  1. Crawford for Paredes works on BTV, but in reality, not. Bello's AAC is almost the same as Paredes, so maybe that will be the deal, but I think we should get King, Sousa or Janek added.
  2. Catching prospect Nate Baez is headed to Boston in exchange for Gray’s services,
  3. As much as I hate the idea of Rafaela at 2B not CF, I'd prefer him there and Anthony in CF/Duran in LF than Duran at 2B. (Duran in CF & Rafaela at 2B is a better idea, too.) Rafaela's bat is easier to tolerate, when he's playing GG CF, though. We'd need him to improve his offense, although if the comp is Ceddanne vs DHam, then CR is an upgrade on offense at 2B.
  4. Exactly. The window could slam shut at any moment with some sort of issue with Crochet. On the surface, it looks to be a 3-4 year window, and when you look at the years of control of our next 10-15 best players, most fir the 3-4 or more year timeframe. Adding top quality, this winter was essential. We did add some quality, of which some looks to be "top" or near "top quality." I was hoping for 2 of the best of the best (Alonso or Schwarber and KMarte or Bregman,) but we added 3 instead: Suarez, S Gray & Contreras. If we can add Paredes without hurting another area on the 26, we might be close enough to the point of top contention you speak of.
  5. Congrats to Indiana U. Worst to first!
  6. If we can add Paredes and keep Duran and Bello, I'd say we are close enough to be even with TOR and NYY and a top 5 team in MLB. I'm not sure that can be done, unless some third team gets pulled in, and we part with a top 5 prospect or two from #3-10. I've heard down here that HOU really wants Abreu back.
  7. So much for Gray winning the 26th slot.
  8. It's never bad to add more good pitchers, but that is not really a high need area. The Astros have Paredes (huge need) and two decent LH'd RP'ers (King & Sousa)- another high need area. Some think we need catcher depth, and the Astros have a great catcher, who they will not trade, but they have a good catcher prospect in Janek. They also have a RH'd RP'er in Abreu on his last arb year at $5.8M. HOU may be looking to get under the tax line, so Paredes for Duran saves them $1.5M and Abreu makes it $7.3M saved. (King & Sousa are pre-arb.) Duran for Paredes, Abreu and one from King, Sousa or Jankek? I think that gets HOU under the tax line and the star OF'er they seek. We add some offense and fill our infield need. We lose a year, as Duran has 3, while Paredes 2, but add Abreu's one year and it's even before looking at the third piece. If HOU is interested, we could add DHam, Sogard, Eaton or maybe even Sandlin or Mullins types, but it looks like we are already overpaying, so maybe not.
  9. Well said. These locked up players have higher AAVs than salaries, right now, but later on, they may look like bargains for tax purposes. For years and years one of the biggest beefs Sox fans had was watching our young stars bolt as the reached prime. Now, we did something about it, and I keep hearing "same ole- same ole," when maybe it's not.
  10. Duran for Paredes, B King & Janek might still be a Sox overpay, but I'd probably say yes. Duran & Hicks for Paredes might give us some budget space to sign a decent RP'er or two.
  11. Probably right on TOR, but TOR is up on us by 2.4. Paredes is 2.3. The Yanks are up 1.9 and may add someone else, if they miss out on Bellinger. (Word is they are shopping Chisholm 3.5, so...)
  12. Agreed, but HOU is not in rebuild mode, so maybe a third team needs to be involved. We'd still have our OF & DH logjam, but Duran's bat would still be here. I'm not sure who that 3rd team is who gets our prospects and gives HOU an OF'er or SP. If HOU took K Campbell for Paredes it would not upset the line-up, but might bite us in the butt, later on.
  13. I'm pretty sure the Yanks will add a big plus player, too, and one never knows with TOR.
  14. Once again, you make a good point. Going by projections for just 2026 (not the 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years more...) 2026 3.9 Gray 3.3 Suarez 1.9 Contreras 1.2 Oviedo Total: 10.3 Subtract Oviedo, because we'd have probably done that anyway: 9.1 ___________________ 4.0 Bregman 2.6 Alonso Total 6.6 ____________________ 4.0 Bregman 3.1 Schwarber Total: 7.1 ______________________ I'm not claiming I like what we did more than Alonso or Schwarber plus Bregman, but we spent a lot of AAV (over less years) and seemingly got a lot more 2026 value the way we've gone, so far. If we can trade for Paredes (2.3) but it will mean we trade away some projected value in return. Now, for once, we got someone else to pay down a contract (Gray,) but here is the AAV breakdown: 26 Suarez + 21 Gray + 21 Contreras= 68 vs 31 Alonso + 31 Bregman= 62
  15. Spo has $4.1M for pre-arb
  16. But why keep 6 OF'ers?
  17. 8 years left on his deal, and he's half way to 34, now. YIKES! BTV has him at -118, but his value is +180. BTV accepted Yoshida, Hicks, Sandoval for Machado & $70M
  18. Yes, I can't see there being a reason to move him to 2B, despite our enormous need there.
  19. I don't see Campbell at 2B in 2026. I think they want to see how he looks in LF, but unless we trade someone, KC will be blocked by not 3 but 4 OF'ers. We won't have KC riding the bench, so it's a near FT role on the big club or see how he looks in AAA. If we add no infielder, this could be the infield: 1B: Contreras FT 2B: Romy/DHam v R/ Romy v L 3B: Mayer FT SS: Story FT
  20. SPOTRAC has our tax number at $276M. $284M Line 3 (2nd surcharge) $304M Line4 (3rd surcharge) We may try to keep around $3-8M for deadline or in season deals, although we've been shedding more salary in season than adding it, lately (thanks to Devers.) There has been some talk of trading some of these players (listed by current AAV tax hit to the Sox.) $18M Yoshida $10.3M Hicks $9.2M Bello $9.1 Sandoval $7.8 Duran $7.5M Campbell $6.3M Rafaela $4.1M Houck $2.8M Crawford $1.6M Casas
  21. The .313 OBP from 2023 to 2025 is very concerning, as i was .334 before 2023. I'm okay with Ks, if a guy can produce, but I'm not sure all the extra base hits make up for the low OBP. I'm big on OBP, although it seems to be losing steam. That being said, Suarez would not have the worst OBP on the team. That's not a prop. Story .308, Rafaela .295, Narvaez .306 & Toro .289 all were worse than ES's 3 year number. Abreu .317 & Campbell .319 were close. I'd much rather have Paredes, but trading Duran or Bello to get him kinda cancels out that gain over Suarez. I'm not going to project what the spending budget is, and if we trade some salary, maybe ES can fit. Wo else, besides Paredes gives us some power we need? If we can keep Duran and add Paredes power, I'd be pretty happy.
  22. He did play in college and a few games in the minors, but I'd give it a big NO!
  23. I might add DHam or Mullins, if that tips the balance...maybe Sandlin.
