vastly improved 5th CF (1st in '25 & 16th '21-'24) About the same as '25/vastly improved beforehand 9th 3B (7th in '25 and 6th '21-'24) About the same in both. 9th RF (6th in '25 and 11th '21-'24) About the same in both 17th LF (3rd in '25 and 15th '21-'24) Worse than '25/about he same as beforehand 19th C (20th in '25 and 21st '21-'24) About the same in both 20th 2B (23rd in '25 and 26th '21-'24) A little better in both 29th SS (18th in '25 and 14th '21-'24) Much worse than '25/ about the same as beforehand It's hard to blame anyone for the LF decline as we headed into 2026 with Duran/Anthony there. 1B has been a big improvement, and 2B has been a slight improvement. SS has been a big minus from '25.
  12. According to fangraphs, we have the following players ranked as such on defense: Catcher: Narvaez 8th, but 0 DRS (middle of the pack) 1B: Contreras 14th in DRS (+1) and 0 OAA (middle of pack) 2B: Mayer 15th in DRS (+2) not bad for so few innings. IKF is 11th in OAA! SS: IKF is 14th at +1 and 20th in OAA at +1. (tiny SS) 3B: Durbin is tied with Breggie at +10 DRS and tied at #4 in OAA (+4) LF: Duran +6 is T4th. and T2nd in OAA +5 CF: Rafaela started slow but is now 2nd in DRS (+15)/3rd OAA +11 (behind different players in both) RF: Abreu +16 is more than the #2 and #3 combined! 2nd in OAA at +6 As a team DRS/OAA: #1/2 RF #2/3 CF #2/4 3B #3/6 LF (seems worse than this) __________________________ 9/7 2B (a vast improvement over years past) 9/16 1B (seems better than this) 17 (14th in fangraph D rating) Catcher _________________________ 29/23 SS (Yes, Story has slipped that far!)
  13. I'd rather we pick a lane and go for it than just trade mid level prospects for a rental RHB and a RP'er or two. Right now, I'd say sell every FA to be and others not part of the 2027 and/or beyond plan (maybe Duran or even Whitlock..)
  14. Good point. I will say that Bennett only had 39 IP in the minors and has 48 in he bigs. He might have 13-14 more starts to go. I think he can give us 5 IP x 13 more. (85+87=172.) Tolle will have to be given a break beyond the ASB or be on a strict pitch count the remainder of the season. If Early returns, he might, too. The pen will be over-taxed. We may need a couple pen games to give an extra day's rest. The Sox have more games to play than others due to postponed games. There is a doubleheader coming up in the middle of a long stretch of games without a day off. Tracy will need to be a magician, unless Crochet returns or Bello gets his act together, and this assumes Suarez is okay. BTW, Ranger has never gone more than 158 IP in a season. Taking all this into account, selling makes more sense than buying.
  15. Yes, I did not agree with all the points this guy was making, and having a highly competitive team that is fun to watch just about every year is also a worthy goal- not just rings every 5-7 years. (BTW, this is year 8.)
  16. I'm not a big fan of Yoshida, but consider this when saying "Cut him loose!" Only 3 Sox players have a higher OPS AND more PAs than he does. .921 Contreras (suspended) .767 Ceddanne .751 Abreu .688 Yoshida .684 Durbin .622 Duran (3rd in PAs!) .594 Mayer Yoshida ranks 4th in OPS among all 10 Sox players with more than 132 PAs. (IKF is at .705 with 132 PAs and is on the IL.) We simply have nobody better to DH, at least vs RHPs. Last 28 days, Yoshida (.807) is above Abreu (.759) and even Seigler (.790.) but not Romy (.892) Wong (.931) Durnin (.888) and of course Willson at .983. I'm still not a big fan, but for now, he's a keeper.
  17. What happened to recent sample sizes? You were on a tear with them for a while.
  18. Sandoval had about a 1.5 season stretch where he looked like a top 30 SP'er. (Maybe top 40.) There is no way to know, if he can return to that level, but we've rolled the dice on everyone from Richards to Kluber to Paxton to Hendriks to some I can't even remember, and we are due for "seven."
  19. Why not? Every summer, RP'ers like him are dealt. He has a .646 OPS Against, which is better than Sonny Gray's. He won't net anything real special, but why not get a something?
  20. Kicking in money for Gray, and we can count it as ATL paying it, might not make much of a difference to teams like LAD or SDP, but it might entice a lower budget team to do something they'd never have dreamed of, since they have been out of the playoffs for 9 of the last 10 deadlines- trade for an ace. To me, expanding the number of bidding teams will increase the chances some team grossly overpays for Gray. Hell, someone might even overpay for Sandoval (with cash paid), if he keeps looking like the same guy as 4-5 years ago. Someone might even kick the tires on Bello, if we add some cash for him, too. Same for Chapman and his contract.
  21. It's what he didn't do. He didn't have to deal with Devers, and he didn't have to deal with a roster without Romy and Seigler.
  22. So Judge being hurt counts but 5 of our top 10 pitchers and Anthony out is immaterial.
